Huh, I'd always thought Guy's name was pronounced geee, like it was french. Looking at the scan, I see his name is simply guy, or "Gai" as spelled in Japanese.

Tsubaki is not a character where you charge cancel for pressure or to bait anything, Tsubaki is a character where you charge cancel so you won't get punished as hard for doing anything more than 5A > 2A on block. That's one reason why she's consistently chilling with Rachel in all the current Japanese rankings, and unlike Rachel I don't see potential for her to get much better with that particularly crippling flaw. Other flaws: No range. Big example is her 5BB, 5B is the wing poke with okay range (and crap priority as far as I can tell)... the followup has her step forward and do a weird upward swing, and despite the step being pretty big, the move whiffs if you are more than like a character-width away from them. 5A is like Noel's 5A in terms of range but without blockstun or any real threat behind it, 2B has no range (at least the followup doesn't whiff randomly), 5C has NO range (followup has okay range but doesn't combo on block, another free DP point), 2C has even less than no range. 3C looks like it has range until you realize the hitbox is terrible and it's even worse than Noel's sweep on block/whiff... optional followup is terrible, too. jA and jB have very little range, jB is like Noel jB except with crap hitbox/priority. jC has okay range and is an okay jump-in, I guess. Specials have range but are all horribly unsafe on block, plus you can't chain them on block. DP trades a lot and every trade is in your opponent's favor. By a lot. Oki is weak, you can't pressure them safely so you have to go for 1st-hit mixup all the time and she has a crappy no-range overhead (6A) with weak followups, a bunch of lows that are crappy for various reasons (2B, 3C, 6B), and... a throw that admitably leads to pretty good followups... with charge and meter. Only way I win matches against halfway competent scrubs (who I would beat like 9-1 with CT Noel on a bad night) is by turtling to like 2-3 charges and then hoping I land something into okay damage. I've won like four games total against good players using Tsubaki and at least 2 of those were lol fullscreen 236D gimmick wins. | ||
