Rather, it looks like Sc2 with smaller armies and a little lower speed. Do you mean why they went for that decision or why we think it looks like WC3?

Honestly liked this version much more. The PC gamer one is cringe. Watch this one.

It's mostly the same but It showcases TLO and monk, which turns out are the "red" and "blue" players and they explain a little more. It also has extra gameplay at the begining. (Although later is the same gameplay of the other video, just with different commentary). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cq4M38TychE Honestly liked this version much more. I also like that we didn't see lots of weird casters being needed for the interactions to work - just some basic dashes, drops, lifts and sieging gave plenty to control.

And while saying that on tl.net is definitely a heresy, dumber pathing does not improve gameplay experience.

Now, I want to chug it off on pre-alpha state for now since iirc it was not exactly as smooth in SC2's battle reports as in actual SC2 either, but that's one thing I will definitely pay attention to. And while saying that on tl.net is definitely a heresy, dumber pathing does not improve gameplay experience. Well I personally thought the pathing looked pretty good with a lot less autoclumping of units, not behaving like a liquid. I'm sure they're still refining on the details of it but my model pathing from games I know would be WC3 (similar to BW, but more consistent/no bugs). Also thought the pace seems pretty good.

Almost everything of what has been presented until now, from the basic layout of the game and down right to the unit design, is a kind of hybrid of W3 and SC2, which is neat enough. But are there actually any new ideas regarding the gameplay or any interesting new units or any unheard-of abilities? What comes closest, perhaps, are the units being able to cut through the woods, but even these are reminiscent of the goblin lumberjacks and the general lumber mechanism in W3. Although StormGate is still in the pre-alpha stage, I feel like there should be more elements evoking a reaction to the effect of, "Wow, cool, haven't seen something like this before!" Even the earliest versions of SC2, if I remember correctly, introduced several important novelties over BW, for example, banelings, warp gate technology, queen, mule, and chronoboost mechanics, and so on.

I assume what we see at 15 seconds into the video is a normal view, and that what we see at 2:00 is zoomed in? And then for the final battle we can see that same base at normal view, like at 3:15. The zoomed in footage makes things feel so wrong and gave me a bad impression. TBH I don't think the gameplay is going to be that revolutionary. It's gonna be a unique mix of existing RTS elements with its own modernizations, but nothing that exciting. I think what could make this game so good is having a good engine, a good client, with a good monetization model. SC2 launched just before this free-to-play model really exploded. SC2 coop would've captured a ton of casual players if it had been there from the start, but instead most of the casuals fled SC2 pretty quickly for League of Legends, etc. So this game is a chance to have an RTS made in this BW/SC2/WC3 style (with its own little modernizations on top of those games), but with a modern client that has all the features needed to be able to compete with League, Dota, CS, etc. As long as the competitive gameplay isn't awful, and they're able to successfully implement all the client features and game modes that they're planning, that's all this game needs to be is a fresh start.

Eh, we only have like 6 units confirmed so there's still room to explore. Personally I wouldn't mind just a modern remix of the 2 kind of games.
