If it allows them some creative freedom or reduces risks, go for it. It's not like anyone is forced to participate. That being said, I hope they handle the crowdfunding content better than in PoE. The contributor characters seemed pretty much out of place in the original and a lot of the backer goal features felt like they were simply crossing over stuff on the to do list rather than actually focusing on making the game more meaningful. For example the stronghold was very bland in almost every aspect.

Kickstarter is sold as a way to finance projects that have difficulties of doing so in regular ways, but devs seem to think it's also a good way to get the game community and hype train going. I don't see anything wrong with that, it's practically a finance-through-preorders at that point.

Crowdfunding in 2016 and 2017 is more about free marketing than collecting funds.

I'd like to think it made more than enough money to secure the studio's future, but it might be possible that they actually need some extra finance to finish the new one without some kind of time/publisher pressure. ... Or it's purely a marketing trick.

I think it is more of a marketing trick but also they can use funds from Fig to add some more system and content they might not want to risk doing if only investing their own money.

Yeah. To put the 1,1 million dollar goal to context, apparently the total budged for PoE was around 4 million dollars.

The main antagonist in PoE was so good - I hope they develop another like him more and a whole host of characters / interactions around the gods and their mysteries. I think Obsidian learned a lot from Tyranny so if they just go in that direction with PoE while keeping the mechanics that make PoE's world feel unique then the sequel will be perfect.

Farmer is a bad background if you want a realistic main character. It is more likely they do as in Dragon Age or recent Tyranny. Maybe have you just finishing your education when it starts. If you are a special person or not isn't relevant, more that you actually have a background that allows for strong level 1 characters. Else you have a very different game where you start out weak and it either has time skips in it or you force getting strong.

Because Steam doesn't give you exposure anymore and to many people use adblock. As Banner Saga 2 showed. In that case its just the best way to do preorders for a customer, because things get added that wouldn't be there. New studios still need it for funding etc, but in that case its still a risk where nothing may come from, except the physical rewards you payed for.

More active play in combat as well, on my 2handed char i play right now i mostly auto attack. I dont like that you have so many different spells either as priest or druid and so on. I want more builds that matters. Anyway, really good that they are bringing in more animations. Seeing a wizard actually cast a spell matteres in your decision what to do so animations are really important. For example ,right now i dont really see a wizard cast a spell until its to late.

What THe Hell. Those stretch goals are bloody ridicilous. Since they reached goal 1 it they will add multi-classing. I guess this means talents and skills will be shared, not all but some. Complete bullshit. Its not even fun with shared class skills.. it removes gameplay. A class works like x, but with some class skills from another class he can have great aoe as well.. Kinda remove strategy building and tactic since its a jack of all trades to much. Means making challenges will be not challenging enough for the player to use his brain. So the combat will never reach a high peak in greatness. Ah oh well maybe i care to much. Will most likely buy the game anyway, if they release it soonish. EDIT: And then next goal you can have 2sub-classes per class.. WTF!!!!!! Game developers know shit about gameplay these days. Although the gameplay might be decent on poe1 and might be decent in poe2 as well but thats it. FUCK!!! FUCK!!! Oh well

Oh well And yet NWN had a plethora of sub classes and had IMO the most complex character building in any RPG to date due to the multiclassing it provided. You could have two subclasses and it just made the game super interesting and added a ton of longevity.
