If it's done in the same scope like BG2 dungeons then we'll have 15-20 hours of gameplay in Endless Paths, which is awesome!
I loved Watcher's Keep in BG2.(and it was only 5 levels deep?)

It's the castle at the end of the road. Also, the Endless Paths dungeon grows even more! Obsidian was hoping it would reach at least 12 levels and I think their wish might be granted. What a tease! But getting to 4 mil in the next 16 hours is virtually impossible.

A completely dead genre that hasn't gotten anything but indie games in 10 years. No publisher would fund a game like this.

Kickstarter allows them to avoid having a publisher , which means no EA/Activison/ect inputing what does and does not go into the game. It also allows them to make more profits and/or sell the game at a lower price for profits similar to what they would get charging more and giving the publisher their cut. I'm sure they have tried pitching the game to publishers with no success prior to trying this. Just a reminder of the addons you can buy if you contributed early and want to get some of the higher tier rewards: Digital Add-Ons (Require $20 tier and above): •Digital Download of Expansion Pack +$20 (included in tiers $165 and above) •Digital Download of World Almanac +$15 (include in tiers $50 and above) •Digital Audio Book of the Novella by Chris Avellone +$20 (included in tiers $165 and above) •Digital Strategy Guide +$7 (included in tiers $80 and above) •Early Access Beta Key +$25 (included in tiers $110 and above) •Extra Digital Download of the Game +$25 •Extra Three Digital Downloads of the Game +$60

Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2, Icewind Dale 1 + 2, Planescape Torment, fallout 1 +2, ect. Basicly RPG's that were considered game of the year candidates/winners and many consider among the best RPG's ever. isometric just means a fixed over head camera similar to diablo 2. here is a screen shot from Planescape: Of course keep in mind that game was released in 1999 when computers supported much lower resolutions and CRT monitors not wide screen flat panels. The key was the gameplay and story which were excellent. You can buy all their old games on www.GOG.com and their are mods out that support HD resolutions and make the game look better than it did back then.

Important to note that none of those games were actually Obsidian Entertainment. They're all Black Isle. Black Isle Studios closed in 2003 after Interplay basically went bankrupt, and Obsidian opened that same year with many of the same employees. So while most of Obsidian worked on BG2, PS:T and the other great isometrics, the games that have been made under the Obsidian tag are Fallout: New Vegas, Knights of the Old Republic 2, Neverwinter Nights 2 + expansions, Dungeon Seige 3 and Alpha Protocol. Also the South Park game.

Can anyone give any examples of current games with roughly similar development costs? Or will Obsidian get more funding from other sources in addition to kickstarter? And those games spend most of that money on voice acting, and CGI sequences as well as costly marketing campaigns. Also you need to pay all the additional "suits" from the publishers. Tim Cain (working on Wasteland 2) talked how when working with publishers money just melts and is not spent rationally.
