I haven't heard about any major plans for modifications of single player for the beta release, but certainly there are major plans for it during the beta lifecycle.

Is the server gonna reset with the start of beta, or can we keep the current world Reset, however my new hardware allows for me to keep the current server running as well and I may be able to add cross-server chat so people can finish up their stuff on the current server without feeling isolated... though I believe there will be a fair amount of people finishing up work on the current server. The next planned reset is retail, though keep in mind patches may cause resets in between (such as the Boo Update and server hardware upgrades did - beta was the only planned reset). The reason for the reset is additional features being implemented, which hopefully includes health (but depends whether or not Notch fixes it this week). There are also fixes to the durability bug and duping/hacking, which means the value of items like diamond and iron are going to skyrocket (even moreso if health and armor are implemented). Needless to say, that's all rather pointless without a fresh start. I will be releasing more info in the coming days (just bought a giant cork board to post all my stuff on, and will be having a mod meeting in a few days) but some quick tidbits: Minecarts and whatnot will be enabled from the get go (pending any issues with the beta patch), which means transportation will be vastly easier this time around. And since transportation is easier, I feel the map should be larger. Probably somewhere in the area of 5-10x the size of the current map to start out with. I'm also hoping to enable lava and tnt, but no promises yet. Still planning some things I can't mention yet, but basically you can consider this server in beta at the moment, and consider it gold when it comes back up following the path. Or maybe diamond?

Mining is fun right now, just going nuts with diamond gear, it's gonna be a chore again when I have to go down with hundreds of stone tools Echo caves would just be unrealistic to recreate.

What kind of internet system are you on? It sounds like it could be a router port that needs to be forwarded or something. Online communication isn't a simple process, and all games don't use the same system. What works in one game has no credence to what will or will not work in another game. It's kind of unlikely that it's your PC net card in my opinion.

My only request is that we get an updated map of this world before it gets wiped

It's really hard to troubleshoot Minecraft issues like this that are so generic. As the above poster said, I'd try to make sure it's not your router. If possible, can you hardwire your computer directly into the modem? You could also try http://www.formspring.me/MojangSupport or emailing Notch. I'll keep looking, though. I don't really have the time to PM everyone who joins... generally people just try logging in, or ask me on IRC if they're unsure. Sorry for the confusion. On December 12 2010 22:06 Psiven wrote: I'd have to say I'm not looking forward to health / fixed durability, but I'm all for trying something new. On the other hand, I don't see how transportation will be easier if the price of iron skyrockets. Minecarts and minecart tracks are not cheap by any means, and I can't imagine a useful rail network on a map five times the size of current. My only request is that we get an updated map of this world before it gets wiped Will get a map up for sure. As for Minecarts, I think it will work out great. Sure, it's going to take some time... but what else are you going to use iron for? People will be digging like crazy for cobble and diamond, so iron will be a large biproduct of that. I'd say within about a week we will have most of the major hubs set up and functional. It all depends on how many people are playing, though. As you know, the majority of people stopped playing after the Boo Update introduced bugs like block respawning. Now that Notch has gotten all of that stuff taken care of, the game runs great so I'd expect people to start coming back. As for health, I have a solution for people who don't want it. It's not perfect, but it may work well enough to ease them into health at some point.

There will be monsters in a few weeks, hopefully. They work, but are extremely buggy right now so it depends on whether or not they get fixed in this upcoming patch.
