To question 1) Lots of well placed AT guns, as well as ISU-152 and their Level 6 bombing doctrine does REALLY well. YOu just need to keep the ISU152 far back. They have super range.
Also, while you control map early, drop mines EVERYWHERE. Any damage to slowdown the germans from map control will help later. I dont use tanks until i reach ISU-152. I might make 1 Tank Destroyer, but u need t hat fuel. They 4-5 shot the panthers from about 2 screens away :p

I was going to ask something like "Am I the only one getting rolled as Soviet?", I guess I'm not the only one.

I normally start with some infantry, then get a mortar or machine gun crew depending. But after a few minutes, ze Germans come with 3-4 tanks, put some gun emplacements and that's it.

Any tips?

Btw,I'm playing 3v3, 4v4

Yeah I have only played with soviet so far and I am having a hard time.
The only time I win is when the German players suck sadly.

But I just try to spam anti tank guns at the right time. I have heard that some people have had some success spamming T-34s and ramming the enemy tanks then finishing it off with AT guns or other tanks.

I still don't understand why the soviets don't have any AT weapons on their infantry (or maybe they have and I have just missed it).

Seems whatever happens at the start, it all goes downhill when the Invincible Panther Gods show up. =/

Yeah. Just played a game (2v2) where the score was like 450-250 in our favor. That didn't matter though when the German tanks showed up -.-

If you have that much of an overwhelming advantage you should have at least two tanks for each one they have. VP only matters when the ticker hits zero. If you're exerting map control by ticking the clock down rather than starving the enemy resources then you're using your advantage wrong (or don't actually have one).

The Soviet advantage is in range and numbers. I also thinking ramming is typically a dumb maneuver. Unless your tank is going to die anyway or you want to force the tank to stay in a bad location then ramming just damages both the tanks and doesn't provide you an advantage. That might be because my friend uses the ram button whenever he can though so I have an unnatural hatred for it.

hehe same as coh1 it's why I picked germans in coh2 (well no americans) but I remember me and my friend would just get hammered if the germans ever got their tanks up xD

At least in CoH2 the tanks don't start with vet1 invulnerability.

Snipers early game. German squads are smaller than soviets, so you can kill them off faster with snipers. Most German team guns are better than soviet team guns. If you can snipe them off the gun have your conscripters go pick them up. I won a game today while being down 1 point to 475. Somehow managed to win thanks to picking off so many MG teams and using the mg's special ability against their own half tracks. Late game...well panthers will fuck you. I generally either spam MG or snipers and just try to get su85 asap. If you can have like three of them before one panther you should be alright. Also ISU-152's are panthers for the soviets. The MG on panthers has to go. Makes it so effective vs. infantry and team guns. If you're real lucky you could pick up and abandoned panther or panzershrek weapon but good luck.

Because historically the soviets didn't use mobile AT. When they finally developed some mobile AT the infantry hated it and never used it.

Guards rifle I think they're called? From the commanders are super useful against 90% of the german tanks. Those along with conscripts or the dudes who drop satchel charges can wreck. It also depends on what part of the map you're doing though. For me personally I always hope I spawn south (fuel side of the map with the water) it's much easier to hold with infantry than any other part of the map. There's also a lot less room for them to flank you.

Edit: Is there a site to upload/download replays for CoH2 like there is for sc2?

ive found the following build to work decently on 3v3/4v4
use starting engis to capture, build engis
use second engi to build rus t1
scout car, send it to support engis, don't lose it to panzerfausts
sniper team, put it in the clown car and harass like mad, build a penal squad + flamer
send one of the engis back to build t2, get an anti tank gun
just defend and kill things, go shock armor doctrine, get a shock troops + smgs
???
kv8+su85, then is2, win.

How does the kv8 fare against Panthers? Su-85's don't work well enough and there's not near enough fuel/manpower on the map to get t37's and Su-85' for ramming. I usually use the doctrine that allows ISU-152's because they're the only thing that can flat out beat panthers. Can go toe to toe pretty well with elefants as well if you have the concrete round off CD.

kv8s are probably the tankiest russian tank, even more so than is2s. What I like to do is send the kv8 followed by a pair of su85s and maybe an is2 if i can afford it. The kv8 kills all the panzergrenadiers, and if ur lucky ur shock troops can grab a panzerschreck or two. If the panzer goes for the kv8, the su85s can usually kill the panther before ur kv8 dies. If it tries to go for the su85s, u kill off the infantry and now the panther is isolated, and u can switch to the 45mm on the kv8 to have a shot at breaking its rear armor.

If it's 1v1......


Open into a Clown Car (Scout Car) with Sniper combo (put the Snipers in the car, proceed to watch hilarity ensue) and harass the living shit out of your opponent while decapping points. Get Hit the Dirt + Flame Molotovs and just spam Conscripts, control the map and get out your T-34. Adjust your build if you see him going Flame HT rush, otherwise continue as usual into fast T-34 build. Follow up with SU-85s and AT Guns for Barrage+Piercing, and just roll the other guy into oblivion with combined arms and superior ranged.
