Chosen seem to be a mix of Alien Rulers and Exalt from Xcom 1. I hope they fix the problems of Xcom 2 vanilla. It would be hard to go back from LW2 to a worse game.

Not a big fan of the zombies to be honest. Still a bit excited. I dont understand who the guy in the suit is supposed to be though. Dont exactly remember the ending of xcom 2 but commander made it back with the avatar and is alive isnt he?

I assume the guy in the suit is the commander before the start of xcom 2 (since you rescue yourself? during the tutorial mission)
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death

Alien Rulers are getting overhauled for War of the Chosen. They will for example not get a reaction turn when you reload or for stuff happening outside of their LoS

The timeline for xcom 2 is completely separate from the first game. It is what would have happened if humans got over run.

Yes, i know, but at the start of xcom2 it is bradford who rescues commander and as far as i remember at the end of the game commander is still alive and back at the ship. So if the suit guy is really commander it has to be before xcom2? But i dont think it is, we also see scenes with bradford and shen.

Summary of that article: War of the Chosen might as well turn XCOM 2 into XCOM 3, because it changes that many things around. A vanilla campaign will be a bit longer compared to no expansion (but still not as long as Long War 2)

Not really. You will just get a few more missions, nothing major changes. And in end game you will be even more OP due to Hero units and special weapons you get from defeated Chosen.

sounds fun and adds alot of things mods can take advantage of. Looking forward to it, especially since I am currently trying to figure out Long War, but the added rng takes alot of the fun away for me.

Mario/Rabbits X-Com coming out on the same day too.

oh man, i can't wait for a polished long world war mod, whereby XCOM vs Julian Mech race vs ADVENT vs EXALT vs defected alien king with his own side.

I hope it becomes like xcom meets civ, which is perfect considering their the same studio

The Reapers use a new form of concealment called Reaper Shadow, which only has a chance of breaking after firing/taking an action. They also have other abilities for stealth gameplay that is certainly interesting as well

Yeah it certainly does keep you busy. They did not joke when they said that it was almost XCOM 3. Now I'm just waiting for the mods I'm using to update

I know that the missions in the Alien Hunters and Shen's Last Gift DLCs will not show up if you use the "Integrated" option in the set-up. One one hand, I understand that getting both The Lost and Abandoned and the DLC missions early would be too much on top of all the new content in WOTC, but on the other hand I am going to miss those, especially "The Lost Towers". Also, the experimental weapons from Alien Hunters is now a Proving Grounds projects after a research, so don't research it before you have a Proving Grounds

The difficulty curve is quite interesting. You get a decent squad pretty early, but due to fatigue, the chosens and what not, i am almost on july and i have no captain yet for the squad size upgrade. At this point i would be pretty comfy already, but i have to field squaddies pretty much every other mission. I am loving this.

And the warlock is nuts. Get some psi-shields. Seriously.

i think this is a pretty good expansion. you feel hopeless trying to save one place after another and not being able to reach everywhere at once. when long war adapts to this it would be insane :D

i really want a casual game like stardew valley after this

Might just be confirmation bias but I think disabling the Lost & Abandoned mission makes the game significantly harder.

Granted this is from a sample size across 5 Legendary ironman games. 1st game: Lost & Abandoned enabled. No chosen on 1st retaliation mission. 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th game: Lost & Abandoned disabled. Chosen on every first retaliation mission. Maybe i should've done 4 more games with Lost & Abandoned enabled.

I don't know about that they made a pretty large expansion like this for the original xcom and that went over pretty well.

Early game was super busy with events popping left right and center. Felt there was no time to scan anything. I rushed psionics asap, getting my 2nd set of 2 psi-ops with most of the good offensive abilities unlocked, they still rock. Templars are crazy dps, my first one rolled bladestorm as a bonus trainable :D

Now reaching late game, I'm finding the 2 items from vanilla end game I don't want to be without are the same still, mimic beacons and bluescreen rounds. Mob health is getting quite crazy and big mecs with a lot of armor are an absolute fucking pain to deal with without bluescreen rounds. Gonna have to drop mimic beacons for mind shields when killing the warlock, mine rolled Meclord as first trained ability, so it summons bluescreen fodder.

Melee units seem to fare much better than what I'm used to (too much LW2 with insane pod sizes). The few wounds they take during missions charging in heal in about the same time the backline dudes recover from tiredness. I've had good use out of rangers and the templar. Pumping inspires and a teamwork action into the templar basicly 1 rounded the assassin when I killed her in the stronghold.
