Which is why i want to know the console commands for things like showing packet loss etc. My favorite play so far (as a heavy) was standing on top of my flag, bunny hopping up and melee-ing the runner at the exact time that he grabbed the flag. The only thing is I am pretty sure I hit the melee button well before he was anywhere close to the flag stand. Either the melee attack has insane active frames or there is still some oddities in the netcode. Anyhow, I really wish there was replays or something similar to make frag movies easy to create. I hate running screen capture software and/or streaming cuz I can't get 120 fps on my rig while doing so.

There is like no velocity inheritance, you can basically fly faster than a spinfusor you shoot if you are moving fast -_- (well it might be 20% but still horrible)
Hitscan weapons are really starting to be exposed as extremely abusive, (ranger rifle).
If Hi-Rez makes some good decisions in beta this game could be a great competitive game, if they make bad decisions it will be a complete flop. I'm excited to see which it will be, (but hopefully not the latter)

Should I try my best to learn how to do the disks better or should I keep trying to use this hitscan rifle? I didn't catch what he said exactly on stream but is it competitive or just for newbs that rifle?
|
i hope to god they make the spinfusor the all around best weapon again. it was the bread and butter for every game even through vengeance, if they make a newb friendly gun thatll annoy me to some degree. I disliked chaingun for that reason, but if you were semi decent with the spinfusor you would always beat a good chaingunner.
|
no, that's not how weapons work.
there were better times to disc, and better times to use the cg. you didn't have to use one or the other.
nor is it true that a good discer would always beat a good cger.
|
alright fine, i didnt mean to say always. mid-long distance aerial fights were the chainguns territory, but from my experience the disc launcher was in general the more solid weapon to use in a duel
|
Raider still has the op smg, assault rifles are super newb friendly and even better in the hands of someone good and the sniper is still really good even with the crap scope. The best players I've seen so far really took the hitscan weapons to a whole new level of insanity. There were like 3 flag caps because the hitscan spam and snipers would just chip the flag guy down even if he was moving insanely quick.
|
I think its silly what I have to do to play the game. clicking on whatever the thing is after e-mailing (I'm color blind in yellow) and then launching it from there is just werid.
|
So before I try to get a beta code or throw down some money if I can't get one, does anybody know if T:A has Asia servers and/or where they are located? Or, since I don't have much experience with it, what kind of pings you can get from China->SEA servers?
|
there are oceania and australia servers. don't know their location aslo there is europe and usa east/west coast servers

A lot of named tribes players are deliberately spamming the AR and sniper and completely and utterly dominating all games.
I'm not even a good sniper, i miss so much, the scope is fucking shit and has no zoom, but hitscan in an uncovered map is totally redic

A lot of named starcraft players can only use marines/zealots/zerglings and get into master league. At the moment there is little to no skill segregation, it's like putting unrestricted high level masters players in a free for all with bronze-gold leaguers and complaining that they win with zerglings too much so zerglings are OP.
I play on AU servers. 80% of games are 7-10 players a side, with at least 4 competent players (consistent with the sniper rifle, consistent 175kmph caps, consistent chasedowns on caps that fast, regular midairs etc.) per side. I see a sentinel once every 5 games or so, and they're never dominating in these games, often not even performing that well, even when played by very skillful players. the only games I see them in constantly is 4v4 or lower where they can snipe with no pressure and easy predictions, or in 16v16 where they can hide in a corner and farm noobs or farm claymores for kills. The same sentinels I see do this and easily top the server by a significant amount in these formats are usually something like second last in an 8v8 game.

Yeah, I've had that disrupt quite a few >200 kph grabs...most of the time it can be fixed with teamwork, but that's just in pugs. I'm sure league play will bump it up a notch or 19. That being said, does anyone else find Drydocks annoying? Grabbing a flag at high speed, then dodging the 184 different scaffold beams (or going up hill for 10 seconds straight, take your pick), only to trip on one of those damned 1cm tall "terrain features". That's not even mentioning how the map is basically a giant bowl, with hardly no midfield hills to gain speed on. The few terrain variations down at the bottom have abrupt edges with rocks.
It's not that I mind a challenge, it's just....the other maps all teach players to use x style, then this map loads...and it just. feels. so. damn. slow.

Most games the hitscan is not a problem because people in general aren't aces with them and nearly everyone is an easy target for explosives without ever having to mid air them.
However, the games I played with "abuse" made me realize why old school players would complain. The game feels totally different when a flag runner can't avoid the hitscan. There is such little cover and you have to spend considerable time in the air. So this isn't 1 pro running shop on a bunch of noobs, this is like teams of old school guys just shutting each other down hard with hit scan. It doesn't even have to be a team filled with rangers and sentinels. Just a couple of each can do it if they are positioned well.
Any normal setup with sentinels and rangers trickled in means the flag runner needs his normal support plus a 2nd dude to pass the flag to when he gets ripped up by bullets while he is in the air. I think it really is just that with both explosives and hitscan extremely viable, you have no safe time while running. On the ground you are liable to get your face exploded and in the air you are easy hitscan bait. You don't even need to midair someone.

Yeah I guess with better coordinated pushes focusing the flag guy would be less likely to happen, or at least happen successfully.
I think Drydocks is actually fine, but most players use almost exclusively the middle path or sometimes they go around the mountain. I've been finding that the very edges of the map have some nice height to them to give you a speedy route even though they are farther. Perhaps the "bowl" design is just slowing down people's approach to the map.

I don't know what to think of this game, it's OK I guess after having played it for a couple of hours and I can't deny it's potential. Hate the tokens system though, 10k tokens to unlock a new class? rofl

Anyone looking for an Aus/NZ scene should check out http://www.bittah.com. They;re large enough that they also get beta key hand outs too.
Sorta been sandbagging the idea of playing Tribes again. Really enjoyed T1 and even some T:V, but for some reason I'm hesitant to try another game. I'm sure I'll give it a go sooner or later.

right, since nobody seems interested in doing stuff for keys, I have no choice but to.... give them out freely!
Let's start with 5. Same drill as always, take the top one that is available, post if you use one. register if you haven't already. These are designed to help build the TL T:A community, so join in!

good luck! I have plenty more so you can always PM me if you miss out and are really keen ^^
