149 on expert. Supposedly a good player can get 80 secs but I just can't figure it out (last semester I pushed hard to get good at minesweeper but didn't happen).

To even be considered moderately good, you're supposed to have combined beginner, intermediate, and expert times less than 100 seconds
my bests are beginner 3 seconds, intermediate 22 seconds, and expert is what killed me..cause it's like 130
*note* I did some searching online a few years back to see how fast people actually were, that first statement wasn't to be a prick, but it seems that averaging under 100 seconds is pretty standard to be good

I have pics but since the timer can be frozen they're pretty worthless =o
I'm pretty far away from my peak minesweeper play (which of course is still nothing compared to the craziest players on them minesweeper sites).

I can't even believe there's a community of minesweeper players. Everything has it's niche, I guess. My best time on expert would be something like 5 minutes. ;P

it's all in recognizing certain patterns and having the handspeed to clear them quickly

i had a friend who was clicked insanely fast at minesweeper (he would either lose or clear expert in under 60 seconds) and i tried to get him into starcraft but he just wasnt interested ): he probably would have been able to crack 300 apm with training

55 seconds, i think.

i used to play a lot while on the phone with boring people like 10 years ago, don't really play it anymore. i could give some advice, but you're probably just better off reading the minesweeper community sites.

get the "minesweeper clone" client... it's got a ton of features that you'll like if you start to get serious about minesweeper.

A handicap for me is my cheap mouse, and I die 60% of the time on misclicks.

most of the time he would get to a point where he had to guess and would just pick whichever one was closer to his cursor

There's pros for these too? O_O

On my calculator easy mode (8x8), I managed to do it in 23 seconds

I never beat Expert mode T_T I kept getting mixed up between flagging and actually checking for mines. Maybe this is why I lose so many Dragoons to Spider Mines T_T

Beginner: 8 seconds
Intermediate: 40 seconds
Expert: 126 seconds (148 non-flagging!)

I can't understand how one could go faster, it seems physically impossible for me. And it's possible to finish expert with only 2 or 3 guesses, just think of what the numbers say about where the mines aren't as well as where they are.

Wow, I suck at minesweeper. On this computer my high scores are:

Beginner - 13 seconds
Intermediate - 73 seconds
Expert - 242 seconds

Though I think I have better scores, nothing amazing by any means, on other computers.

beginner is 100% luck, pointless to try to get "good" at
medium is for micro practice, ie no flagging
expert is what counts, but even then it takes a couple guesses

Beg: 1 sec (WR, Yay!)
Int: 21 sec
Exp: 86 sec (poor)

I did get 14 seconds on Intermediate, but it was glitched (although not my fault).

I got 25 seconds on Intermediate on my laptop mouse, too bad I didn't have a real mouse.
If anyone has any serious prayer requests please PM me. Thx.

expert depends so much on luck, you can click randomly 5-6 times and each time open a good portion of fields without mines and then you already solved half of it. sometimes you'll get 3 clicks and 4th will end up with a mine.
only time i remember is beginner 5sec and expert 150-160.

wrong. there are patterns in expert that are determined by your actions. notice how you never hit a mine with your first click. even if you open up a huge area whether you complete it quickly or not depends mainly on skill.

notice how i get on mine from first click, thus your theory is dead.

patterns are determined when u press new game or whtaever it is. dont believe me? type in xyzzy and hold shift for one second. top left pixel of your screen will turn black if you're mousing over a bomb.

you can most definitely click a bomb first

There's different versions of mine sweeper. With the standard version the mine format has nothing to do with your own course of action, so you can and often will hit a mine with your first click. There are several modified versions, however.

the first milestone is beating expert. the second milestone is beating expert <100. the third milestone is beating all 3 with a combined time <100. the greatest milestone would probably be not caring in the first place, but that is not a possibility for us.

When i was a beginner i thought it was a game for the intelligent. Then i began to understand the mine locations and started thinking it was a game of speed. Now i'm pretty sure that just having pure speed isn't enough. To be great you have to maximize the effectiveness of every one of your clicks. I used to flag nearly all of the mines but now i avoid about 25 of them. The guy in the video probably avoids 70% of them.

The cool thing is that video is currently the world's fastest time and it was set in april of 07... last month. Much like starcraft, minesweeper is a game so deep that people are still finding ways to improve their game.

I have reached that milestone... was there the first time I opened minesweeper and went "ahhh... sif bother!"
I really wanted a bigger opponent, like Nate Marquardt, or King Neptune, or Zeus, or Zeus and Fedor, or Fedor on Zeus's shoulders, and they can both punch but only Zeus can kick.
