Their initial goal was 1.1M so i don't think anyone should be disappointed.
Well my favorite parts of BG/BG2/PS:T were exploring the big cities in each of those games. Getting a 2nd big city the size of the ones in those games would be amazing.

If you predict it based on the last hour of pledges they will make 500k! They got like 10k in the last hour. Of course I doubt it will maintain that this seems to be from a little rally on the forums to get people to increase their pledges.

When looking at the money totals on their kickstarter page, remember that there's also ~$80,000 raised by PayPal so far.

I'm fairly confident it will get to at least 3.5 mil, since the last day usually has a huge surge of pledges + paypal.

I think it'll end up at 3.4 or so. I personally don't care for another city. I like one of them, yet I feel another one is more expansion content with a separate story line. I did raise my pledge, yet I don't see myself raising it again for another city. If they reversed it so the stronghold was here I would get a few addons to maybe make it over the edge.
Basically, they have a too long jump between tiers to make it appeal to everybody, making me doubt it will raise enough for 3.5. Maybe if they posted more for 3.6, 3.7 and people held out hope for those they would make 3.5.

They'll definitely hit 3.5.
Combining PayPal and kickstarter, they're a bit over 3.2 with two days left to go. They've been averaging about $135,000 on kickstarter alone the last few days, and there's always a big surge of new/increased donations on the final day.
No question of them making it.

What how could you want a stronghold more than another big city? A stronghold is a single area worth of new content that will probably have like 2-4 hours of playtime a big city will be like 5-6 areas with 10+ hours of new playtime. Not to mention it just makes the game so much more full.

Because a stronghold is a very unique piece of content. Athkatla, Baldur's Gate, and Sigil all had a huge variety of stuff, but something like Crossroad Keep or a Suikoden castle plays out a lot differently than a big city and its quests.

Exactly, I mostly like linear games. Some branching is fun, but I don't need a lot to be happy. With a large city they either have them at parallel times (which would be too much branching for me) or after each other. If they are after each other I am afraid it will just dilute the focus on the overall plot due to the game becoming too long. There is a certain length at which a campaign isn't finished as often as I restart with a new class any longer. It is simply so long that I lose interest prior to finishing it. Around 40 hours tends to be it for me (only finished BG2 once, played ~10 chars), after that I often look forward to trying it differently more than finishing it.
I also happen to like stronghold type of content, they tend to appeal to the strategy part and min maxer in me depending on how they are done.
Edit, those that are counting the Paypal money for the total might be in for a surprise. The developers mostly see it covering people whose backing failed. There usually is a large amount of money never transferred due to various reasons people have of not being able to pay.

I'm really excited for this. I hope it doesn't turn out to be too good to be true.

I hate this! I hate that I will need to wait for up to 2 years to play it !!

Last 35 hours of the funding period... get your pledges in if you haven't already!

Looking very good for the big city! Counting paypal only like 100k to go. looks practically confirmed at this point.
|
At nearly 3.3m now with the added 100k from paypal and 26h left (which generally has seen a lot of traffic increase) I would say it is very doable.
|
|
3.4m now! 17 hours to go.

Actually, with paypal, it's above 3,5 mil already. Another stretch goal will soon be revealed, probably at 4 mil. It's the castle at the end of the road.
Also, the Endless Paths dungeon grows even more! Obsidian was hoping it would reach at least 12 levels and I think their wish might be granted.
