I hope that within the coming months, more Xbox exclusive games are revealed or at least, some substantial exclusive content for games are revealed. No horse armor, i'm talking Shivering Isles stuff to make that $100 worth it to gamers.

I think PS has had xbox beat for exclusives both generations and is looking good for the next one as well. It is a matter of the genre you like. I don't play sports games or straight shooter games such as halo on consoles, which leaves xbox with a pretty weak exclusive lineup (most on PC).

Yeah it comes down to personal preference. And I also don't think PS is a slouch exclusives wise. I like my FF series as much as the next person. But when looking at Gears, Left4Dead, Halo, and Fable, I have to give the edge to XBox 360 imo. I don't really count PC in that though because PC isn't really competing with consoles because their sales aren't much affected really by what XBox and PS has going on.

I sort of feel like the reason that microsoft hyped up TV and mandates kinect is for the most accurate advertising numbers ever. You can figure out exactly how many people are watching your show, gauge their engagement, target ads, get viewer numbers etc etc if you have enough consoles in living rooms across the country.
Might just have to get the PS4 for KH3, FFX remake among other things >.<

Gears is overrated and hasn't been good since the first one, Left 4 Dead is on PC, Halo is ridiculously overrated, Fable is a shit series. I can see how some people with a PS3 could go "Damn, I wish I had Halo for the multiplayer" but that's about it.
PS3 has so much good stuff going for it, like MGS4, Uncharted, Last of us, Ni no kuni, Heavy Rain, Demon Souls... And this is coming from me, a guy who bought two 360s and no PS3. Xbox360 had the better versions of most multiplatform games, but the exclusives are honestly quite terrible.

That has basicly been my reasoning back in 2008 when I got a PS3. Already owning a PC there was little point for an xbox when almost everything was also released on either PC or PS3. For the PS4... yeah there's not even a question there.
I have no idea how microsoft is seeing the future. For me they have no future in Japan (never had anyway) and now they lost Europe imo (who was on the fence for the current generation).
They probably hope living only with the NA market...

What is the backwards compatibility of the 2 consoles? Is XboxOne not at all, and PS4 is backwards compatible?

So neither are backwards compatible at all?

Ive read that ps4 will charge money for multiplayer in the future just like the xbox.
That really supports my decision to refrain from buying a next gen console. You alread pay 10€ - 20€ more for console games. Also that the newest gta and fifa are still on ps3 is a good reason not to buy the next gen, those are like the biggest reasons to buy a console for me. Another plus for consoles was that you dont need to update your pc that often if youre fine to play games on your console.
But now i dont play fifa that much anymore and im going to buy a new pc. (Starcraft kinda substituted my need for the super competitive game) So there are few reasons left to get a console. I am positively suprised by the fifa app on my ipad which i bought for 0,89€ when it was on sale (-90%). Its quite good with almost no functionality lost. Have yet to try some of the gta apps when they are a bit cheaper. i dont buy apps for 5€. Its kinda interesting to see a tablet as a substitute for games you play relaxed on your sofa.
btw did anybody see that bf4 trailer where you could play the commander mode with your ipad? Thats pretty funny!! I want to try that!
So i guess i really sit out on that generation of consoles. Btw why is there no seperate playstation thhread? I just used this thread now as if it was the nextgen console thread
Also i dont really get backwarts compatibility. If you want to play your old games just keep your old console. You dont need the new one for that. Its not that you get much money for those anymore anyhow...

Just to note, I'm not a console guy, the only console I have right now is the Wii, and I only got it to play SSBB. But, to be completely honest, Sony can afford to charge for online play. Think about it; it's only competing with Xbox One, and for sure Xbox One will also have it; so if it's already destroying Xbox One in all these other aspects, adding having to pay for multiplayer is not necessarily a "bad" thing. Also; not to mention the new PSN+ will be offering free games, not just indie games, full featured games with it. Which is surprisingly nice, also should also now have more support for multiplayer now they have a revenue to work with.

Sony is doing a cloud based backwards capability. It won't come with the release of the console but they are designing it. Basically you're going to get the game streamed to your console from some outsourced server. It can't be backwards compatible with disks because of hex system vs. x86.

The online for xbox is 5 dollars a month, sony a little less. People spend 15 a month on mmo's, hell you spend how ever much on drinks other than water. If you want to play online I think 5 dollars a month is more than a reasonable price.

Old console breaks. People don't want machines sitting around taking space. People want to sell old one to fund their next gen one. PC player don't have to put up with this, why should they? lists goes on...

Wrong. Stop spreading misinformation. The ps4 will have backwards compatibility through clouds. I have no idea if xbox plans to implement a means to have it but Sony has one being produced.

I dont spend money on mmos. Drinks other than water are a very seperate issue not related to this topic. But i wont pay for console multiplayer when pc multiplayer is for free. That just seems silly especially because console games are also more expensive and worse in multiplayer than pc.. At some point you just say.. Meh.. I just play it on pc then.

I cant play my NES games on my SNES and my SNES games on my N64.
not sure when backward compatibility suddenly become an issue

"latest rumour suggests that this support will be used to enable PlayStation 3 compatibility by running the games on Gaikai's servers when a disc is detected."
This is old but I hope they pull off something like this.
"making it highly likely that the PlayStation 4 will launch with Gaikai support. This latest rumour suggests that this support will be used to enable PlayStation 3 compatibility by running the games on Gaikai's servers when a disc is detected."
http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/games/1298002/ps4-might-get-ps3-backwards-compatibility-after-all-thanks-to-gaikai
As if you have to buy the games again or something it's not backwards compatibility at all.
Thought I was on the E3 thread.

I'll wait a few months before actually buying it
