Hostage maps never were and hopefully never will be competitive.
Simply are there for fun.
Also, awp is as fine as it was in 1.6. It actually takes some skill to play with it and it is already expensive as hell.
One crossed wire, one wayward pinch of potassium chlorate, one errant twitch...and kablooie!

Same here, it's also because I want to feeel like I play a different game than source or 1.6.
And it looks ok for me. Took a while to get used to it though.

Things I currently dislike... placing NA people on EU servers during peak NA hours... "No, I dont want to play on a Luxembourg server with 170 ping, I understand that NA servers are under a heavy load... place me in a 5 min que if needed, but I dont want to fucking load/reload for 20 minutes until it stop putting us on Lux servers..."

Weapon placements... You kill a person, make him drop weapon underneath the body... I dont want to search for freaking deagle, nades, kits in the area...

Disable atmospheric particles in the game, competitive community already got rid of it on their maps and it looks fantastic... Don't terrorize the rest of the community...

Leaderboard is useless... Get rid of the global one and introduce just your friend list and introduce ranked matches history and stats.

Speaking of Ranked play... Where is it?... I want ranked play...

I've been playing cs since beta 5.2 up until 1.6 (about 11-12 years). Never played source, but I'm really digging CSGO. Spraying is almost non-existent. I mean even if you try to control it, it's still all over the place. Controlled burst is the way to go, which is super hard habbit for me to break seeing how I sprayed ALL the time

AWP is super good (expensive which is the only downside). I'm actually enjoying hostage rescue maps haha. I never use to play that back in the day. It was always dust2. Does anyone know how the system works for 5v5 matches. Is it an MMR like world of warcraft arena or something?

I probably won't get back into CS like I use to, but its definately worth 13 dollars, and will kill time : ]

Does anyone remember d6 (deep dix)?

Do you want this game to turn into the joke that is the SC2 ranking system?

The ranking system should be improved, not scrapped. Here are my suggestions:

1. The design of the filters on the leaderboard are very clunky. It should use drop down menus instead.

2. The leaderboard is laggy and takes a long time to load.

3. It also always gives some gibberish error and fails to load when I set the filter to "me". I'm clearly ranked because I can see my rank when I set the filter to "friends". Fix this bug.

4. A rank like 193,281 is meaningless. Out of what? To find out, you have to see that there's, say, 400,000 pages and 11 persons per page, then you calculate 193,281/(400,000*11). Please just display a percentile and save us this computation.

5. The rank is also meaningless because not all of those millions of players ranked are active, since ranks are inaccurate and noncurrent for inactive players. Kick inactive people off the leaderboard, until they play, say, at least 1 game a week.

6. Show the leaderboard percentile (not rank) on the profile/accomplishment page.

7. Explain the ELO icon. ELO is a number, NOT some undefined and indecipherable icon. What does the icon mean? How many icons are there? What are the names of the icon? Is <some icon> better than <some other icon>? Which icon corresponds to which ELO percentile? The ELO icon is meaningless because nowhere is it explained what it actually means.

Loving it so far, just can't wait for next ESEA season or some sort of team ranked play (or the glorious rebirth of CAL).

A few thoughts after playing all weekend-

- ELO/MMR doesn't scale quick enough. Dropping 30bombs on kids in classic competitive and rarely having 6/10 people competent at scrimming was frustrating.

- If I queue for scrims, why am I joining games in the 10th round? Wtf?

- I noticed a weird weapon damage glitch. I was dicking around with the XM1014 in a particularly faceroll game, and engaged someone at relatively short range. First shot in the chest, blood spattered, he didn't die, thought that was weird. Second shot, same thing, then third and fourth. All 4 shots were lined up, the guy whiffed me twice with AWP, should be easy kill. All 4 shots had blood spray. He doesn't die, someone else kills me- check console, damage done: 8dmg in 1hit. What the hell? Anyone else seen this?

- The new smokes are fking amazing. Until people start config hacking to break this (maxsmokepuffs, anyone?), they really help taking corners/bombsites.

- The new incendiary grenades are incredible for stopping a rush. They can easily buy time for your mid to rotate to b on dust 2, for example.

- Mag7 and P90 are retardedly good.

