Very positive early reviews for Kirby Air Riders, which comes out November 20th. Seems fun, frantic, and definitely not just a Mario Kart clone!
Nintendo Life: "There's a lot we still haven't seen, but even this early on, there's so much variety... I had a really nice time racing with others and the controls feel extremely natural and easy to learn. Kirby is having a heck of a year on Switch 2."
Polygon: "Even though Kirby Air Ride has a reputation for being simple, it’s deceptively complicated. That holds true in a sequel that’s even heavier on visual stimuli. The pace is faster, there are tons of enemies to whack, and using a power-up usually results in a massive explosion of color on-screen. Machines swerve around the tracks with loose movement that makes them feel like mechanical bulls at times."
Mashable: "By the time the five minutes are up, you might have a machine that's so fast that you can barely control it, or so powerful that it's unstoppable in the more combat-focused Stadium minigames. No two City Trial games feel the same. It's a little magical."
IGN: "Kirby Air Riders is so extremely not just a Mario Kart redux that riding around 150cc matches at home felt practically quaint. Wall rides and bar grinds? That’s cute. In Kirby Air Riders, I’m drifting corners so screamin’ fast that I barely had time to blink. Whirlpool traps and gentle river runs? How serene. Air Riders’ Waveflow Waters race course has violent vortexes and corridors of walls made of water to punch through. Oh, and brace yourself for a gigantic meteor shower of fireballs that reign down during City Trials too!"
GameRant: "After over two decades, Kirby Air Riders feels like more than just a sequel or a revival of a cult classic. Rather, it's almost a full reinvention that refuses to be just another racing game. Air Ride scratches the competitive itch for anyone who loves speed and just wants to race, but it's City Trial that gives the sequel its unique identity, with a great deal of chaos and strategy that makes every match feel different. And then there's plenty of room for experimentation with all the different riders and machines to choose from."
Usually I don't post rumors, but this has been corroborated by multiple sources and it's for the 40th anniversary of Mario:
A Nintendo Direct is reportedly on the way, and it'll be taking place mid-September.
The claim originally came from SwitchForce over on X (formerly Twitter), but VGC has also heard from multiple sources that a presentation is planned for 12th September. If that's the case, it'll be taking place the day before the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros.
i played Borderlands4 on the Nintendo Switch 2. its worse than Borderlands 3 on the Switch 2. its really bad. All the current Borderlands games run better on the Switch1.
I'm really surprised to see so much hype for Kirby air riders. i remember that game being panned as mediocre when it came out. It feels jarring to me like I blink and suddenly a lot of people online love the star wars prequels.

I think the original Kirby Air Ride (for the GameCube) had a bunch of mixed reviews, and I'm sure the upcoming sequel Kirby Air Riders (for the Switch 2) won't be for everyone either. Hopefully there will be a free demo for anyone interested in trying the game before they buy it.
The recent Pokemon World Championship had an in-person demo available for Pokemon Legends: Z-A. Here's some gameplay, combat, and analysis from that short demo (early game / tutorial stage spoiler alert, obviously):
Looks like the Switch 2 expansion of Kirby and the Forgotten Land, called Star-Crossed World, is absolutely phenomenal. Tons of extra content, to say nothing of the naturally improved graphics, load times, and framerate compared to the Switch 1 version. The upgrade pack is $20.
The free demo for Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter just dropped, in case you're interested in checking out an RPG from the Trails / The Legend of Heroes series! (The game releases on September 19th.)

I'm playing through the demo now - I never played the original. The first 30-45 minutes of the demo is definitely slow, although thankfully I wasn't getting this-"game"-is-basically-just-a-graphic-novel-like-Persona-5 vibes. After around 45 minutes, I started to enjoy Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. Gameplay is smooth, graphics are beautiful, and controls / difficulty / features are very customizable.
A couple minor critiques from playing for the first few hours: I'm still not completely sold on the combat yet (the battle tutorial is insufficient and took me quite a bit of trial-and-error), not being able to jump is a weird design choice, and I'm finding that one of the two main characters (the girl) is pretty irritating.
Overall it feels like a solid game though, and definitely worthy of at least checking out the free demo! For those on a time crunch: spending two hours on the demo will probably give you all the experience you need, to know if this game is for you.
ok, guys.. here is how it works. Nintendo wants to incentivize EA to pour gazillions of resources into making games for their new console. It is way easier for EA to make Madden NFL games for traditional consoles like the PS and XBOX due to their conventional architectures. It is a massive pain in the ass to make a Madden NFL game for a Nintendo system. So what does Nintendo do? They promise EA that they won't hand out DevKits to guys like King Javo who make tackle football games that compete with EA. This is why Nintendo is stingy with DevKits.
EA pours massive resources into making Madden NFL American tackle football games for the Switch2 while King Javo will get a Switch2 Dev Kit around 2029.
I’ve read that some developers are struggling to get kits for the Switch 2. However, how did you connect that with your theory that this is to reduce competition in order to incentivize EA to produce Madden, etc?

The Nintendo Switch 2 has sold over 2 million units in the U.S. alone. ... In addition, the sales success continues, with the Nintendo Switch 2 passing this recent milestone faster than its predecessor. ... In July, the Switch 2 surpassed 6 million copies sold worldwide, taking less than two months to reach that impressive figure. Games like Donkey Kong Bananza and Mario Kart World have also been major hits, and it seems things still aren't slowing down for Nintendo. ...
Games industry analyst Mat Piscatella recently shared that the Switch 2 had passed 2 million units sold in the U.S. on Bluesky, revealing that those sales were enough to drive a 21% monthly increase in hardware spending. He also pointed out how the console is now 75% ahead of the pace of the original Switch at this point in the system's lifecycle. Piscatella himself had predicted that the Switch 2 would not outsell the original, although that was before Nintendo revealed it and pre-orders rapidly sold out. There's always a chance sales could slow down before it surpasses the OG Switch, but so far, the Switch 2 has set a breakneck pace. ...
Comparisons to its predecessor are not the only thing impressive about the Switch 2's recent milestone. Piscatella also revealed that hardware sales for both the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S fell by 47% and 69%, respectively, in July. That means Nintendo more than made up for significant declines among its competitors to lift the overall market. The Switch 2 has already passed the lifetime sales of the Series X and S in Japan, but now it's carrying the gaming hardware sector in the U.S., at least for the moment. Unsurprisingly, the Switch 2 remains the best-selling piece of video game hardware in the U.S. for both July and 2025 as a whole."
