If they did design the 'ultimate Sim City', I reckon you'll need some super computer if you decide to zoom in on the roads etc..

I haven't played sim city in a long time, but I hope i get to see some Ferrari's and Lambo's on the streets in the rich areas and old run down cars in the poorer areas.

The night life with traffic lights are epic!

Resources also overlap between players, it seems, as your cities will co-exist online with those of your friends. If you construct a horrible, downtrodden and pollutive metropolis, your friends will see the impact on their own simulated streets. (Protip: Don't be friends with anyone who wants to recreate Los Angeles.)

"And, by the way, it is a game," Bradshaw joked after all the talk of holistic world views and environmental dilapidation. "You never know when a giant lizard might just trundle around the corner and kick the buildings down."

I'd love the fuck out of this if they'd go closer to their roots.

I kinda feel like all of the recent simulations got dumbed down so they sell better (e.g. SimCity, Anno series). SimCity 3k was the last one I really enjoyed. =/

YES

I played tons of Simcity 2000 and 3000 back in the day, as well as other city-builder games like Caesar III. I haven't touched Simcity 4 yet, but I do own the game and will get to it... eventually.

Just to set the mood...

Simcity 2000 was awesome. Haven't touched the series since, but this seem like it might bring me back.

Sooo...here's what I foresee:

Core game $60
Residential area buildings DLC $10 - Build places for your people to live with the new, on launch, DLC!
Industrial area buildings DLC $10 - Generate more income and create jobs for your people. On launch DLC!
Natural disaster DLC $10 - Tired of the generic SimCity experience? EARTHQUAKE and FLOOD DLC! Available on launch.
Population DLC $10 - Want to populate your city? Have people walking its streets? On launch DLC!
SimPolice DLC $10 -Having trouble with crime? This DLC adds police stations to reduce crime!
AND
SO
ON!

YES. Some of my most hilarious moments in Sim City 4 involved creating a city that was about 90% industrial. The entire zone was covered in smoke and the rivers were piss yellow. Can't wait to screw around with my friends. :D

Why are they making SimCity 5 a propaganda for global warming?

Current state of gaming industry, blabla, EA ruining franchises and pushing user-unfriendly business models, yadda yadda, DLC and microtransactions profitable future for companies, and so forth and so on. I don't want to re-iterate everything that's already been said in the discussions about ME3 (the most recent example) and EA's policies in general. Do some reading.

It's sad, because it's not an unrealistic scenario for a franchise that's beloved by many, and it's (potentially) true because that's the direction many AAA titles these days seem to go.

I loved SimCity 2000, 3000, and 4. This one looks awesome. I hope they continue putting in cool music like 3000 and 4 had.

And that's not even fake. I just checked Origin, hoping our fears would be proven wrong, but it's actually there.

Hey Torte de Lini, that's what I meant with "sad but true". Told you so.

I still play SimCity 4 Deluxe (on steam) from time to time. It's a fantastic game, and I love the home-to-work paths and stuff. It's probably based on some random formula with little empirical background, but still, it's cool imagining a bunch of Sims commuting by walking to the nearest subway station then taking the subway and stuff.

I'll be eagerly awaiting for its release, but I might be skeptical about buying it right away. Like SimCity 4 Deluxe, I may just wait for a "complete pack" to go on sale, few years after the initial release.

heh, wow, so long since I played SimCity last time, I'd almost forgotten it

Pretty cute trailer I gotta say, not sure if I'll buy it or not whenever it gets released, but I think it's really cool that they're making a new SimCity anyway

That trailer concerns me a little bit. Is the game going to be like Anno or City life, where you've gotta look after completely different stereotypical classes and not let them intermingle or they'll fight each other? Because that would be bad.
