Ele cleave is dead but ele spectral throw is one of the top builds atm.

The closest thing to ele cleave is Exalton Dual striker atm. But he mainly focus on leech and stuff.

What do you guys think of the new build of the week? Heres the video if you havent seen it. Seems like a pretty good budget build to me imo. + Show Spoiler +http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/929246 Also jstq started working on a legacy all-seasons race ranking website that seems interesting. Zoroxo is on the top of most of the rankings, and i'm 5th overall for burst rankings. :D + Show Spoiler +http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/924967/page/3

I think theoretically the passive trees are basically the same (I guess you'd dump the projectile nodes) but it's just that if you can do cleave you might as well do spec throw because it's much safer and scales with more stuff (hey look LMP/GMP)
Then again, that's just spec throw being a stupidly good skill.

It's not a bad build, but goddamn that is a lot of running around.

That build really looks like fun. I'll look to try it when the next four month leagues come around as a relatively cheap build to start in a new economy, assuming of course the next big updates don't mess with it too much .

Raiz already had 2 high level characters with a similar build in Invasion (both died). Saw it on stream and liked it very much since then. I'm glad he submitted it to Build of the Week because this is one of these builds BotW is made for.
Racing Ladder looks like a cool idea. I didn't expect jstq to do something like that. Usually he is busy complaining about everything.

Hi all,
I was a die-hard D2 player back in the day and D3 didn't conjure up any of that nostalgia that I was after. However, after giving PoE a go, I'm really liking it.
I have a ton of questions of course and I've been googling a ton, but figure I'd ask a few questions here too.
I'm in Ambush league (when can I find start/end dates of leagues?) and have a low level ground slam mara but I'm wanting to make a MF character. So far I've found a summoner guide (Rathik's) that should probably suit what I'm after. Would this be a solid first choice? I'm open to plenty of ideas for MF'ers but I get quite confused with all of the acronyms for builds. I hear summoners are poor/slow levelers and that turns me off slightly.
I absolutely love the currency system that's implemented, though it's quite daunting at first. Is there any cheap useful items that are readily available for a new character? Something like how frostburn gloves or chance guards were very useful and cheap for new players in D2.
I did find a Redbeak sword from a +1700% strongbox O_O that I believe could net a chaos or 2? How would I go about turning this into some useful items for my MF'er? (summoner?)
Any help is much appreciated

Any help is much appreciated I dont remember the exact end date, but I think the leagues still have about 5-6 weeks left? I haven't MF'd in a while so there are others that will be able to answer your questions about that better than I can, but generally summoners are at a very low risk of dying compared to the average build, but they generally have lower damage output, which usually puts them in more of a support role.
I didnt play D2, but there are good twink/leveling items for a lot of builds, it just depends what you are looking for, the wiki is very useful for finding these though. Search here: http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/List_of_unique_items
Redbeak is used by some Righteous Fire builds to "snapshot" the extra damage effect. But otherwise its just a level 1h twink weapon. Pretty sure they only go for about a chaos.
Also, would you like an invite to the guild? If so, I will need the name of one of your characters.

Dunno much about MFers, but Redbeak is pretty much unsellable. Same goes for pretty much every unique you will find, unless really lucky.
Lots of build would be slow to level using their planned skills. There is usually 2 ways to go around it, depending on what you have. 1st is to go for spectral throw, using a bunch of OP-for-their-level uniques (cheap ones), putting some points in damage that you will respec out of once your build is rolling (you get 18 respec points for free completing the 3 difficulties). 2nd is to use spells, which basically just need a "+1 to level of fire/cold/lightning gem" on your weapon and again, some points in spell/elemental damage/cast speed you will respec out of. 2nd is slower, but needs pretty much nothing gearwise, as you can get the +1 lvl mod from level 2 items.
Then there are a bunch of uniques that further helps, depending on the way you choose. Check the list Varanice gave.
As a first character I wouldn't blow my currency on those items, you can enjoy the fresh experience of leveling even if it's rather slow. Of course, once you leveled multiple characters to 80+, even twinked leveling feels painfully slow imo...
|
The most valuable uniques that you can find at a low level are: -Tabula Rasa, which starts dropping at level 1 and is worth about 2-3 exalt. Its a chest with 6x white links. -Dream Fragments, which starts dropping in level 10 zones, and is worth about 1-2 exalt, Ring that gives you freeze immunity. -Meginord's Girdle at level 8, worth about 1 ex. A really good belt for physical damage builds. And Andvarius Gold Ring, but it can only be obtained at low levels by getting luck with a Chance Orb, that goes for 2-6 ex depending on the rolls. The best magic find ring.
Edit: On May 21 2014 23:15 Cynry wrote: As a first character I wouldn't blow my currency on those items, you can enjoy the fresh experience of leveling even if it's rather slow. Of course, once you leveled multiple characters to 80+, even twinked leveling feels painfully slow imo...
Yeah I recommend playing through the game atleast once on Normal before you start buying anything from people just so you can get a general feel for the game, and get a tiny chunk of currency together.

If you do find a Tabula Rasa, I'd advise keeping it. It's a great item which enables some build (you may never find/craft a 6L in thousands of hours of play), allows you to test stuff without worrying about socket colors, and is also a great twinking item to some extent.
Edit : Basically what I do for uniques, is search for their name on poe.xyz.is (which is a must use for trading by the way). If >99 results show up, I don't bother trying to sell.
Also, but that's more taste-dependant, I leveled my first char without looking for much information about the game. It was mostly crap, but with a good mix of defense/offense (which is like 80/20 haha) you can easily get to merciless. From there, I turned it into a "low" level farmer for all my other builds. I'd say it helped a lot. Of course, going straight for a solid build works even better, but I wanted to discover the game by myself.

(Keep in mind that you selected the right league, and also if it has 5 or 6 linked sockets if its a 2 hander or chest.)

It is, but I found that even uniques priced at 1c, which would be worth selling, just don't find buyers because of the sheer quantity available. Maybe I haven't tried hard enough though.
Edit : btw, even if you don't want to join the guild, give your ingame ID, I'd give you the uniques you need. Don't have them all, but still.

Just look at the top line of your search it will tell you "Results found: >99" then you know you either need to tighten the filters or that the item simply won't sell.
