The fact weavers are the universally loved design would maybe tell them to lean more into the creepy/otherworldly aspect of infernal. That being said I also like the goofy look of imps and magmadon riders. I really think infernal designs are solid all round.

Vanguard are kinda meh, vulcans and exos are cool. Hedgehogs and Atlas look weird and toy-like (at least to me). The rest are just very basic, but they open up a ton of skin opportunities.

Celestial are all over the place. Kri and cabals look awesome. But then I agree Argents look like a pile of polygons and Vectors are just a triangle?

Overall I don't think the unit designs are bad or in dire need of updates like some seem to think. Improvements to the environment, lighting, and colours would make a huge difference. After all 90% of your screen when playing is the map and right now we have 2 basic tilesets

But you can't just look at one race or two and their units, it's the entire cohesive design overall.
That goes from creep all the way to campaign.
The campaign just shows how weird the entire game feels, you got a semi serious fairly bleak tone, then you also have brute, Bob that feel out of place.
Even neutral creeps are weirdly non cohesive in their design, you got units that are shadow, slime, ogre-like etc

I feel the only actually objectively good design is the Weaver. Magmadons and Kri are fine, not mindblowing. Everything else is strictly worse than units from all the other major RTS games I've played, heroes most of all.
It is what you read when you don't have to that determines what you will be when you can't help it.

How can matchmaking even work with those numbers? Like not all of them play 1v1, so even lower pool.

The nasty thing is that new players will even get more owned while figuring the game out.

As player numbers dwindle every RTS 1v1 ladder inevitably devolves into a shark tank.

Its all Lions , Tigers and Polar Bears. THere are no squirrels, raccoons, or chipmunks

That's what I love about SC2. I can quit playing for 6 months and come back and go 10 wins , 10 losses in my first 20 games back.

One week ago before uninstalling forever i played 10 games (like 30 games before with all races), 5 times vs the same opponent, 8 losses total. (Long time random sc2 player, but i ignored most SG specific things like the topbar most of the time)

RIP any new player without solid RTS knowledge, new player experience LOL

Next big banger will be the mostly negative recent review rating on the 13th (pretty tight, not ensured)

On the other hand the design is very much intended to be fantasy meets sci fi. It's like Warcraft x Starcraft. Clashing of different worlds etc

We don't know what the lore is behind the shadow demons, slimes, and scavengers (they all look cool individually), so it's hard to comment on it really. I do wish they eventually make the creeps match the maps, they don't have many tilesets yet so they can't do that. It makes sense to have scavengers on an earth desert map, and shadow demons on a demonic map etc. Map makers will do that if given the tools

I'll say the campaign characters are definitely far behind in terms of design. The brute looks insane and the human character models are not suitable for cinematics. But in terms of the multiplayer, the models across the board are mostly good, I like them.

I think this is where good Co-op modes and other PvE type content can help bridge the gap between a single player campaign experience and a hard core 1v1 competitive experience.

Hopefully, there will be co-op and PvE modes with only the 1v1 unit set so players can ramp up to competitive play.

I actually hate the Weavers personally. They look like they're a plastic dinosaur figurine that would topple over with a gentle breeze. Also Stormgate still hasn't gotten the steps to be synced with movement speed, and it just looks very tacky to me.

Speaking about units, whenever I see a mech soldier with a sword I just feel this is ridicolous, it's 1400 tech being used in a future setting, just completely removes any immersion imediatly for me

The movement is off for sure, the devs have also said they're bugged (supposed to have no collision and walk over other units like sc2 colossus). But unfortunately I disagree with the design :D they look fantastic. The closest we have to a anything horror/folklore looking.

I imagine lore-wise they're these giant dinosaur-like figures that slowly loom around pulling any smaller being in, kinda like those longleg creatures in the Kong: Skull Island movie. Shame they don't have Blizzard budget cinematics.

The new Amara is out

I strongly prefer the Borderlands 3 Amara to this Amara. However, this Amara is a clear improvement. You don't want your characters looking like they fit in the Concord universe.

I think if anything the scars should be made more noticeable. You can barely see them in the new one.

We can see how much the subreddit was desperate for some of positivity. A couple graphical updates and people seem excited. To be honest, a little surprising to me.

Let's hope they can nail some of the 1v1 design next week too.

Eh, now they're just cartoonish, which is fine. Before she looked like a duck-footed bobble-head.

E: and yes, it's pretty generic, but generic is better than weird mecha-gnome.
