I also have started with a friend this weekend.
Aside from the very first non-hc char, never really played for long and that was before the "new" Act was introduced. So i am obviously not powerleveling or rushing anything.

Lvl 42 and still alive.
I'm Essence Drain Shadow and my Friend is Marauder that uses "Spikes out of the ground attack and some Totemguy that also slams the ground " (yeah, knowledgebombs).
We just beat the Arena/Swordking and then went to the Fireguy... Fire guy shot me, the Arena was small and fire everywhere, it hurt bad, so we left him standing for the night (we would probably have been fine but well

).
I also seem to have some Performance issues (Probably about 2 FPS against last Boss in Act 3 as soon as he spawns his bubble...)

Is there any trick to getting gear? Are there areas you should visit multiple times? Reciepes? Or just hope you find some currency and trade? Or is it too early to get "some decent stuff" and we should just run with the rares that fall before our feet and somehow try to get res capped?

Koam fight can be scary, but he only does a few things. The arena itself is split into 3 parts that at differing times will shoot shit from the side into its portion, you don't want to stand in that. In the last phase I think all 3 of them (or 2 of them?) will shoot. Koams actual attacks are allreally telegraphed and even most have voiceline giveaways too I think :S. Just avoid those. You want a single target skill to take him down but you will need some form of aoe to clear the mobs he spawns throughout the fight.

You usually dont buy gear till early merciless. You can use master crafting or buy an item or so to fix the resistances in the meantime. Haku bench for armor, elreon for jewely is usually the easiest way to fix your resists, you can ask around if you havent leveled them and need someone to craft them for you.

A big portion of Kaom's damage is fire (the archers do cold, but that shouldn't be too big of a deal), so if you get fire res the fight is ezpz. I haven't played much though it seems like essence spawn rate got nuked pretty hard, so not sure if essence crafting ruby rings would be a good idea. You can poke around the guild stash for something that might be an upgrade. It may also be worth looking for some high res uniques in the 1-2 chaos range which make leveling a much more pleasant experience.

seems like having that sheer amount of chaos res and EHP makes it BiS for a lot of builds, kinda like how you can slap skyforth into most builds.

bladeflurry is a broken single target ability (see the relevant diagrams) aided greatly by the fact that it uses the area tag and as such has extra ways to scale poison and can abuse the highest damage support in the game (concentrated effect).

It's AoE is reasonably balanced, it's similar or slightly worse than reave in an AoE clear sense.

I think that's what's amazing about it. It's rare, incredibly hard to get right colors and has crazy potential for wins and fails with even more RNG in its upgrade.
