The higher price point will hurt xbox badly. They are going for the the mainstream audience but most parents, especially those who don't know anything about gaming, will go the cheaper PS4 instead. Don't forget its $500 + 60 XBL before any games.
Wrong. Stop spreading misinformation. The ps4 will have backwards compatibility through clouds. I have no idea if xbox plans to implement a means to have it but Sony has one being produced.
Lol. This is like saying that the PS3 is backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2 because you can download PS classics from PSN. Your old discs will not work on the system. Therefore it is not backwards compatible.

Old console breaks. People don't want machines sitting around taking space. People want to sell old one to fund their next gen one. PC player don't have to put up with this, why should they? lists goes on...
I cant play my NES games on my SNES and my SNES games on my N64.
not sure when backward compatibility suddenly become an issue
Typical of the growing sense of (gamer) entitlement in society today.
It's funny because companies (here Microsoft) are always trying to maximize their marginal profit by reduicing the possibilities for people to use their services with no monetarisation at all (starcraft 2 is somehow like that, other type of industries evolved around that, like Mosanto for exemple even if the shit is entirely different) but they seems to always forget that a big part of the value coming from their product is made by individuals who find ways to use their product in a different way, something you don't allow if you restrict the freedom of use by a systematic monetarisation and control - even if that suppose a lessen marginal profit for the firm in the end, the global profit is bigger since more people use their product. It's weird because I thought that the Xbox 360 was winning more or less against the PS3, and now I just don't want to buy that shitty XboxOne.
Microsoft really need to get their shit together. Competition is a good thing if we don't want console gaming to stagnate. I mean what will Sony really have to push for in terms of coming up with new IP's, exclusives etc if Microsoft is down for the count 2 years into the next generation? At that point they can pretty much just go into cruise control.
"Killer Instinct is a day-one digital-only release on Xbox One, and features -- get this -- one character. Jago is free to play on launch day. Everyone else -- unspecified returning characters as well as original fighters -- will cost money. Price is to-be-determined (of course). "

It's not like PS2 had any real competition (at least not outside of the US), and it was pretty amazing. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Remember that time when the Xdone actually stood a chance? ... This pretty much confirms its demise (which is a good thing), but it also means almost no competition for Sony, which isn't a good thing. But oh well. Congrats to Sony for having common sense and good riddance to M$'s BS.

gamecube ?
I stopped considering nintendo real competition to "serious" consoles after SNES. I mean I owned a N64, but I owned a PS1 as well, there were way too many exclusives and nintendo is just aiming to the kids crowd too hard. It's not really a choice between a Sony or a nintendo console like it is with Sony vs Microsoft.

The PS2 absolutely demolished the GC and XBox in sales.

I don't know man. Maybe after N64 you could consider them irreverent, but to include the N64? My days became much shorter for anything other than gaming when I had zelda, goldeneye, and mario kart to play with my neighbors. I could have wasted every waking moment playing those games back then.
i love how some people are crying about paying a little money to play online. If you can afford a 500 dollar/euro console, u can also afford the subscription. I completely understand that there are high costs for microsoft and sony for hosting the servers etc. The only thing is, with PS Plus you get so many extra things. When looking to XBox-live u're not getting that much at-all, just being able to play online, and you get a shitstorm of adds...

This kind of complacency is just sad. It isn't about cost, it's about principle. Previously, and with Nintendo and the PC now, multiplayer wasn't an extra feature that you had to pay for; it was and is a feature that is part of the game that you pay a large chunk of money for, and so you should be able to play it without paying additional costs.
