Stutter step micro is the most boring form of micro ever. Well we see some micro opportunities with the siege tank. The projectile seems slow so theres opportunity to book it.

Day69's impression. So far it looks sad and pessimistic.

If that’s the case it’s looking like the game is leaning more towards WC3 than Starcraft. Not really my cup of tea but still a long way to go!

The graphics are fairly good at this stage, but I do feel an eyesore to mix WC3 terrain (mountain, grass and tree) with SC2/BW mech unit.

But yea, that bright forest texture that looks like it's out of Warcraft 3 does not mix at all with the sci fi combat they are going for. I'm hoping they have many more map designs planned.

It looks like several months are needed before gameplay testing makes sense, especially because we saw nothing about the other races. And that is what makes RTS actually interesting, having three distinct races, but balanced matches. What worries me is that nothing new or genre defining, nothing really different from all the previous RTS games, was shown. Wouldn't that be the point of such a presentation?

And for that I can say that early Alpha doesn't mean shit, because the game is probably going be VERY different on release then it is in early alpha footage. You go back and watch some of those early alpha SC2 videos that I was all hyped about in college and the game doesn't look anything like that now. Thankfully too. I remember packs early sc2 screenshots being dropped, but the graphics sure looked great at the time! There were also things like Siege tanks having BW powerlevel blasting everything, and the Mothership casting and all-consuming "black hole"...

That's probably because they're leaning more into WC3 than SC2. I'm sure I'll enjoy the campaign though, assuming there is one. yeah looks too slow to me as well. I'd prefer some more speed. The game looks like it'll be decent at least but from what I have seen I doubt it will be as good as sc2.

The primary resource "Luminite" seems to have an immediate fall off in efficiency, like 100% for the first worker, 95% for the second and the 13th worker isn't adding anything anymore. That would make worker harassment less impactful than in the Starcraft games.

Hopefully they will only improve, given time, as this is still in alpha.

I'm not certain I got this right because I read somewhere else that four workers mine it, but that kind of contradicts the tiberium mechanic. The primary resource "Luminite" seems to have an immediate fall off in efficiency, like 100% for the first worker, 95% for the second and the 13th worker isn't adding anything anymore. That would make worker harassment less impactful than in the Starcraft games. Crucially, that also would make expansions economically impactful even with low numbers of workers, which is a dynamic that Broodwar has and SC2 doesn't, and which I think is part of what makes Broodwar more interesting. In BW there is always an economic advantage to taking another base, because your workers mine more efficiently if they' spread across more bases, and the marginal benefit of each additional worker at a base is less than the previous worker. Those are interesting dynamics to me, and I am hopeful that the maps will be set up to encourage relatively high numbers of bases so that there is an incentive to take and hold territory, which in turn promotes lots of raiding and splitting of units into multiple armies. The idea of the second resource requiring map control to harvest is also interesting. My worry would be that if the secondary resource is as necessary as gas in SC, it could create really intense snowballs - imagine if losing map control immediately cut off your gas income in a StarCraft game. That would make establishing a light contain into a kill move. I can imagine ways to make that not so bad, though - maybe Therium is only required for teching and not for unit construction. Or maybe you can harvest it significantly faster than you spend it, so that occasionally sneaking out a harvest cycle is critical but hunkering down for a few minutes isn't crippling.

I agree that it feels to slow. Units seem to be very clunky like the Liberator in SC2. So the Engine is responsive, but the turn rate of the units is off. More SlowMotion-Time-Strategy than Real-Time-Strategy. I am old and slow, so I would benefit from a slower pace when playing it, but watching fast paced matches is more fun imo. This looks already better than Crossfire Legion, even though Crossfire is a good RTS, but it doenst have the player base and the continued support of the devs. But I want more, I want masterpiece level. I know it's high hopes, but do you want to play only a good game for the next 10 years? I am going to play it, but I don't know if I am going to love it... As of right now I feel meh. The two big questions are: 1. Will it be a hit? Only god knows. 2. Will it be a great game? Maybe, after years of polishing. So what is there to do? Wait...
