The L96 is better at medium range for an aggressive recon playstyle (the perfect rifle for that actually) because of the larger ammo capacity and better reload time (I like how the rifle feels too at small to medium ranges), and the M98B is the best sniper rifle for long range sniping, because of the small bullet drop (and previously higher dmg, but I think it got patched).

He keeps making the same point "It's not cod. They took out the team play" without ever actually explicitly stating what particular facets of the game he says lead him to this conclusion. This was pretty much a waste of time to listen to as I don't know the basis for his criticism...

The Dark Lord of Mordor bids you greetings, and has ordered me here to inform you of Mordor's position on Battlefield 3. Our position is that BF3 has failed to be a true successor in the following ways, and we advocate that DICE, since they have several different series going at once, alternate between the style of play the BF3 brought, which is vastly different from Battlefield, and a true BF successor game. In other words, we know many people like BF3, but there are plenty of us that want a true BF successor. We believe DICE can satisfy both groups, though NOT with the same game. Trying to do it in the same game is not the way. The main issues weighing on the mind of Mordor are these:
1. Time to kill and Time between kills(or time between firefights in general) BF3 has brought gameplay that is too fast paced and emphasizes the wrong things. Note: This does not mean anyone is suggesting super slow gameplay either. BF was always about middle ground and now is not. 2. Lack of teamwork tools and game factors that discourage teamplay Pretty self explanatory, but the most egregious examples include lack of in-game VOIP and a non-functional commo rose. It doesn't stop there. 3. The general tendency towards lock-on weapons and press-button countermeasures, instead of skill based solutions This one is obvious. 4. Casualizations in general 5. Poor map design Maps too small, flags packed...there's pages and pages to say but not yet. 6. Art design and direction Examples include blinding sun, the blue hued tribute to Eiffel 65, and more. 7. Vehicle Physics and Vehicle Customizations 8. Unlocks and Points The game relies on unlocks and stats to create fun rather than gameplay.
Pages and pages of comments could be said on these issues, but this is an icebreaker from Mordor, intended to get the ball rolling. Remember, as I said above, Mordor is not seeking the end of BF3 style games in the BF series, but to make sure that true BF successors are alternated with DICE's anti-CoD products.
Also, in anticipation of "but you guys must want carbon copies of BF2", that is a false rumor. We would start with BF2 as a base, that's true, but there would be many changes, such that the game would be much improved, but it would not become BF3, either. For example, while Mordor is agreed that time to kill in BF3 is too low, we do not intend that it be raised by having BF2's random deviation. There are other ways, and the ultimate goal is a middle ground betweem BF2 and BF3, with the ultimate aim of having larger maps with tactical and strategic options, instead of meatgrinds, and gameplay that complements this.
TEAMPLAY- Leader Positions - Squad Leader (SL) spawn only with SL deployable spawn - Commo Rose - Full size overview map. Proper colors and clearly visible. Interactive; can make/see orders. - Multiple functional VoIP channels. Squad internal channel, SL channel, vehicle internal channel, temporary Close Air Support (CAS) channel; Squad leader can temporarily talk to pilot of supporting aircraft, etc - Order System. Absolutely not the failed BFBC2 socialize button. BF2 style system with more wavepoints than just a straight line. Orders show on mini-map. SLs only can see orders of other squads. - Ridiculous star over enemy SL removed - Customizable HUD. 3-zoom mini-map. Can see the name, kit type, health, VoIP icon, and ammo status of other squad members. Dual Screen support - able to piece together situational awareness modules on a second screen. VoIP icon would be crossed out if player does not have operational microphone and players VoIP icon would light up when they speak. - Regenerative Health would be removed. Medic would be the primary health source for infantry. Engineer would be the primary repair source for vehicles.
"Conquest mode" should be given back to the Battlefield Veterans in BF3: (default settings) - Squad Leader only spawn - 3D spot off - Audio Auto-spot removed - Enemy Squad Leader star removed - skull & crossbones icon removed - Kill cam off - Infantry & vehicle regenertive health off - Sniper scope glint removed
Recommendation for Future DLC Maps for BF3 - Bigger playable area - More control points - Strategic value due to terrain and/or spawning equipment - More space between control points
How is BF3 between ArmA and CoD? BF and CoD are arcade, ArmA is simulation. They're on complete different ends of teh spectra. O_O not only that but flying through trees just stops your jet, you can revive people shot in the face with defib or with a tank shell, soldiers can sprint with pounds and pounds of ammo... etc. etc. BF3 is an ARCADE shooter that lets you use vehicles. not a simulation and it shouldn't be compared to ArmA ever because when you actually look at the mechanics of the game it definitely is more cartoon than real life IMO
that guy is just literally dumb for a lot of what he said after that as well imo
Ive been using the AEK-971 with a reflex scope, fore grip, and a heavy barrel and been pretty happy with it. Fully auto sucks if you get in a tense close range battle with the heavy barrel climb. But its nice because I feel like that gun isnt the best at accuracy long range.
The M16A4 is the other one I use a lot, but I dont like that it doesnt have full auto.

