Some can max out higher than others; it depends on its starting CP, its progress around the white semi-circle, your level, etc.

i thought starting CP was irrelevant; that all pokemon of the same type can get to the same CP cap, but you have to power them up.

I've been experimenting and looking at different resources, and it's unconfirmed at this point. Here are some useful discussions:

Im currently at lvl 20, and one thing I learned is that as you gain levels, wild pokemon will be much higher CP than anything you can hope to level up. I would advise blowing all candies on evolving everything you can just for the exp, but save the dust.

Leveling up to 15 is super fast. 15-20 starts to slow down a bit. 20+ is where the game starts being a grind, because there's a huge increase in exp required to level, and every pokemon you encounter is difficult to catch. It's not uncommon to find a level 250 weedle, and have to spend 5 berries and 5 great balls just to have it run away. Regular pokeballs are obsolete vs higher level or evolved pokemon, and great/ultra balls aren't very common. Level 19 -> 20 requires 25000 exp. Level 20 -> 21 requires 50000 exp.

at any point, do you feel the need to spend money?

i am level 10. i tried to catch a pidgeot last night at lvl 9 with raspberries and regular balls (i didnt have any better balls). after about 8-10 catches/escapes, my game crashed. was it basically a waste of my time trying to catch it? it was quite frustrating that it kept escaping.

After level 10 or 11 you receive Great Balls, which give better chances at catching higher evolved Pokemon. Probably wait around for those

Update for the game is out.

If you use a PTC account, however, don't update. PTC is broken in the new build, apparently.

You never really need to spend money, but there's a few items that are useful.

Lure modules are great if you have a large group of people, and you wanna camp by a triple pokestop spot, but right now there's a lot of people buying those so you can leech off others. Also, you get a bunch for free.

Lucky Eggs are really good if you want to level quickly, but you get 3 of them for free at level 9, 10, and 15 (iirc). I went from 10->17 off 2 lucky eggs just by mass collecting Weedles and Pidgeys, and evolving them at once. They only take 12 candies to evolve, and give 1k exp with lucky egg. You can buy more Lucky Eggs if you want, but the 3 free ones you get are great for exp dumping.

There's currently a bug where sometimes you freeze while catching a pokemon. The screen will just show the pokeball sitting there and nothing happening. The workaround is to wait until the loading icon at the top left is finished loading, and then you can safely reboot the app. If you ended up successfully catching the pokemon, you will see it in your inventory.

I’ve been thinking about this since I got over the initial push of catching everything in my area, and there are some basic things about Go that really bug me. Perhaps this is personal taste and I'm alone in this, but to me it’s missing both a lot of the heart of the original series and a lot of the promise of the new format.

1. There is far too little diversity outside major cities, and far too much within them.
+ Show Spoiler +
The first part of this is a no-brainer to anyone who’s tried to play the game in a rural area. There’s just nothing there. I can catch more in a 10 minute walk in my neighborhood park than a 2 hour walk in the forest, and that’s just wrong.

The second part is perhaps more controversial, but I think it’s true. I want incentives to explore random streets I’ve never walked down rather than doing the park over and over. I want an incentive to actually go to a forest looking for pokemon. Really, I want an incentive to go anywhere other than my city’s CBD, and so far it doesn't exist.

2. Pokemon are way too disposable.
+ Show Spoiler +
There is no way to level a pokemon without finding more, and usually the wild ones are stronger than the original anyway because you've levelled up since then.

The heart of the original series was finding team members that would stick with you. You spent your time naming, training, and caring for these things as they grew with you. Now they’re just soldiers; you catch them, you fight with the strong ones until they’re superseded, you evolve the crappy ones for XP, and then you grind them all down into candy. The process has no soul.

3. If I already have strong pokemon of some type, it's silly that it's better to find weak ones than intermediate ones.
+ Show Spoiler +
If I have a pidgeot and see a pidgey and a pidgeotto on my screen, I should still want to track the pidgeotto. That’s what I instinctively want to do - "it's shinier!" - and what the game should encourage me to do unless I have some specific reason for wanting a pidgey.

