It's funny, I use to map make in 1.6 a lot. Never ended up making anything serious but did a lot of good aim maps / training maps for me and my clan at the time. That was probably 2004 or so when I would do that. Last night I decided to open up the CS:GO map editor just to see what's changed. It loads up..........
Exactly...the....same....lol
I was hoping it'd be a lot easier to use but nope, the exact same as it was 8 years ago. Problem is I don't remember how to use it all that well so I just closed it almost immediately (after opening up inferno just to look at it)
It does kind of make me want to relearn hammer just so I can attempt to make a competitive map, although even if I did make a pretty sweet map, the chances of it ever getting used are not good.

the competetive scene is in dire needs of new maps, if you make sure to promote it well you'll probably get it into some league, ESEA have been very accepting of new maps for example.

Doesn't make it a new map. Variations of an old map is still it being an old map.
okay so i join a game and csgo force shuts on me and I open it hoping to reconnect and it doesnt display the option so i join a random pub to kill time since I wasnt able to connect to the match making servers and I come back 5-10minutes later to see if I can queue and I have a 2hour cooldown GJ VALVE

Yep, that doesn't make it a new map.
Vertigo isn't very very different. It's literally the exact same layout with added stuff.
You might as well consider dust2, inferno, train, and nuke all brand new maps if you think adding or changing things to an old map makes it 'new'.
I'm kind of new to the CS competitive scene, I mostly played deathmatch and scoutzknivez servers in 1.6 and CSS. I just wanted to ask a potentially dumb question - when I watch pros or semipros play, it always looks like they have way less recoil and way more accuracy (with bullets, not reticle) than I do. Is there something I need to change in the config to make it this way, or do I just need to learn to play better? I normally burst shoot with automatic weapons, but it doesn't seem to help.

I am no authority on this but, it could be your mouse control. With ak you need to pull down slightly M4 down-left things like that best way to see how to control the mouse is to spray at a wall and see the pattern and practice spraying and hitting only the center.

stand and face a blank wall, hold your mouse button down and dont move anything.
then step to the side or face another wall and do the same thing a couple more times.
notice that the pattern is always the same each time you do it.
try to use your brain to figure out how you can predict where the bullets will go... then use your mouse to compensate for it - that way every bullet goes where you want it to.
I'm wondering whether I should buy this game or not. I have been trying to find a good FPS game to play for awhile, but I checked the major hacking websites (mpgh, d3scene) and I see loads of updated hacks. Is this game filled with hackers, and how is the replayability?

I've only seen one, maybe two hackers, in all the time that I've played CS:GO. They were only on community servers, and they were kicked very quickly. Because it's a game that you have to pay for, it's very risky to hack. Valve's anti-cheat system is better than most others. With the newly implemented MM playlists, I haven't worried about any blatant hacks.
The reason that should persuade you to buy the game, is not the hacking...this isn't Combat Arms or some other free MMOFPS. Valve is putting a lot of effort into updating the game, and making it an e-Sport. But hey, watch this montage of the latest CS:GO tournament, Northcon 2012; inspiring

Well, the reason why I was asking was because I used to play Counterstrike 1.6, and there were many hackers as well. If it wasn't blatant, like shooting through walls or aimbot, it was hidden, where they used hacks to look through walls. Thanks for the input though!

Yea, like GrimmJ said I haven't seen any hackers at all pretty much.
If you like CS, it is a buy for sure. Valve gave the game a lot of supports so far.

Yeah man, it isn't even close to being as prominent as 1.6...or even in Source.
Hey guys, just wanted to post two useful tips that may help some of you.
If you have trouble seeing the "ACCEPT" button for matchmaking and getting the "You did not accept" even if nothing popped up: Go to Steam menu => Steam => Settings => Downloads + Cloud => Set Game Server Browser to 250 (default is 3k).
If you're constantly crashing right after load screen finishes, go to your Steam Library => Right-click CS:GO => Properties => Set Launch Options => type in "-autoconfig". That worked like a charm, but if you're still getting problems, try "-safe" mode. Also try using different DirectX versions by launching with "-dxlevel 90" or "-dxlevel 80" or "-dxlevel 81".