I use the M16A3 with the KOBRA (RDS), foregrip, and silencer.
Many "professionals" use this loadout, and you can call me out for simply following them if you want, but hey, I'm just trying to learn from the best. Shooting in bursts of five bullets or so (with full auto on), this gun is really accurate and kills pretty darn fast at medium range. At longer ranges, it's still very accurate if you put it on semi-auto. It's rate of fire/damage isn't as good as some other guns for short range though.
Overall, I find it's greatest strength to be its accuracy at mid-long range. As long as you can control your fire in short bursts, it should kill very quick.
I'm assuming not many people from TL play this game consistently anymore. Is there some way the remaining people here can efficiently 'friend' each other and play together online?

I play daily for the most part and yes, it is very dead as far as TL people goes, I go onto the little group page and always friend anyone with green around them (means there online), which is actually kinda rare to see one online. lol Add me though and anyone else who gets on regularly, my ID is mathew_1942 and I am in need of battle buddies. Yeah I felt that the M16 lineup pack less punch than the AEK, ive had a hard time using silencers because the M16 is weak enough as it is, and that just makes it weaker.
I dont like really long range engagements. Im a more mid/mid long range (as far as what i feel most comfortable with). Um I play BF3 on XBL, does that change anything from any of my previous posts?

M16 and AEK do the same damage, M16's spread pattern is better and easier to control than the AEK. The AEK only has a higher rate of fire than the M16 making it easier to win close combat fights. The silencer doesn't hurt damage significantly enough to not use it. Right now there is almost no reason not to use foregrip/silencer.

Tennet has it right. M16A3 has very good stats in all departments. Fastest Reload speed is underrated, but it wins you fights. Easy & constant spread pattern makes the gun easily controlled. The recoil is also pretty much non-existent for a Assault Rifle.
There's a reason why its voted the best Assault Rifle in the game. Other guns may beat it in certain departments, but they all come with considerable drawbacks may in recoil etc. M16A3 is the overall powerful weapon in all situation.

Operation complexity. It used to be on the middle ground now it is too close to CoD. You dont need to be ArmA to have some operation Complexity. It used to have integrated teamplay tools, with some arcade features. The only strategical game doesnt need to be ArmA and arcade doesnt mean there should be no complexity.

Agreed, and with all the other changes that are proposed so far with the patch notes, looks like there's only going to be M16s running around. Similar concept with the M4 and the Engineer class.
I guess I've grown tired of the game that I've stopped playing after grinding out all the unlocks. If DICE really wanted to promote variety of guns/attachment, they shouldn't have made one gun that basically outshines almost every other gun/attachment in that class. The attachment change might promote variety, the proposed gun changes so far will not.
Can't wait to see what there announcing or doing this week, would be great to get in game chat with everyone but I doubt that's it, hopefully they at the very least throw out that patch, would be nice to see some big changes. Still loving the B2K maps though they seem to bring a ton of entertainment compared to the original batch. I want 1942 maps back though, Wake Island is nice and all but there were some real gems in that game which is sadly near death atm. So few people are ever on except like one good server which is perpetually full.

We should make another platoon
I'll add you mathew_1942!
We really should, those platoons that are up consist of people that rarely get on, not to mention that Toronto server is dead and the other server always has showed me a 404 page. Need a platoon for ONLY active players that get on nearly every day so we can all get in the same server and get in the built in chat together. edit-Awsome dude! Need wayyyy more friends in BF3, atm its only 3 people! TT