- New ESP-hackesque minimap is a little silly, although it adds value to silenced weapons.

Im not digging the enemy showing up on the rader in ths game when they kill a teammate. In 1.6, it takes ALOT of skill to be map aware at all times, including knowing where your teammates are located based on their relativity to you on the rader. When they got killed, their dot just disappeared, and if you wernt paying attention to your rader beforehand, you wouldnt know which dot disappeared and wouldnt know where the enemy's rough location was. its like having the minimap in sc2 show the location of a drop if you spot it with an overlord but failed to notice for a few seconds after you already lost vision of it. Too Nub-friendly.

I'm pretty sure the smokes and graphics can't be hacked, as the graphics and those graphic settings were locked (as far as I knew, only hearsay from people I trust.)

As far as someone mentioning the what I call "nightcrawler effect", where you see a glimpse of them before they actually come out, I think that's mostly from bad rates, as I saw that all the time when I first started playing but once I patched together a good autoexec config, I haven't seen it. (But then I hear people say they see it all the time, and they're all new to the game)

I HATE THE NEW CROSSHAIR. What is all this vibrating, multiple lines and shit? The classic crosshair sucked too because the colors didn't stand out, but when I was streaming someone pointed out that pink is solid as hell.

Are you complaining about pub games or scrim? In scrim, everyone knows everyone's location. Stop acting like OHH NOOO RADAR GIVE AWAY MY LOCATION QQQQQ. It is not that hard to tell your team mate the location of your killer.

What's everyone using for rates?

Force of habit made me change cl_cmdrate 101 cl_updaterate 100 rate 25000, but i'm not sure if those are optimal any more. Noticed that default is 64 instead of 20... will need to look into.

Also, anyone know where to find/if have been made clearwalls versions of the new maps? My spam spots are all off, got zero spam kills on Nuke and D2, which is strange.



@Prime`rib- I find it not to be bad when someone is killed, but spamming and such- gives away your exact position. Not just "he's in t halls" but "he's in back left by the pillar".

Spamming is like improved version of Source spamming. "You can't spam, but some things you kinda can." Actually, on inferno there's some weird shit you can spam through, haha. But typically, I wouldn't depend on it.

As for rates, I use:

cl_cmdrate "128"
cl_updaterate "128"
rate "80000"
cl_interp "0"
cl_interp_ratio "1"


The "default" for public servers is 64, as the servers there are 64 tick. ESEA servers are 102. I think in the future, when servers improve, they'll max out on 128, so I set mine to those. Either way, the server will lock them for you, regardless.

Same thing for rate, the server will set it back down for you, if there's a limit.

I have it in my autoexec folder as well.
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Counter-Strike Global Offensive\csgo\cfg

In that folder, make a notepad file and name it "autoexec.cfg" and then save it in there. When you run the game, type "run autoexec.exe" in console (~) and it'll execute all of those commands for you. Generally you put "exec autoexec" at the end of your config file, but in the beta, as far as I know, it's been bugged.

So in the autoexec, it would look something like this:
cl_crosshaircolor "5"
cl_crosshaircolor_r "255"
cl_crosshaircolor_b "255"
cl_crosshaircolor_g "0"


Or if you're lazy, anyone can PM and I'll send mine to you. =p

It's also good to put rates in here, and specific commands.

for me the biggest problem with the game is that i end up on shitping servers 80% of the time. 2 games i have 250+, 2 games ~150 and the last one is normal at ~50.

I got into the beta through pre-order so I've just played for a little more than 40 hours so far but I really like the game. The crosshair could be a bit more visible in certain situations and hopefully there will be new maps. Never really got into CS before but I will now.

Unlike CoD, there are community-made maps. Tons of them.
Just check out the community servers, which are much better to play on, since you can choose which server to join according to the current map and ping.

*mumblemumble advocate for ESEA mumblemumble* Maps basically suck right now, but I think of it like SC2. A lot of great maps in most games aren't made from the developers, they're made from the community or esport events. Steppes of War anyone? I have a league match this week on dust1, and this is what it reminds me of.
However, Volcano redid nuke, into de_nuke_ve, and it restored faith and reminded me how awesome the 1.6 maps were.
