Get a Swashbuckler (godlike AC/Armor but no Backstab) or create a Fighter/Thief-Dual (better Fighting, more HP, strong Backstabb thanks to more *normal* Damage, a little light on Thiefskills, but still enough). There is no need for all the Points a *normal* Thief has.... Iirc Imoen has enough Lockpicking skills to open basically everything in the game except the chests in the Thiefes Guild and She's like a lvl 7 or 8 Thief (Nalia is worse and not sufficent)? The Assassin is not really strong (his backstab isn't better then that of a Fighter/Thief normally and in all other aspect he his worse). His Poison is good, probably really handy when you play Baldurs Gate 2 the first time and Mages give you problems. Spells/Wisdom: I think if you play on *normal* you can't fail memorizing a spell and your free to switch the difficulty at any time anyway... So it's not nesessary for this. Mages alltogether: I wouldn't roll one, at least not if you want to play evil/neutral. Edwin is better than any normal mage you could ever create due to his personal items. Witches are better anyway, if you know what you do ![]()

Divine spellcasters (druids, clerics, paladins, rangers) A few (1, 2, 3?) dialogue options Result you get from wish For the dialogue things, you can use your cleric/druid with high wisdom or chug a potion, for wish, chug those potions. There is no other use for the +wis potions so why not.

If it is your first run of BG1+BG2 i think the best class is a fighter ( paladin/ranger/barb etc ... )

Truth. I'm of the opinion that it is impossible to have too many mages :D Heh, this is even more true in the NWN series. Fireburst, oh yeah. (lvl 5, 1d8 per CL upto 15d8, no friendly fire, 30' radius.) 3 mages casting that instantly kills everything thats not a fire elemental or dragon, heh.

Imo the Tosc bosses aren't really weaker than your average beholder in BG2 :p

I'm not really familiar with big world, but it looks like bgt + a bunch of other mods. Personally, I prefer tutu. Having separate installations is just much easier to deal with when you're playing with many mods. There are less compatability/installation order issues that can possibly arise.

And even in straight up combat beholders die pretty quickly, even if they deal damage really fast. And defense against magic could be gotten from potion or scroll, and even without I don't see it killing a full party. That shield reflects only beholder rays. I heard there was a cloak originally that reflected all spells in SoA, but it was much nerfed with a patch or with ToB, and for good reason, apparently you could kill the end boss by just walking around letting him reflect shit on himself :D

my recommendation for beginners is a fighter class, your choice. In BG1 bows are op and you should use them. I recently passed the game (BG2) for the first time with an archer (Minsc, Jaheira, Anomen, Aerie, Imoen). I'm having troubles with the party in TOB because I roleplayed and tried to do it as quickly as I could (no resting before important fights and in strange places etc.), now 15-16 characters in TOB are fire giant meat ![]() well, another reason for replaying SoA (or even trying BG1) before classes start

As I understand it, that was a problem with vanilla BG1 that was never fixed by the developers and which is more common in both tutu and bgt. I don't believe it has been fixed, but I've only encountered it once in my several playthroughs with tutu.

A pity, the mirror disc looked far better than the webbed spell sphere (not to mention the item's effects...)
