I'm curious how many people realised that (spoiler from the story) + Show Spoiler +
Sherlock is actually the assassin and Moriarty is the investigator. There is more explanation of this here.
It does help to figure out the spoiler if you have read
A Study in Scarlet
The Final Problem and
The Call of Cthulhu
before reading A Study in Emerald.
Anyway there is also a board game for 3-5 players that is being produced based on the story by award winning game designer Martin Wallace. You can download a print and play play test version at www.treefroggames.com/a-study-in-emerald and order the game itself on the kickstarter which has about 2 days left. Basicly it is a game about controlling different historical and fictional secret agents including Sherlock and Moriarty, and either playing as a restorationist trying to assassinate the old ones who control the world, or playing as a loyalist, trying to kill off the restorationists. You can check out the rulebook at www.treefroggames.com/print/a-study-in-emerald-rules-v2.pdf
