If by cross-play you mean play with PC players while you're on PS4 yourself and vice-versa, then yes. No distinction is made between platforms and PC/PS4 players are mixed together. On another note, though I've unsubbed due to being busy, I think I'm going to resub to do the new Hildibrand quest when 2.4 comes out. That stuff is pure gold.

I played the beta for ps4 it seems that what you pick depends on what city you start in. I am playing with my wife so we will ahve to start in the same city. She really loves warrior type charectors sword and sheild types. Not sure where that will make her start.

If it matters to you a lot just pick whatever class you can to start in the same city as her. Once you reach 15 or so you'll travel to the other cities where you can change classes to what you really want to play.

There are two tank classes in FFXIV. Gladiator (later Paladin) and Marauder (later Warrior). Gladiators start in Ul'dah, while Mauraders start in Limsa Lominsa. Gladiators are your typical sword and shield solders, they're the main and most popular class tank of FFXIV. Keep in mind there is no sword and shield DD class at the moment, it's all tanking through Gladiators. Marauders on the other hand are potent tankers too, but focus more on keeping aggro and dealing damage. They use axes. To put it simply, Gladiators use swords and shield and are more defensive, while Warriors use axes and are more offensive. It's a matter of preference. Generally, Gladiators are considered to be more straightforward, what with Paladin being arguably the most useful tanking class in the late game. I personally have a level 50 Warrior, and I find it very fun. The other melee classes are Lancer (later Dragoon) and Pugilist (later Monk). They respectively use lances and fists. I believe the rest of the classes available are ranged or magic. Either way, FFXIV offers a whole lot of flexibility in terms of classes, so you can try out whatever you want and see how you like it. I suggest to just be open to the options given to you and enjoy it all!

I can't wait for 2.4, hopefully it will bring four star crafting, because currently crafting is nothing but a gigantic grind.

I even joined some PF groups and those turned out to be equally bad or worse than the DF. Too often people just don't know what they're doing or aren't good enough to execute what is needed. Luckily I have a FC that helps with fights like those.

The hardest part is probably the second set of divebombs, that might be a pain if everyone doesn't pay attention... Dreadknights should die with all the DPS with barely any stun requirements and the final phase is a joke ... And of course the ilvl is probably like 25 higher than when I was running it Hm, personally I'm just hibernating until 2.4 Man...the horror stories I could tell you. Like someone running off by themselves 3 attempts in a row when they get a fireball icon over their head, even after having it explained to them how it works and where to go. Some dude running into the purple death wall during divebombs, getting raised, then running back into it 5 sec later. A (seriously) regular occurrence are the dps who will be doing less dmg than the MT. There is really no limit to how bad some of these players are D: Even on the odd chance that you get matched up with halfway decent players, there is always one or two who can't pay attention to twintania during twisters and start wiping people. That fight is the stuff of nightmares when paired with random people.

The main issue is that any multi phase raid is going to be very difficult to DF, because you need 7 other people who understand all of the phases and haven't cleared yet. Most of the serious endgame people have already finished it so everyone trying it now are fairly new to the game. It's not a complaint. It's just an excuse for why all I do is craft every day and play the marketboard game.
