Just because your twisted mind goes to "rape" at the slightest tickle, maybe you're the problem. It just proves people can be offended by anything if you let them think to far into it... It's like white guilt towards racism. Some feminist wrote an article on it as if, the fact he was beating her at a video game, his comments suggested raping. I haven't heard "You're getting raped" in a really long time and this is one of the few times its been even remotely brought up. that's silly. take context out of the equation. you're telling me if you walked up to a woman you knew even, and out of the clear blue sky said 'just let it happen, it'll all be over soon' it isn't clearly a rape reference? okay, now put the context of a guy playing a game with a girl and beating her while she admits helplessness. Microsoft has since claimed it was unscripted and apologized for his mistake. it's not something crazy people are reading into it. edit: missed the S on she oops It's literally something I could have said with no intention of suggesting anything rape-related. I could have said that with rape not even crossing my mind. That said, your bullshit about "walking up to a woman under a clear blue sky" is pitiful and pathetic. Bring back the context because we're adults here, we don't look at things in a vacuum when context is important. You're PLAYING A GAME with somebody that you know and you tell them "just let it happen it'll all be over soon", it's just a way to tell them to capitulate, which is only tied to rape because people read into things. That phrasing was used for rape, and now idiots think it's all it can be used for. Are you that shallow? I've been criticizing Microsoft at every turn but this is some of the most disgusting nitpicking that shows no fucking class.
I'm not the one that suggested context was or wasn't a factor. it was a simple refute to the idea that its ONLY a rape reference due to context. calm your tits and read it all over again. try to relax on your personal attacks. did you stop for a moment to consider that maybe it IS a rape reference, but the truth of rape culture has actually made it something you can apply to other things freely and dissociatively? probably not. maybe that's not the case and you're right, but in the context of this debate it's something you should spend a minute or two considering to do everyone some justice.
I'm not sure which part of any of it was nitpicking so I can't quite say anything to that point.
also stop being an asshole. please.

When you say words out loud that communicate something other than your intent, you're bad at communicating (or lying I suppose). And the fact that you have to clarify your personal definition of a rape reference, means that you already acknowledge that is is a rape reference to most people. Your mind is not the be-all-end-all of what people think. Part of participating in society is understanding that people aren't mind readers and when you refuse to craft what you say based on how it will be perceived you're going to have a really hard time participating in conversations.

The delayed reaction was interesting. First the comment, then an hour or two later some tweets, then an article about said tweets, and then all of a sudden its an issue.
Its almost as if someone is orchestrating this reaction, and the witless drama freaks are just too easily taken in by it.

I think it's funny that we're in a world where apparently it's a bad thing to innocently say things that are immediately interpreted into something they're not. It's kind of funny to hear old people talk for that reason... because strangely they make penis jokes all the time and they don't even notice. And I apparently am at risk of making rape references by using perfectly clean language, telling someone to capitulate, because at some point in a movie or something, someone said "let it happen it'll all be over soon" in relation to rape.
And rape is so god damn powerful that it ruined that sentence for everybody. Because you let the concept of rape take it from you....
And I'm bad at communicating because YOU hear dick jokes when old people talk about big sausages. What I see is an upside down world where idiots make the rules. Some people think Charlie Chaplin was a nazi because he had the same mustache as Adolf Hitler.

I think everyone's overreacting way to much for this. I'm fairly confident MS will out due expectations since the bar is so low : P
Not that it matters, I save my scraps of change well enough to be able to afford both so I'll get by finding out which is better; imo I still think the reason I like Xbox more is the controller, a Playstation controller is just so non-ergonomic forcing both thumbs in a vertical line rather then your hands naturally falling over the controller (which I find in the Xbox controller).
Wat?
PS3 vs X360 was a tossup. PS3 argued it had better hardware, which it technically does... it is just really hard to use. Blu-ray vs HD-DVD was undecided. X360 still had that option, but bluray won which tremendously helped Sony. If HD-DVD won the PS3 was sunk. PSN was brand new and untested, xboxlive was already established The price of the PS3 was "reasonable" (purely because of all of the technology) and still way more than the 360. PS3 was $499/$599. X360 was $299/$399.
People also highly criticized the Sony conference about all kinds of things. "RIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RACERRR" and "giant enemy crab" ring a bell?

Microsoft is not the king at this gen(Nintendo is), Sony are now selling more PS3 than MS sell Xbox360.
If even the King can fail that hard, just wonder how hard will MS fail next-gen.

... If I walked up to a woman and asked her to let it happen, she'd then question "let what happen".
Man you have a serious issue of some sort... That was a horrendous attempt at an example. He's beating someone, she's losing, it's no more then a taunt. What if he said "let it finish" "let it end" is that now also rape context?
This rape culture thing is real, no doubt there, but it's not helping anyone by imagining situations are rape related when they're not... Two coworkers at a fucking press conference with a script; don't you think the woman who was palying would have said something if she thought, even the slightest, it was sexist? What about the game producer? Anyhting? Who would blatantly attempt to write or show off a scripted sexist comment.
You're wrong, flat out and unrefutably, but you're either to dense or to commited to the idea that every comment from a gamer must have some relation to rape if its "dominating women" as if this is the trend to take a look at the context. Next time I walk by a woman I'm going to ask her "let it happen" to see the effect, you should try to because the answer will be "what?" with a confused face.
Horrendous post, example and opinion.
EDIT: Can you link where microsoft stated it wasn't scripted?
And also it's kind of funny that we're all now prepared to believe microsoft saying it wasn't scripted, when saving face, because it backs our own opinions that it was a sexist comment BUT when they make other claims whether it be cloud, used games or subscription fees it's complete and utter bullshit and lies, it'll never work.
If I was microsoft I'd burn the guy to and say it wasn't scripted. Even unscripted it doesn't matter, I have failed to see a single competent argument made to show it was in anyway sexist or rape related...

I disagree. What he is saying is that the comment had nothing to do with rape. People are SO oversensitive to rape (and yes, i fully believe that although rape is one of the worst things that can happen to someone, if not the worst, you CAN be oversensitive) that they see it everywhere, even where there is no reference. If you are happy for rape to dominate every discussion you ever have, because you have to constantly dance your language around it, then go for it. Personally for me, life's too short.

1. There's nothing innocent about rape. Penises can be innocent so your comparison is like...really really bad. People react badly to the perception of a rape joke but not to the perception of a penis joke because one is violent and the other is not.
2. "You let the concept of rape take that sentence from you!" No. I just live in a world where I don't feel entitled to spout off every thought with any phrasing I want. That sentence wasn't "taken" from me and it wasn't "taken" from you either. Both of us can still freely use it. What you're whining about is the power to be interpreted any way you want, which is a power none of us ever had. You're whining because you can't completely divorce meaning from words and just have people read your mind whenever you speak.
3. If you're legitimately trying to tell me about sausages but you keep using phrasing appropriate for a dick joke...then yeah you are really bad at communicating. Is it so hard for you to understand that people can't read your mind?

Let's be serious here rezo... Did you not hear his 2-3 comments? He was obviously insinuating a rape scenario against a fellow coworker at a live press conference with little regard for his job. It's the only possible scenario; soon rape culture will be synonymous with how terrorism is used... Is there terrorism? Yes, is there rape culture? Yes but can both be overexaggerated? Absolutely as we see here and sadly in most places.
