Sellswords?! That trilogy is sweeet. I'm looking forward when we get to the stage where renting mercs becomes one of the only ways to break the stronger groups!

The start was a lot of fun for sure!

Rushing off into the wilderness as soon as the server opened, try to kill that guy that was following me, only to see him warp away as soon as i hit him once with my bare hands.

Cutting down trees until i had 1 stack of wood, and then finding the nearest surface cave entrance, and staying down there for the next hour or 2. Killing mobs, which was super easy with the lag, they didn't move nor attack (unless you stood next to them for 5ish sec). Finding iron and coal, and upon reaching the lower 16 levels, coming across 2 diamonds! and plenty of redstone.

Actually came across a monster spawner (zombies) in the first 5 minutes underground, so used that to farm some delicious rotten flesh. And you know what they say when you get food poisoning from eating zombie flesh, just eat some more!


Really looking forward to playing some more tonight, see if i can't make a nice house/fortress somewhere. After that maybe explore the neighborhood, look for trouble, or go back underground in hunt of more precious diamonds!

Is there some sort of Kills/Deaths stats tracker btw? I think I'm about 7-1 currently but I can't remember :D

Doesn't seem like it's been posted yet, but they encountered a bit of data in the map-world that lead to some rather glitchy server issues.

Every few seconds there was 7(?) blocks in the world somewhere that had an incorrect ID and the server would try to fix it repeatedly but failing. This kinda leading to a situation where everytime the server tried to Save it would kinda...roll a die and see what happened either:: nothing happened and everything was fine, the server got extreme lagspikes or the server just went down.

The Real issue is that the corrupt data can actually just Destroy the map-world given time and Everything would be lost. The local vote as of 8 hours (?) ago I believe, was that to avoid having gone 5 days or soo into the round and everything just got lost. We'd just get a new map when the new server comes up and have all the people that logs on help to make a Giant community built starter town that irninja fixes up later with shops. After some time after that to see nothing is wrong, they'd start copy-pasting towns into the map and if any of the towns are the source of the issue they'd fix it.

This event would be awesome if it was just a blank map.

If the shrines, towns etc... are causing the map to crash then just remove them. To be honest I didn't think it was fair that those who snuck on first, already knew the map and had the best connections ran round collecting all the shrine items.

We don't need all that to have a great time xD

I'm going to agree with Klive5ive as well I think, I think the less work that is done from the default map, the better. Half of the fun of minecraft is the exploring, and its kind of jarring to come across these obviously man-built structures and caves, and takes the fun out of discovering things a bit. It might just be me with this opinion but to my mind, just the cities and the arena thing are enough of a draw.

It's quite a hard thing to balance I think, obviously you can't just have a completely open map with no customization, because people will just run off into the wilderness, never to be seen again, never interacting with the rest of the server, which goes against the point of a PvP server.

On the other hand, too much work on the map and it loses its sense of fun, and the experience becomes entirely artificial, to the point where you may as well just be playing an MMO like WoW because the world is linear.

To my mind, the perfect server is relatively untouched for the most part, but with things like the cities that are present on this server to act as a "draw". These cities need to act as a focal point, to bring people in to close proximity in order to encourage the PvP element, and prevent people from spending all their time in some corner of the map. To do this, the city needs to offer something that the wilderness doesn't, such as trade, convenience, entertainment etc etc.

This will mean that people travel to them, and in turn open the way for the road bandits, toll houses etc etc. Hell if those two particular professions take off in a big way, then maybe i'll start hiring myself out as a bodyguard, in order to protect you from bandits as you try to make your way back to your home with the goods you just bought in town etc etc.

The key point is, this stuff can't be forced on the player. It's the openness and freedom of this server that makes it fun for me, and too much in the way of map customization takes away from that.

Well said. That's why i like the cities! I also think that custom cities might appear in the longer run. Maybe owned by neutral factions and stuff. anyways. What is the plan ?

People have different mindsets though, there will be those who will prefer the diplomatic approach towards the faction alliances and warfare and there will be others who prefer to hack and slash their way to the top. With it being a PvP server it doesn't mean that every player is obliged to take part in the open world PvP but rather that the option is there if they chose to participate.
Rest assured there will always be factions at war, its human nature so you will always have some action.
Also, those who prefer the diplomatic stature will most likely be the ones providing the server will the weapons and ammunition through selling to the vendors.
I wouldn't compare the factions mod to WoW but rather I would compare it to EvE Online, player run factions, each with their own agenda, some hostile, some peaceful but ultimately all looking out of their own well being.

I agree with you, I think if PvP was the be-all and end-all of the server then it would just be a big arena with spawns either end I wasn't comparing the factions mod to WoW as a game mode, I was basically saying that if you edit the map TOO much then the game becomes similar to WoW in terms of linear play-through ("Go here, do this, now go here and do this, now here, now you have to do this") etc.

I've played on a couple of minecraft PvP servers that were like this, and it was boring.

last night taught us one thing, Ravens are OP. When we were seeing if it was the map that was the problem or the server we loaded a blank map with the factions mod only and we had full sets of iron and some diamond by the time everyone else only had maybe one iron weapon at most. Then irninja tried to kill us by using his god powers to give him full chain and diamond but when he turned off gamemode 1 we just killed him.
Then he called for help across the server and got 8 guys to attack the 4 of us. He armed them all with full diamond and set them on us ( we only had iron at the time) However we held only having one death. This happened 4 or so times till they gave up.

Just so everyone knows when the server goes live again Ravens are going to be a Mercenary faction.