In actual fact, the pidgey is worth the same candy and XP and will take a single pokeball, while the pidgeotto could be expensive and annoying to catch but has no value to offset that. There is no reward for going to the extra effort, and that’s a huge problem in the day-to-day game.

This is particularly annoying once you hit higher levels and even the pidgeys and weedles start taking multiple balls. Like fuck off you're just 4 candies with wings and I'm lv18. Get in the ball.

4. The combination of all three of the above means that travel is much less rewarding than it should be.
+ Show Spoiler +
One of the single most promising aspects of Go was that it would encourage me to explore, to find new places, and to bring things back. I wanted to travel to Norway, catch a lapras, and then to have my friends be jealous of this rare and wonderful thing that I found and treasured for the next year.

In practice, the lapras that I found in Norway is rapidly superseded by the lapras that I found in my city’s CBD. My friends all have one anyway. And if by some miracle there weren’t lapras in my city, the one I brought back would be useless anyway because I have no way to level it without finding more.

Thoughts?

Haven't found any need to spend any money. I frequently go to Poke Stops so I have a maxed out item bag most of the time, and any time I get poke coins, I spend them on Lucky Eggs for faster exp.

I really haven't found much difference between the balls. When you switch to a great ball, the colored ring becomes a little lighter, implying that the difficulty has changed from red to dark orange or yellow to light green, etc. It doesn't seem to be a significant change though... my color blind brother can't even tell the difference between the poke ball ring and the great ball ring lol

I very much agree with your issues, and I hope that Nintendo/ Niantic update/ patch some things in the future. It's only the first two weeks though

Bit of a technical question but hopefully someone here can help me!

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 (2013 phone iirc) and I couldn't actually get the game from the play store, so I got the game through an apk. This had its probelms at first (blank green screen once loaded in), but I eventually got it working. My problem now is that the game crashes A LOT. About every 5-10 minutes of it being open the game closes and my phone tells me "Unfortunately Pokemon Go has stopped". I didn't want to ask in any official places because I didnt dl the game from the play store! But afaik my device SHOULD be compatible, because it meets the requirements it outlined (4.4 os, samsung processor instead of intel ( I guess :/), and so on), yet it crashes all of the time.

I've tried simple things like clearing the cache but it still happens. I have no money to be thinking about a new device and this phone still functions fine even though I've had it forever at this point, so I am hoping someone might know something.

Your phone either is not fast enough to run it or it's taking all the ram and your phone is force closing it.

Fast enough as in the processor can't keep up? And is there a way I can give the app priority or something when I want to be playing it? Or am I just SOL for buying a phone a year too early =[

Does your phone heat up a lot when you play pokemon go? If the phone gets too hot, the phone throttles itself and that may cause pokemon go to crash since it won't be running fast enough. If that's not the case, then lack of ram might be causing the force quits. (do you have only 1 gb ram or 1.5?)

If you're rooted, you can try to see if installing a non-touchwiz custom rom works.
Or you can get a cheap used phone for now.

Sometimes it does get quite hot, but it has happened before when I first started up the game in the morning as well. I have 1.5gb.

Not rooted, not sure if I should/how to/what benefits I would get.

I may just have to deal with this until I can get something else, because afaik I can't even get the updates because they wont be pushed from playstore? (playstore on my phone doesnt recognize that I even have the game installed, I guess because I didn't do it from there).
I am just unsure of why it tells me I cant dl it. I have an AT&T Samsung SAMSUNG-SGH-I747

I'm also working on a side-loaded galaxy S3, and I can say that mine crashes a whole lot. Just requires patience. Not sure if there's a solution, but I haven't looked too closely either.

Yeah I just looked into the RAM usage after ICEs response and I was using about 2/3 of it before I had anything running myself, so that could have well been it. I will try and play around in it a bit to see if it still crashes at all or at the same frequency.

I'm just a little confused why play store won't let the phone dl it. Is anything higher than 4.3 not supported on samsungs side or??? Because my phone says 4.4(kitkat) which meets the reqs.

Well clearing up RAM didn't seem to help the issue, I do use a rather bulky phone case (otterbox) so that might contribute to it getting too hot after a bit? Took it off and for now the phone gets warm but not 'hot' (yet). Will see if that does anything~~

Anyways, thanks for the help IceHism.
