i need a good fighting game for an emulator to play with some friends during holidys... so it should run stable & at a decent frame rate.
i got street fighter alpha & street fighter 3 working, with one is better? didn´t like Capcom vs SNK 2 that much, Marvel vs Capcom 2 neither, too much carnage & special FX for me.
and what´s the best fighting game of all? haven´t played any mortal combat game for ages, and i never tried guilty gear, soul calibur and all the others...

street fighter alpha 3 is psx so it should run very smooth with a decent comp tekken up to 3 you can emulate because they are psx, above are ps2. Emulation for ps2 sucks so far soul edge is psx, soul calibur is dreamcast. I dont know about dreamcast emulation theres a guilty gear version for pc so no problems kof should run smooth (with mame or whatever you use) boody roar 1 and 2 are psx so they are fine (2 is better). BR 3 is ps2 so

If you want to play fighting games online then use Kawaks. It's easily the best for Neo-Geo/Capcom games.
Recommended fighting games are "Street Fighter Alpha 3" and "Marvel Vs Capcom". You could also try "Garou: Mark of the Wolves", "Vampire Saviour" and "King Of Fighters" (although I personally can't stand that game)
Also, even though it's not a fighting game, get Metal Slug, it's brilliant.

1) download an emulator 2) download a rom for that emulator 3) open the emulator 4) load up the rom 5) enjoy
definition of big words or shit like that: emulator - a program that emulates a console machine so that you can play games for that console on your pc rom - a game that has been ripped from the console cartridge or cd so you can open it on your computer
i don't mean to be condescending or anything... but it really is not as complicated as you make it out to be

ShoRyuKen. 2 turbo remains the best one they lamed it up after that. I remember running into my first korean, he could Dhalsim your ass to death and his Guile was deadly...
Greatest Fighting game ever...the one that started them all.

MAME32 is very easy to use. it actually emulates the original *arcade* machines, it´s great. dl it here: http://mame32qa.classicgaming.gamespy.com
get roms from sites like http://www.romnation.net/ or http://www.emuparadise.org/roms/ don´t unzip the files, just put the .zip in the rom directory, and you´re ready to go.
console emulators are a bit more difficult, you need to get bios files via filesharing, sometimes you´ll have to tinker with settings to fix graphics/sound glitches, sometimes roms simply won´t work. trying to emulate a modern console can be quite a hassle, better stick to titles that are a few years old.

While they are not console games i recommend
Melty Blood ReACT Eternal Fighter Zero

The best fighting game worthing getting good at is "Street Fighter 3, 3rd strike" Then it is probably Marvel 2.

Here's links to the best emulators for each system:
SNES - Zsnes (Snes9x is also ok but nowhere near as good)
Mega-Drive/Genesis - Gens (Without a doubt the best one)
NES - NNNJester (This is up for some debate)
PSX - EPSXE (This is where it gets complicated, setting up later systems is kind of a pain)
N64 - PJ64 or 1964 (See PSX)
Gameboy/Gameboy Advance - Visual Boy Advance (Best one)
Arcade - MAME32FX (I prefer this over standard MAME32, it has increased compatability, but no online)
Arcade (Capcom/Neo-Geo) - Kawaks (In my opinion, this is easily the best emulator for Capcom and Neo-Geo games, but some people prefer MAME)
As for roms, check google. I think TL frown upon people posting links to illegal content.
Most of these emulators are easy to set up (exceptions: PSX and N64) so you should have no troubles with them.
