So far I'm loving this game! Only complaints I have are:

Same maps again? Are they really that good so they can't be replaced?

Ranked play is made wrong in my opinion and should be like this:
Game starts only when there is 5v5.
The teams are made so the combined elo of the teams are about the same.
Ladder score or elo should be given or taken only if you win or lose a map.
You lose the map if you leave the game.
You can't join a game in progress.
You can rejoin a game if you get disconnected.

What is the general team composition for buy rounds in 5x5?

I do listen to music, but I turn it way down so that I can hear footsteps. Best of both worlds. Sadly it doesn't stop me from having terrible aim though.

I would imagine that competitive play will change a bit once everyone's ELO goes live on the 21st (that's my guess).

Finally, could someone with a lot of experience explain the strategy of economy, buy rounds, when to save, when to get or not to get certain weapons from round one on (postol round up)? I have only had a vague understanding of this, and I'm sure plenty of others would be interested.

Depends on the team you're in, my old CSS team generally ran 4 rifles 1 awper (me) on CT and on T it was always map dependent if we'd run with 2, I think in GO running one will be enough because of the cost and the fact you only get a small reward for killing with it.

If it's not designed for ranked play then what is? There's a leaderboard and ELO ranks, so clearly there should be rank play.

In fact, the name "classic competitive" implies that it is for "ranked play".

Casual mode (when Im positive kdr): Speakers on. Music on. Sits back on chair.
Serious mode (when Im 50/50ish kdr): Headphones on. Music still on. Sits straight on chair.
Try hard mode (when Im negative kdr): Headphones on. Music off. Sits forward on chair. Cellphone off. Locks bedroom door.

True story since 2006.

I'm the same except for 2 differences:
1. Casual mode headphones on (my headphones are better than my speakers)
2. Try hard mode my door has no lock :\

I also never go into try hard mode on a server with no password ~

Also footsteps are wonky and really hard to tell distance (I've gotten killed a few times because I thought someone was not where they were running)

- this is probably just your perception. You notice bad players more often in your team then you notice them when you put a bullet in their head.


2 Days is way too harsh, IF there is going to be a timed penalty id say 5-30 minutes would be adequate. However, i think that losing a good chunk of elo would be a better route.I for one have a connection with a mid of its own which likes to restart itself, and i would be quite upset if i got banned for 2 days.

If someone disconnects, im pretty sure you would still get ELO, not them.

Teammates will be teammates, just do your best to communicate and help them out. Do you best not to rage and it'll be fine. Like you said, if you get baddies chances are there are baddies on the other end as well. Either that or you are delusional and you are the baddie.

Im more wondering how elo is going to work when i matchmake with say 2 other friends as opposed to 5. I would be pretty upset if i had a full team of randoms and got stomped by a set of 3 and 2 friends who play with each other a lot and lose the same elo i would otherwise, that just wouldn't be fair. (starcraft im looking at you)

ELO is a skill rating. You do not suddenly become less skilled at CS after leaving a game.

Your idea makes zero sense.

It makes perfect sense, actually. People who want to do well with most certainly care about their elo. And if it gets dropped drastically for leaving, they wont leave if they dont want to get matched with baddies.
And with your logic, just because someone has a higher elo than you they are automatically better than you. That is obviously not true. Elo is a good indication of skill, but it is far from absolute.

No, it makes zero sense. ELO is not known to be biased, i.e. it tends to overestimate your skill equally as often as it underestimates your skill.

Making this change would make ELO downwards biased, systemically underestimating skill.

Basically, you're suggesting that we take a reasonably good skill rating and fuck it up, so that we don't have a good skill rating anymore.

I bought it yesterday, haven't played CS 1.6 since long before source came out, haven't played source more than 5 hours so maybe it's just me, but CS:GO somehow feels wierd. Aiming and movement feels off somehow, though i can't explain how exactly. At first i thought it was the mouse accelleration in the controls but even after turning that off it didn't really improve.

Also, where is the silencer? If the CT rifle - however it is called - would do half the damage and have twice the recoil, i'd still love to have the silencer on it back just because it sounds so much better.

That you-called rifle in 1.6 and Source is M4A1, presumably SOPMOD, and in GO it is now M4A4, that's why there is no silencer anymore.

What is going on with the "dust map" selection where 9 times out of 10 you get a non-dust map? haha I don't understand

Also this game is amazing and such a low price too.
