Too bad MB is miles away from being an actual deck. Hey I have all these kill spells, stares down at hexproof and more than one creature. Man close game 1, let me look at sideboard, more kill spells and surgicals. >.<
It needs to duals to be good, but once RTR comes in some pretty good black cards rotate out.

Depends on what's in R2R. If we get a cheap removal spell there or it somehow slows the format down by a lot MBC could be a deck. MB zombies is already a deck, though they're known to splash blue or red (red's better IMO). They really don't mind mutilate with a bunch of messengers and blood artists out, it's basically just a better Killing Wave. The only rotating cards they normally run are Go for the Throat and Mortarpod (which has been phased out lately but I don't know why).
They do have Barter in Blood and, for now, Geth's Verdict to kill off Hexproof. Mutliate will do the job too.

No, no you really don't. MBC is not a deck until something like Coffers is reprinted. The problem is that the balance MB needs to find for its kill spells is harder than it was for UB control (since Blue offers ways of smoothing out your draws and hands, or in other words options). MB Zombies isn't a deck, Zombie Pod is a deck. The primary offenders of turn 2 flipped Delver, turn 3 Geist isn't solved by your Barters or Geth's Verdict. You have 0 ways of interacting favorably with Moorland Haunt or their equipment. Being black limits the way you can attack certain decks.
The biggest boon to Black right now is Duress. Gavin V did an article (with the appropriate level of inevitability) on MBC just today; the curve is ass.
Also, Messenger is not a MBC card, not even close.

I would say that Mind Sludge is a bigger piece than Coffers. But I would also say that both are needed for MBC to become a deck. Nantuko Shade would also help a lot, but I guess Grave Titan can perform a similar role, but that's rotating too.

Ghost Quarter has proven pretty useful in my board against moorland haunt. Black sun can be decent at times, but usually they just get out of range faster than I can get enough mana.
I'm liking the inclusion of vampire nighthawk (especially with mana leak cycling soon), but I anticipate seeing a whole bunch of essence scatter which may make the point moot.
I completely agree about the lack of board, which has proven to be a pretty serious issue obviously. I've been tinkering around trying to find some sort of artifact cards to use in the board, and have been using porcelain legionnaire to some minimal effect.
I like the new card Primal Clay, which seems to be a 4 mana answer for a turn (which in mbc is pretty useful, as a 5 mana BSZ or mutilate is usually enough to wipe the board)
I really really like MB, but especially with akroma's memorial about to see a reprint it looks like it's not worth my time.
I have used BW zombie pod, it's pretty awesome.
edit; these grixis control decks that are popping up seem to be really awesome, do you have any experience with them jud?

No, I played against a few, thought they were pretty durdly. There were lists built to beat Delver before M13 and I don't know why you would want to play Grixis right now (based on the cards I saw people running).

You realize both of those cards were good due to Coffers right?
Edit:
Really need a delete post option on TL :\

I've been looking into possible getting the new Magic game on Steam (Duel of the Planeswalker 2013). If anyone has it, can you answer the following question:
How does online work? Is there matchmaking and a ladder? Does everyone have the same access to the cards? If not, how are they unlocked? Is it true that if someone leaves the game a computer plays for them and you have to keep playing?

Is it true that if someone leaves the game a computer plays for them and you have to keep playing? There is a leader-board, but I have no idea what the points are for a win or loss, but there is no matchmaking as such. You open a Free for all lobby and wait for people to join your lobby, then you launch the game (you can turn the AI control off so if they leave the game, you get the win automatically). Anyone can join I assume, no matter what rank, but I am not certain.
You unlock decks on the campaign by defeating the bosses for that deck, they are really easy and are not challenging at all. Once defeated, you get the deck but each deck has 30 cards locked that you get by winning a multiplayer game or campaign match against the AI by using that deck.

The decks you can play with are much more fun though. Also, most of the challenges (basically puzzles) were fun and well-designed.

My first ever time playing magic was a sealed pool of Future Sight. I cracked a Sliver Legion first pick, and traded it to a friend for his krark clan ironworks/disciple of the vault deck (half his deck was proxies and he had a sliver deck without a legion).
The next time I played magic, which was reluctantly at the time, was a Conflux draft. I cracked Nicol Bolas p1p1, and won our 8 person draft to earn the 12 packs we'd allotted for the prize. Cracked Progenitus, Child of Alara and a foil Apocalypse Hydra in those 12 packs. Ever since then I've had a hard-on for Bolas planeswalker- he's just so awesome and got me back into Magic. Now that he's back in standard, I just have to play a deck with him

So...why would you work that hard for a 7 drop right now that isnt named Elesh or Grieselbrand?

Shows you how much I care for either of those cards or viable 8 drops are.

Does it pass the can you live till turn 8 test while dealing with Undying/Hexproof/Exalted test? I really see no reason to play Grixis after rotation since you lose the two most efficient sweepers in Standard.
|
I think grixis could still be good. I wouldnt play nicols bolas though. I think id rather just have karn. But magmaquake and the new dragon are definitley good reasons to play red. And pillar of flame helps survive through undying creatures pretty well.

Magmaquake not killing flyers is not insignificant. The question for control players will be Esper vs. Grixis colors. Personally, I hope we get another B hand disrupt spell.
