Rome being the third oldest of the series may sound bad but Brood War is still one of the greatest RTS games ever made and all this time hasn't changed it. RTW is a fantastic game.
Shogun 2 for $7.50 is a good deal. It's enjoyable although imo not as great as RTW and M2TW.
Basically, all the true expansions for TW games are must have. Barbarian Invasion for RTW, Kingdoms for M2TW; absolutely needed. Where it gets murky is the DLC. A lot of them are just stupid reskins on old units with tweaked stats-not worth more than $0.25
The collection of Shogun 2 TW games for only 20$ is a really good deal. Fall of the Samauri is good fun, RotS is kinda crap but eh I guess worth $2.50 and S2TW is definitely worth $7.50
I didn't know Napoleon tw was a standalone. Should I bother with Empire at all then? I'm thinking of getting Napoleon and the Shogun 2 pack. A friend of mine has M2 and i could probably torrent or buy Rome later if I'm enjoying the series.
Regarding graphics, it's not a big deal to me I mostly play bw myself lol, but all things being equal i'd rather have the better graphics. I don't know anything about the turn based aspect of these games and I thought that's what the game was mostly about, so i'm kinda surprised no one is commenting about them. I guess it's all fairly the same throughout the series? All I know is that they introduced navel combat with Empire.

The time periods that interest me most are the Roman era and the Napoleonic wars. However, from what i gather a lot of people don't seem to like Empire TW. Is it purely due to the gunpowder combat style?
I'd go for Rome then but it's also the oldest in the series (not including the first two games) so it has less appeal for me both graphically and considering the amount of money i can save (shogun 2 is almost a steal at $7.50).
btw are there any expansions that are must haves?
If you get Rome, get Barbarian Invasion but don't bother with Alexander. Not too up to date for the others. Napoleon/Empire play a bit differently, partially the gunpowder/naval combat. Especially Empire felt overly complicated to me, whereas Rome was fun to manage campaign wise. I would get either Medieval 2, Shogun 2 or Rome if I were you. I don't mean to flood the thread with TW discussion but Alexander is good BUT since almost all mods use BI or vanilla then it's ultimately unnecessary. And you're going to want to use mods with RTW lol.
Barbarian Invasion adds: Shield wall Certain units can swim
Alexander adds: Working Phalanxes (they're very bugged in vanilla) .. uh something else can't think of it.

it has no player base, you can get into top 50 without knowing anything when you just produce workers coninuously. There would only be a handful of people who could challenge a sc or aoe2 player.
Also, skyrim on its way to be in the topsellers for 1 whole year.
a word opf warning on heroes 5 bundle since it got mentioned. its off 33% and all individual games are off 75%.

warlock master of the arcane is on flash sale, its a turn based majesty with AI opponents. It is a mix between elven lagacy and civ 5, meaning that there are some empire building aspects, but its mostly focused on units, their upgrades and combat. The AI lacks a lot of thought, but the gameplay is fun enough to make it worth it 7 euro, especially for majesty fans.
If you set the difficulty to hightest and view AI opponents as addidional monster lairs, it really is majesty 2 in turn based mode with 3 playable factions.

Sounds like it could be fun still, I'm a sucker for civ-like games, although I thought Civ5 was quite bad compared to 4.

it doesnt have multiplayer, but the developer is working on it and has a working beta build for it. It doesnt play like civ, city building is quite simplified. Its not like civ 4 at all.
if you want something like civ 4, galactiv civ 2 and all expansions is down to 7 euro. (but the game is focused on AI, no multiplayer)

Steam is killing my wallet
In good news, I didn't have Portal 2, I got it for like £3. Completely worth it if you don't have it. A couple of the bundles look to be great value (whichever one it was with Assassins Creed Revelations particularly).
If Deus Ex Human Revolutions is still on Flash sale that's got to be WELL worth the £4 or whatever it was.

I would like CODMW3 to drop lower as well as arma2, but is there any good FPS out there thats worth the sale? What games on sale today are worth to get?!

The Star wars bundle is looking damn fine as I don't have any of those games. Star Wars: The Old Republic is the best RPG of this decade. The Jedi Knight games are also pretty solid. You mean Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Jedi Knight has like best multiplayer ever, but idk if its still getting played, so many memories with that game xD, are there battlefront in boundle ? If so its worth. EDIT1: Yep, SW one looks good.
You mean Academy...

How good is galactive 2? I get the civ comparisons, but is it as good as the high reviews say? Thanks. Also is the stardock requirement a one time thing or do you have to start the stardock launcher every time to play? Wondering if I can run through steam.

It has good mechanics to stop you from spamming colonies (cities) - like in civ they cost you more than they produce early on. Every civ has their own tech tree and strengths. combat is based on rock paper scissor, there are 3 damage types and 3 defence types. You can (and have to) create your own ships, you can even design their appereance them if you care. Plantes have between 5-20+ slots where you can build improvements like in civ games, but you dont work tiles. There are however asteroids to exploit, special planet boni and special ressources in space that you have to conquer and hold to get a bonus. Combat is also automatic like in civ. AI is a challenge, even at non-cheating difficulties.
i cant see glaring flaws with this game, its at least as fun as civ4 imo.
If you happen to buy it, they changed the combat system in the later expansions in a way that the first campaigns difficulty is vastly increased, skip it and play the latest campaign if you want to play campaign, because the latest campaign starts as if a new player would play the game, not a veteran that allready played for 2 years-
Arma 2...i doubt they go lower. People buy the game nayways for the dayZ mod, so why would they lower the price to half amd lose money?

As far as I know I'm far from the only one as well, several people I know irl are doing the same at least lol.

Dungeons of Dreadmor, The Binding of Isaac for a whopping $4.48!! Good shit!
Also, anyone have any thoughts of Divine Divinty for $3.99, theres alot of comparions to D2, but is D2 just a better game than DD? Im burnt out on D3, and would like something to replace it if possible.
Thanks gang! happy shopping!
