Am i missing the point of revives? After losing gym battle you're at 1hp not fainted so when do you use these?

I think the only time I've had to use a revive is if one of my Pokemon faint during a gym battle. On the other hand, when I have a Pokemon defending a gym and they get beaten by a new color, that Pokemon is sent back to me with 1 hp.

Basically, revives have been insanely useless so far for me. I've used about 5 so far.

Unfortunately, I don't think so, which makes me upset when some jerk/ troll/ five year old throws in a CP level 50 spearow instead of a 1,000+ level Pokemon -.-'

I know that the gym level = how many Pokemon can be stored at that gym for defense, but how does that number increase or decrease? I think it has to do with how many battles other people have won or lost against the gym, but is there anything I can do at my own color gym (e.g., train and win? train and lose?) to increase the number of Pokemon? There are some blue gyms in my area that I want to help defend, but they're already "full" (at like 2 or 3 only) so there isn't a spot for me to deposit my own Pokemon.

If you go to a gym that your team owns, you have the option to 'train' against it with one pokemon. If you beat at least one pokemon there, the gym gains prestige (i.e. the X/2000, X/4000, X/12000, etc. number goes up, going up by more the better you do). If you can break the boundary, by say increasing the gym to 2050/2000 prestige, the gym goes up a level, and gains a new open slot for a pokemon, which you can then fill with one of your own. Its prestige is now 2050/4000, and if it drops below 2000, it will lose a level and the lowest pokemon will be kicked out.

So yes, you can do things at your own color gyms, but only if you can defeat the lowest-level pokemon there. Also yes, I believe that training at your own gym leaves your pokemon at 1HP, while battling another color gym drops them to 0, requiring a revive.

Thanks! Can you train against the weakest Pokemon at your gym repeatedly to slowly gain more and more prestige points, or do you have to move up to the stronger Pokemon? And do you gain more prestige if you beat a stronger Pokemon?

And for those Pokemon defending (at my own color gym) that I beat or weaken, do they get knocked out of the gym or lose health? That would certainly be bad if I inadvertently contribute to hurting my own gym! I'm guessing that their health bars are actually replenished after my training against them, when a different color trainer tries to take over the gym.

Yes, you can train against the weakest pokemon. Just run after you beat the first one. You gain prestige linearly based on the number of pokemon you beat, and you get an additional bonus for beating the entire gym. Defending pokemon do not lose any hp or get knocked out when training. All pokemon at gyms replenish their hp after every battle whether it's training or a real battle. Only when a pokemon gets evicted, does it go back to the trainer at 1hp.

You can repeatedly train against the weakest. You get more prestige the deeper into the gym you get, I believe. In my experience (only 3 or 4 gyms worth), you get about 100 prestige per pokemon you beat in a run. The ones you beat don't get knocked out or lose any health, the only way for them to be knocked out is by an opponent of another color lowering the gym below one of the threshold points for prestige, where it'll drop a level and lose the weakest pokemon there. Every gym pokemon always starts fights at full health, regardless of training or challenging.

I haven't done this a lot, but I have one high-level Flareon that can train gyms so I'm trying to use him relatively frequently =)

Does the same apply to enemy gyms? Can you go and knock out the weakest pokemons there and still get something for the trouble?

It lowers the prestige of the enemy gym, which means eventually they'll have fewer Pokemon defending.

Training is one of the good points on leaving one weak pokemon in a gym. It makes it easier to train in that gym.

If you have a pokemon defending in a gym, you can go to the shop and click on the little shield icon in the top right every 21 hours (as long as you still have a pokemon defending) and you get some currency (coins and dust) as a defender bonus.

Then you can use said coins to purchase Incense and Lures basically.

Some can max out higher than others; it depends on its starting CP, its progress around the white semi-circle, your level, etc.

And after your 21-hour shop bonus refreshes, if you can nab a few gyms really quickly (before you lose them), then you can get greater bonuses with the gym-shield

i thought starting CP was irrelevant; that all pokemon of the same type can get to the same CP cap, but you have to power them up.
