That's considered cheating . They're working on a way to prevent people from making the night visible without ingame light sources.

ut oh
good thing my shotgun got a flashlight on it, although surely people will see me coming :[

This almost sounds like an MMO to me, up to how many players do the servers support, or in how big servers do people usually play at?
And is the game fun to play alone or with just one or two friends, the videos I saw they were in really big groups and on voice comms but thats a bit too much hassle for me usually.
Also when you die do you have to start from zero?
So yeah I'm pretty clueless about it but the game looks cool to me and tempted to give it a shot just bit suspicious of the games engine which looks awful and might hurt the immersion.

Guys, if you happen to be playing please post some cool stories. I really love the realism, grit and twists in some of these day z tales!

most servers i've seen hold up to 50 people
i'd say its more fun to play with friends but its kind of hard to find each other seeing as how you dont get a map or minimap on the bright side though its easier to survive and you have more manpower vs other survivors
and yeah when you die you pretty much start over with the stuff you had in the beginning when you first started

Apparently there are 100 player servers around, although I haven't seen any. The most I've personally seen is a 65 slot server.
Haven't played in a few days, but i just got a mate of mine into it, so I'm sure I'll be playing more soon.

When you have more buddies you get a bit bolder although it can all end just as easy. Starting off, usually you're all along the south coast so if you know the name of where you spawned, hopefully you should meet up with each other fairly soon. I've seen 75 man servers.
When you die you start with the basic gear. It's really not that bad to be honest, if you find yourself a main weapon then you'll feel pretty good. Even if you've still got your pistol, gradually picking up stuff feels like progress.
I think if you play alone, you should be able to meet some friendlies. In my experience, when people are just with their starter gear they are way more interested in looting than killing you and stealing your beans.

Just joined the Steam group under the name Gerald. Any of you in the states hang out on a particular server?

Beans are a priority, must have my beans... Until I get meat.
edit: THE FEELING OF NO BEANS IS HORRIFYING!

This mod is pretty awesome. Zombie behavior needs some serious overhaul though (if it's even possible with the engine) because they are just an annoyance now. Also I hope they figure out how to make player interactions be more than just shooting everyone on sight. I just can't trust people with the current system unless they catch me off guard and decide not to kill me so might aswell do the same.
Had a small encounter today when playing with my friend. Friend had just died so we were trying to find him some gear. We were checking the deer stands around Green Mountain when we heard gunshots coming from the radio mast deep in the forest. It was midnight on the server and we couldn't really see anything but decided to go there anyway to find out what was going on. The place was full of zombies so we weren't sure if anyone even was inside the fenced area but we took positions near the entrance and waited. Soon we saw this guy walking towards the gate. Unfortunately for him just as he walks out he aggroes 5 or so zombies and starts wildly shooting at them. He seemed to be alone so we acted swiftly and killed him.
Got some nice loot: Coyote backpack and M4 for my friend, 3x NVG, 2x GPS, bloodpacks, a variety of other misc items and of course beans. I feel bad for the guy though, he stood no chance. Just shows you that every time you fire your weapon there's the possibility of someone hearing it and willing to track you down even in the middle of a forest during night.

DayZ is going to be officially included in ArmA, so it should turn out pretty close in that. They're also going to add the mod in the next ArmA 2:OA patch, but only a few people are developing the mod atm.

Okay, I'm going to wander into this thread to say it.
Someone needs to change the damn title to PERSISTENT

I got into a firefight with someone at the NW Airfield, lol. I was crawling around prone when bullets suddenly started flying all around me. I quickly ran into the tower building and hid on the 2nd story. He didn't hit me at all but he finally killed me when he threw a grenade through the window.
It was pretty epic.
|
ugh. i can walk up behind someone. shoot them with 8 bullets from 5 feet away. then they will slowly turn around as i reload, and shoot me 2 times and walk away while i die instantly. wtf is that
feels like such a waste of time playing when lag or glitchy zombies are just gunna kill ur guy and u have to start all over just to do the same thing
|
I found a mountain dew the other day it was a nice break from all the pepsis and cokes.
Also, i found out today that you stop moving while throwing a smoke grenade. i wish i knew that before using one when i was being chased by 4 zombies still alive, but i had to use a couple cooked steaks to get me back into shape. made it to a hill overlooking stary sober and logged out. im going to have quite a raiding party when i log back in

Looks like we all learned a lesson at Stary Sober today.
