I'm in the south east quadrant. EDIT: finally have a palisade wall, fucking 4 hours later. This map thread is awesome. Found myself on it after going NNE for 4-5 hours from the new village(with Frosty, midg, potatoe, echo, etc.). Was a cool feeling. Was hard as hell though. Ha So I guess we're in the SSE SSW area? Maybe close..
using coordinates of [-5, 5] for both X and Y on that world map, I am almost exactly 4, -3

Crap ... found a bear west of the village... Found him with my new char too...

so what are the state of affairs with the towns? i went solo for a bit, ended up being taken in by some H&H vets, so if your ever around the Stin empire, look for me. I'm also interested in making an alt so if anyone wants to pm me their hearth I'd like to join and help with that town as well.

how many active players does each village have?
I'm having a fun time playing just with my girlfriend, and we just got our palisade walls up. but its slow going just the two of us.

we have about 7 to 8 active people atm, in the side town near liquida. We can still suport some more, cuz we have lots of food.
/W me if you want the hearth secret

Was looking today as well and found us. At least my part isn't updated. So it's somewhat safer since it won't attract as much attention.

Wow you guys are pretty mich as far away from Liquidia as you can possibly get.

can someone from TastyTreats' village PM me or post where they are on the world map?

Do you want to learn skills 360% faster, or 40%as fast as when you first start out?
Changing any belief will set your tradition/change one tick toward change. For this reason, start off by setting your beliefs toward peaceful (20% learning when maxed) and you will also gain one tick toward change(300% when maxed) the 20% receives the 300% modifier as well, resulting in 3.6 times the progress. If you die, you lose most of your skills though. So play carefully.
You also can change your beliefs more frequently with max change. another huge plus.
Edit: The beliefs are a sliding scale, so if you are 1 tick toward peaceful and 1 tick toward change, you will have something like 140% learning ability.
The benefit to tradition is retaining 75% skill points when you die, and also you receive more "numen" when making sacrifices to your ancestors for special prayer power. Basically, always choose peaceful/change when starting, and once you have a ton of stats and are going to start fighting/risk dying, gradually change your change slider toward tradition.
Edit2, the 75% retention is still inaccurate. When you die, you lose half your stats, but higher stats cost more. So you effectively lose 3/4 of your learning points spent on survival if you go from 30 survival to 15 survival (50% learning point retention on death, assuming a neutral slider) at 25% retention, you lose 15/16 of the learning points spent on actual skills.
Can anyone verify that my math isnt off?

You will lose more LP when you die, so it's pretty much high risk - high reward.

A lot more.
Skills cost 100 x level
so its 100 + 200 + 300 .....+3900 +4000 to get level 40 of something. Going from level 40 to level 20 means you lost (2100 + 2200 ...3900 + 4000) and only keep (100 + 200 ...+1900 + 2000)
You just lost 3/4 of all learning points spent with "50%" reduction in skills. at 75% loss(full change), you end up with 1/16 of the points you earned upon death.
Hopefully you have some high quality items stashed away to make grinding up the learning points on a new character a lot faster than the first time around.

More edits:
Just an idea, but apparently you retain a claim if you inherit from that character. and learning points from claims are fully refunded.
If you were to dump learning points into the size of your claim, they would essentially be risk free investments. okay, more like a 0% interest savings account.
6.25% learning points vs 56.25% learning points on death. 10 times the loss for 3 times the gain.
