Is the entire game manual as in you have to read the cards and then carry out their effects yourself or does the engine control all that (like a normal Yugioh video game)? For example, you cast dark hole, you and your opponent have to manually select and put each of their monsters in the graveyard? Because I'm wondering how people have different ruling stances if the game does it for you.

Everything in this game is manual. Part of the reason why this site is so awesome.

There's a lot of newbies here on TL you can play against! We have our own IRC and such and already people who'll be willing to help you get up to speed

On top of that even the people who know how to play will often be glad to lend a hand. I'm not too familier with current metas (studying up on that and such) but I know the rules and can help you out.
