When you jumped + jetted in T1/T2 you were able to get much higher in the air, even from a standstill, than you could in T:V. You absolutely needed a disc jump or hill to get that vertical momentum going. It also made it much harder to get up hills, because if you dare hit your frictionless ski key you'll just slide right down. With the bunny hopping system you could sorta hop/jet up the hill faster. getting worried The main problem with TV jetting that bugged me was the loss of jump jetting. Replacing jump for a built in "ski" key as the spacebar was ridiculous and it made takeoff times much slower. On top of that, flight velocity as a whole was much lower in TV T_T

Tribes 2 and Supreme Commander are games I really get nostalgic about. Hope they hit this new Tribes really good, maybe they could put in some skiing tutorial on how to make a flag route etc for new players. I mean, SC2 would be dead if it wasn't for the great community helping people get better, to find new ways to do things all the time.

I remember as a kid watching my older brother playing this awesome demo he got from his PC Gamer subscription, where he could fly around and shoot shit. I was amazing. I remember reading through ALL of the PC Gamer issues he had (from 2001 t0 2004) looking for more information about that game. Apparently it was called "Tribes" and it was the most epic, massive, flying around FPS with the most complex clan teamplay there has ever been for an online shooter. I remember dreaming about playing it, wanting to try so bad. But we lost the CD, never got the game, and I didn't hear of it again. That was until I found this thread. Thank you TL for rekindling my passion for this game, and now I'm old enough to buy and play it as much as a I want (:

At 15 I was running a clan called zX and running practices and coordinating strategies and competing in whatever the premier league was at the time. (OGL maybe? Something like that). Tribes 2 was a huge disappointment for me. Of course it didn't help that my computer couldn't run it. I should play it again some time but it would be tough to find all the necessary scripts I imagine. Well nowadays the only mod tribes 2 is played on is classic. The idea of the mod was to help make it more like tribes 1, and while its not the same its fast and with some of the fun stuff of T2. Currently there is a draft tourney going on, I'm not sure if you can still sign up for the late draft where subs are pulled from.

Tribes was 7v7 MINIMUM. And tbh the only mode that plays 5v5 is arena, and I find that pretty dull This is gonna be one of the biggest things HR has to do, build potential for a fun and competitive game on different levels. Pro teams simply cannot be expected to hold more than 6 players on a salary, with a decent scene, and the pro player pool cannot support a good roster of teams of 12 each. There needs to be a mainstream 5v5 or 6v6 mode for the game for pro-play, as well as a good, well balanced 12v12 classic mode (which is what they've been demoing so far) I think it's certainly possible to do a good 5v5 mode, whether that's CTF or something else I don't know.

Honestly I don't see how they can in CTF, and lets face it, non ctf tribes is boring to most people. If you made it 5v5 thatd be 1 guy for flag d 1 guy for gen d, 1 guy to cap, 1 guy to rape, and 1 other person to do whatever. And if you went the other way around you would have 1 farmer 1 capper 1 HO 1 HD 1 LD and a farmer...Honestly I just don't see 5v5 CTF working. 5v5 arena on the other hand works just fine.

According to TB they listen to feedback from a competitive perspective (TB gave the feedback that competitive players thought the weapons were too big and according to him they said that they would do something about that) but an esport is probably too much for a relatively small company

There can still be tournaments at 8vs8 imo, it just gets expensive to send big teams around. No one should play Tribes and expect to be getting salary. Very few games ever get big enough, even if they have a lot of LANs, to support salaried players.

They were very receptive to the idea.

Now if only they'll let us increase the FOV....But to be honest my personal opinion on tribes is that it makes a great competive game and a bad esport game. Mostly due to the team sizes, but the action can get pretty hectic at times.

FoV was pretty good in the demo I got to play tbh and I'm usually fairly sensitive on the subject of FoV. But that's not even close to the biggest issue with the game ~_~ So how about you tell us what is? Personally, I've actually played it and it's pretty solid.
