What's the max level?
I bought the collectors back in 2010, played for 2 weeks and called it quits, not because I thought the game was bad, just other things popped up. Now I see that a revamped/reborn version is coming out after they closed to servers last year.
Will I be getting the "new" game for free? And, is it possible that I can get a beta key since I was an original owner of the game? Or are they sending beta invites randomly.

Gotta say I was having a heck of a lot of fun playing this yesterday. The game feels much much improved and polished than it did at release. The very beginning is a bit boring as you get maybe 10 quests that all involve running around your starting city to learn how to play. Once you get over that hurdle, you are set loose on the world with plenty of quests to do but not much in the way of hand-holding.
The difficulty feels appropriate so far, where you can get into trouble if you try to run ahead of your level or try to pull too many mobs at once. The Hunting Log is my favorite addition so far, where you get bonus XP for finding specific types of monsters and killing a small number of them (usually 4-5 at lower levels). It ends up giving you an excuse to explore the nice environments and takes the feeling of having to grind away almost completely. I also kept randomly finding FATEs while running around, which are like random events where mobs come and attack and if you kill them fast enough, or collect their items and deliver them in under the time limit everyone gets bonus XP. I found myself jumping into these constantly.
The controls are a lot more responsive than they were at release (I am using a controller on PC which took a bit of learning at first) and they feel nice to use. The only tough part is targeting, which is tough only using directional buttons. I got to lvl 11 so not as far as others in this thread but I cant wait to jump back in.

I ended up at lvl 29 thaumaturge as of last night and decided to stop. Not sure what the highest on my server was, maybe 30+ ish? You get a can get personal chocobo at around lvl 21 during the story quest which basically ended at that lvl in the beta. The instance bosses get alittle more interesting as you go through higher level stuff. You end up fighting Ifrit during a story group quest which was pretty cool.
|
The instances were really well balanced to be quite honest. I had to do the first one (Sastasha I think?) with Marauder x2, Archer, Lancer. Three of us had conjurer up to like level 4 and had no issues doing it. Took a little while to find a group and in the end I think too many groups tried to run 1tank/3dps because the lack of healers. Did Tam tara as well as copper mines with Thauma/Lancer/Marauder/Pugilist with ease. It's cool that they want you do to the holy trinity but you don't have to actually be leveled as a holy trinity to complete the lower level dungeons. Power leveling through fate is ridiculously fast. Join a fate at the last minute or so and you can easily get 3k xp.

The beta is now over with the next sort of test being this weekend i hear. (Just for reference, i played on Gilgamesh NA / Bahamut JP and met some quite pleasant players on both) For more opinions about the game (albiet probably slightly biased towards the game) you can visit the reddit page for ffxiv http://reddit.com/r/ffxiv I obviously like the game myself and don't really have the urgency to compare it to any other MMO at the moment.
Mixed feelings, positive and negative. Playing through the starting areas feels more like playing a random asian F2P MMO, than the next best thing and reference game on the market. But I've heard the later stages become better and better, so if that's the case, yay!
I think this statement is true with how other producers are going to be looking at the consensus/reception of ffxiv:arr's features to improve on them in one way or another, so in other words, i actually do think it will become a reference game of sorts.
I'm simply just looking forward to the next test and open beta at this point.
+ Show Spoiler +An added note based on what another person said in this thread is that i did not enjoy D&D:neverwinter or Tera nearly as much. In both games i could not stand the mundane questing, skipping all story dialogue and such. At the least in ff14:arr, i'm having fun with trying to follow the dialogue and making the most of the game world. You will often-times look for landscape to take a screenshot with. If i get a chance, i'll look at japanese reactions to the game though 2ch. or japanese boards. I'm pretty curious what they think of the new/old features or how they will see themselves playing this game in the future. So no, i would not rate this game on a scale of greater-than signs or by looping the games together into one pool, at the same time the game is not absolutely mind-blowing, it is an MMORPG at heart and all the tropes of those online worlds apply with this game as well.

I'm surprised how much positive feedback there is about this game on reddit. I'm looking forward to playing it. I thought I was guaranteed a beta key for purchasing 1.0 but I guess not

Whats the reddit thread for this game?
On another note, Square-enix customer support really blows. I can log into my account on the account management page, but I can't log in with that same account in the "members" portion of their website, and in the FAQ it says I should be able to. it states: + Show Spoiler +If I had a Square Enix Account, but wasn't a Member? Am I already registered?
Yes! All users of the Square Enix Account system are already eligible and registered as Square Enix Members, and have direct access to our system. Simply click the "login" button on the upperleft of the site and enter in the same username and password you used to sign in to your Square Enix Account.
But that's clearly not the case for me at the moment. So I put in a support ticket 2 days ago, and I got a response today saying they'll reply within 48 hours. So I'm supposed to wait 96 hours?
Not to mention they promised 1.0 players access to the beta, but I haven't gotten that yet either :/

This Friday according to friend, but I don't think I can do it. Haven't tried any beta yet but I'm fired up from them talking about it and looking forward to release.

It's very worth it. After the first hour or two the game becomes a lot more fun. The dungeons are really great.
This weekend is the next beta phase. 5am EST friday to 5am EST sunday.

I want to get to some dungeons this weekend. I got stuck last weekend as the server didn't respond towards a quest object. Hopefully that's fixed now.

The sword in the stump? (That's not the quest just what it actually was) On almost every server there was a literal physical line for people to stand in so that the desynch wouldn't happen. Fixed the issue mostly lol. The dungeons are very fun. If you're having trouble finding people for them just do a 3dps/1tank setup and make sure your dps are at least level 2 conjurer and they'll be easy.

The character creator in this game is god damn gorgeous. I literally spent hours in it looking at all the different races. Yea I may be a little obsessive with making a character just the way I like it, but still, it's great!

After reading a few posts, I assume this is a game worth playing? I am looking for a new game to play and this is what I am currently looking at.

Level 21 lancer, 2 conjurer, 8 thauma, 10 maruader, 6 miner, 9 goldsmith... etc. Very worth it. Considering you'll honestly never have to create a second character unless you really want to. Anyone can do anything it's just what you prefer or what your group needs. The dungeons are damn fun. And of course the game looks fucking amazing. GTX 770 i5-2500k can run it on max settings with 1080 p.

They also reference every other FF game to date. Most of them you don't even have to look for.

Wow that does look amazing! I only got a beta invite for my PS3, so sad :[

34 thaumaturge / 6 conjuror / 4 archer. Party content gets more interesting at higher levels. The instanced dungeon stuff isnt very hard, but that probably a good thing since its tied to the story quest lines.

Some world boss type fates.
