I can run medium/fair and get 20-30 FPS on average (funnily enough, raids, bgs and arena seem smoother than Warspear/Garrison) and I was thinking about upgrading my GPU (and getting a SSD). Are you guys saying that because WoW taxes CPU the most I won't be getting a noticeable increase in framerate? I can't afford to replace my entire rig right now and new GPU and SSD seemed like the easiest way to patch the problem before being able to afford a new setup. Am I wrong? You might! I need to know your rig to be able to analyse that. Sometimes, GPU can be the bottleneck. Easiest way to check is to put resolution lower/higher, see if your framerate changes greatly. If it does, then it's the graphics card's fault. if not, it's the CPU that's lacking. In general something along the lines of a GTX 660+ should be fine, I was playing on decent settings with my HD 6950 (nearly 4 year old card), but the CPU usually really lacks. an SSD will help load times, but I don't think it helps FPS in any noticeable manner, WoW textures aren't that hi-res anyway. Post your specs, and people will take a look at it.

There are guilds progressing steadily through end game content, it'd certainly be enough to keep it running, assuming the right amount of playerbase. Besides, it'd be the first one of its kind, I don't think there is a site like TL for WoW, most people just go on the bnet forums

Top guilds have been farming with a few mains and a lot of alts repeatedly for years now. As for a WoW TL site. Why would you? There are already many websites with long WoW traditions. There is no need for a new website when sites like MMO-C already exist.

because of the mythic wait lock out (2 weeks) basically the only way to ensure you are competitive for mythic these days is to use alt farms while it wasn't uncommon back then it is now mandatory because of this short lockout period.

I mean, what's so silly about it? Except randomness of drops I guess...

Yes lets turn the race for world first into an even bigger RNG fest by forcing personal loot on raid teams. "I'm sorry your dps did not get a drop this week. Tobad you wanted to get Butcher down"

It's silly because it's just a huge time sink in order to get a passive increase on the power of your character. A competitive game would require a person to practice between performances, not farm.

The race for world first is not an esports, its simply a race that people do because they enjoy it (because there is no reward other then epeen) Why would blizzard spend significant effort trying to redesign/balance for the race to make it a genuine competitive thing?

Though I agree, and the competitiveness of PvE is thus a bit lessened by the grind influence. I disagree, it's somewhat of an esport - just not in the same manner as PvP. I mean, I would consider doing an Iron man a sporting event - even if you do it only to have done it.

Personal loot wont stop the alt grinding since then instead of 1 main and a bunch of alts you start the expansion with 8 warriors, run them all through Heroic and the one that gets the most loot is the one you take to mythic. The only system I can think of where you actually make it truely competitive is having preset gear inside a raid. When you enter all your stats are hard-locked at X value and you race to complete it in the shortest time. Do you think the top players would enjoy that? Also where does that leave blizzard and their re-playability? The gear grind is there to keep people paying.
