Later becoming a huge inspiration for Mass Effect and other modern titles, the original Starflight was a early though BRILLIANTLY designed sandbox space RPG, and one of those games I'll just never ever forget.
I played it on my first computer, a Tandy 1000 EX with 265 k ram, but the game design was so ahead of its time that the neanderthal hardware didn't stop me from getting space chills all the way up my spine. With the that endless starscape to uncover and explore, those cryptic alien races, and the irresistible temptation of risking it all just to get to scan the next solar system for ancient artefacts...this game stirred my imagination like no other, and I could just never stop playing. This is the game that made me a gamer.
And now the original head designer is planning to make a sequel for today's systems! Currently being crowdfunded at Fig. As you can see the goal is set relatively low and is still pretty far from being met. But knowing how amazing the original game became despite being developed on basically 0 budget, my backing was in the second I saw this...
So, sharing this here in hopes that some of you will know what I'm talking about, and that maybe some will even discover an incredible game they never knew existed! I haven't been this excited about a sequel in...years.
