WTF is with people saying this? Not only are games like torchlight and diablo 2 and diablo 3 the very same as this, but what the hell kind of stuff are you guys picking up? Most of the stuff on the ground is worthless. Whenever inventory is full, it takes less than a minute to portal, sell items, stash items, and return to the area. You people virtual packrats or something? This complaint is analogous to saying the supply cap in Starcraft 2 is too small. It just doesn't really make sense; you're playing the game wrong if that's what you think. I can only assume they are picking up every single white because they think they need more Id scrolls? Don't know haven't ran into this issue personally.

And lets not forget if you get a portal gem then it's a completely moot point as you can port whenever the hell you want with no scrolls involved.

Hey page 100, guess I'll give out another account, if you still need one send me a pm with a short reason why I should pick you. I'll pick the winner tomorrow cause I'm going to bed.

Our website will allow the purchase of many in-game perks and aesthetic upgrades, but all of these are completely optional, and players can have a complete, fulfilling gaming experience without spending a penny. Something can be free to play and still not be worth playing.
Yes I know that thank you very much... If he had said he didn't like the game I wouldn't have pointed it out but he said he found the first 2 hours "pretty good." I don't know of many "pretty good" games that are free (unless you count mobile games). I also think it gets better the more you get into it.

I played for a couple hours and yeah that was my problem and impression of the inventory size. ID scrolls were scarce. Oh you found an armor upgrade but can't use it until you ID it? And now it takes up precious invetory space if I want to save it for later. You also have to reconsider the gems slots as well for core skills that you use in combat so you go back to town and stash it because it lacks a certain color gem slot etc etc. Item management can be fun because it's something to do, but this is too tedious (like Diablo 2) for my tastes.
The game is solid but there are a lot of tweaks to be done. The visceral feeling of combat is lacking and it feels stiff. The annoying barter system and tedious item/gem managment can be better. Because of that the overall game flow is wonky depending how you approach the game.
D3 is constantly revising it's game flow that consists of item management, how often you go to town, combat skill rotations, combo incentive reward system, crafting, etc. during beta and I feel like it's way better crafted, dynamic and more enjoayble than POE. Yeah you can argue POE wins with customization, but I don't really care for that illluision because once you start optimizing for end game or PvP, options start to narrow down anyways.
Overall POE has an old school feel to it that I thought I would love to revisit, but now it feels a bit outdated after playing D3 back to back with this. Some tweaks can go a long way though, and I think it can use some substractive deisgn for some of it's bloated systems and tedious procedures. I'd play retail if it came out a year ago.

I think a lot of it has to do with not playing for long enough. The combat graphic is something they have on their very long todo-list and it is a personal preference. If you do not like it, the game might not appeal to you even later on. The ID scroll-problem created a fuss in the closed beta as soon as the sale-system was implemented. Now ID scrolls drop twice what it did at that point... Yes, it is a bit of a restrain in levels 1-15 if you are not used to how to use them sparsely, but if you level higher it will get a lot better and you will start to focus on the socket-layout of an item. That goes into the next point: The socket-situation is, I agree, pretty hard to understand though not even close to certain other aspects. It needs a tutorial which is something they are working on. The passive forest is not as big a deal as some make it. It is huge, but you only choose so many of the passives. It is not what will make you play the game forever. Please be aware that the game is not even close to as dynamic as the developers intend it to be yet. I still use 5 skills for each class and I even switch them at points. Again, it is about experience and if you do not like the combat-system I do not think you will get to these points.

If you already have beta access, just send a pm to Chris, he's generally really nice about passing out an extra key or two for friends.
For the lack of ID scroll people, you know you can turn portal scrolls into id scrolls right? This helps a lot during the early game like lvl 1-10 before you start swimming in scrolls.

And the winner is Yuljan! Enjoy your beta, information has been sent to your inbox.

I got a key very early in the beta from the random draft when the game was still unknown before the half million others signed up, and they used to give you friend invites, and these new accounts got friend invites after awhile as well, also there were early ladder races and events that passed out keys as prizes, so I had 5 for me (+wife and 3kids all play), 3-4 I used for friends, so when ever a new wave of friend invites came I would get ~10keys. I've given out close to 50keys on various sites.
|
Wow that's pretty cool lol. lucky you!
|
Ive been signed up for beta since july 2011 and still no invite. Played all weekend and all the events. loved it, would like to see it progress as a game.
A beta key would would be greatly appreciated
|
I'd love a beta key as well if someone got one. I was just getting into the groove of things when the stress test ended.
|
So I got 2 beta keys left and 30people messaging me for them, so here's how I'm gonna do it, best suggestion on a contest to give a key out wins one beta and the winner of the suggested contest gets the other.
|
Since this is TL, the contest could be "what would be your favourite starcraft ability to be added to PoE and how would you use it."
edit: maybe the other way around would make more sense ^^
|
A contest idea: Think of a new type of 'orb' (i.e orb of alchemy).
