Then again, Shogun 2 was probably a smaller, much more concentrated game. I always wonder why devs like CA don't take a few extra months, or even an extra year just to polish everything to a ridiculous level like Valve and Blizzard do.
As with all things. Money
Blizzard can afford to wait forever because of there WoW income. Valve because of steam. The time it takes to polish everything to that degree isnt in proportion with the extra money it makes you (between a good working game with a few minor bugs and a perfect one that is).

I kinda disapointed with the AI, even on legendary is kinda crap, letting you capture cities , at least with 1 capture point ...on release i guess it was expected, hoping they work on it for future patches. But overall im exited. If i could complain about other stuff, it would be interface, its feel , well , incomplete. For those reasons, its a 8 from 10 game for the moment for me

Downloading at a measly 2MB/s, ZZzzzz

Thats the Total War series standard but the UI complaints... Have to try it myself to see what the fuss is all about.

gahhhh 94% downloaded. luckily I remembered to start downloading before I left for school but I really expected it to be finished by now. Oh well won't be long. I was going to play carthage first but I played the hell out of them in the first RTW and I never really played the germanic nations so I think i'll start with one of those. I just like my elephants man, those elephants

yeah for real, I usually download off steam at about 6MB/s but right now its not even a MB.

I found FOTS/Shogun 2 much harder on Legendary than Rome 2 on legendary; so far, as Parthia and Sparta, it has been much easier than FOTS/Shogun 2

Glad we didnt let in evil verizon in, protecting all those valuable canadian telecom jobs at the price of having terrible and over priced internet is totally worth it.

American internet is awful too, don't you worry.

Anyone know how to change which GPU the game uses? The game seems to be using the integrated Intel thing and i want none of that.

It depends on where you live, how much you're willing to pay, and, strangely, what your credit rating is. I pay $50/month for my service even though I live in a town of less than 5,000 people ($8/month more for the router) and my cable delivers a consistent 2 MBps. Yes, bytes. Credit score was important because I got free installation with the deal.
'Course, I coulda gone with CenturyLink and crawled at 150 KBps for $20 less per month, lol.
I'm a bit of an achievement hunter, so I glanced through what achievements Rome II has. They brought back an old favorite from Napoleon:

But then, I saw an even tougher one.... :-o

Oi. Play it on easy, arrange diplomacy with EVERY-one, and choose your battles veerrrrry cautiously, hahaha!

Bonus points: Get both achievements in 1 game :D

Right click on desktop, your graphic card options, "3D settings" --> Put your graphic card instead of autoselect

Initial review of the game:
UI is definitely different and unfamiliar, but I think I can grow into it over time. Research and its reminders will prove a pain, however. Very difficult to tell what you're trying to study without the info. on the left.
Hotkeys in the campaign map are immensely helpful. Makes the already-streamlined macro even more easily handled
Selecting units and then moving around on the map induces a choppy framerate.
Game looks flipping beautiful even on Medium settings, lol. (was only running that for the Twitch stream; I'll try it on Ultra and Extreme later to see if there's a change when I'm not streaming)
Combat does take longer to resolve, and I would argue almost overpowered in some senses. Part of this was probably having high-stat units take on near-peasants in an overwhelming fashion, but I've concluded battles that would have auto-resolved with a close victory losing half my army, finished instead with a clear one and losing 27 men to 1,000+, lol. Only playing on normal; I guess I forgot how helpful it can be to take a fight to the field, hahaha!
I'm still really excited to explore all that there is to see in this game. Many, many hours to enjoy left.
On multiplayer: I do not see an Avatar Conquest mode to speak of.... :-o *phew!!*

Getting 40-58fps on medium-high.
i5 760 @ stock 560Ti 1GB 16GB DDR3 Native @ 1920x1080
edit: Medium shadows are pointless, might as well turn them off for a fps boost. Haven't turned it off yet though.

Holy god damn. After playing for 2 hours there are SO many things I love about it. The UI is annoyingly simplified looking and I think the general look of the management screens was better but holy shit I love so much of the new stuff! The general/ army cap, the massive amounts of abilities for agents, the 'houses' within your faction concept, the tactics of sea battles where it's all about working out the best angles for mass RAMMING SPEED. Really enjoying it :D

so i've been playing almost exclusively coop campaign today, and while our first attempt was quickly ended by one player getting stuck when ending his turn, as i posted earlier, some hilarious/horribly frustrating synch issues corrupted our saves and that was that, the second attempt went smoothly and we're gonna see if will stay that way. shogun 2 had some pretty bad bugs undermining any kind of coop campaign play when it was released. by far my favourite feature is the ability to paint on campaign- and battlemaps. so much fun.

The campaign is nuts. All of the major factions seem to be getting eaten alive by the minor factions.
