really digging this game never thought it would be possible to enjoy an mmo this much
I feel this kicks WoW ass with all the crazy rift events that are going on
even at lvl 10 there is so much to do and I've barely done anything.
Glad I tried this game, now I purchased the expansion for 20$ and will be playing until this goes F2P
im very surprised this game isnt talked about very much since it brings a great change to the mmo scene

Time to recover my trickster rogue and chew bubblegum.
And Im all out of gum.
Can someone give us a short tutorial on how RIFT is nowadays? I mean how is the pvp? do you do open world pvp?
I do not remember alot since the last time I played it and I have to contact support to recover my account so im not sure of what to expect from this game.
Also is there a added bonus with specific combos of race/class like in WOW?
Ty.

U only get utilities and some +res of your chosen choice from race.
Like a "fly" skill which just helps u speed up the process of getting to mobs (Kill one, fly to the next, instead of walk, ground target)
And the rest is like +20 earth / fire / lightning rest depending.
I think one race gets a little camoflauge thing that doesnt work very well

i played this two years ago and it was pretty fun back then, it had that "wow" feel to it (pun intended, hue). my account got hacked though and I didn't bother redeeming it, but I guess it's time to see what trion's customer support is like

What's the combat like on this? Is it like TERA where the damage is dealt basically where you are pointing, or like WoW where you select a target and press buttons?
I've just picked up TERA and although some parts of the game are a bit annoying (Elins, costumes, general gayness) the combat is really cool, like you actually have to block when an attack is coming, rather than it just being a stat on a character sheet. Is Rift similar?
|
No, Rift is a tab lock-targeting button presser. The combat was actually pretty stagnant at times back when I played at launch. All you would do is visit your class forums to find the highest parsed DPS spec, and copy and paste the provided Macro (since Rift has a built in macro system for skills) and just go nuts.
I remember there was some ridiculous Cleric Shaman/Druid melee DPS spec where like 30 skills went onto 1 button, so all you had to do was hold it down to get one of the highest DPS numbers in the game.
I do not know how much this has changed though, and am interested if anyone currently playing has any insight.

its like WoW, but it feels more laggy and unresponsive.
I quit because the combat didnt feel good to me.

I'm not a 100% sure but i think they kinda restartet the "get everything for free" action on raptr
|
Yeah i think they did restart it actually, saying 3k+ on there now.
Well, time to try again

I got myself a code, but no indication that i am a now a RIFT Full player, and not just Lite anymore... did is miss something?
Edit: Nvm, relog did the trick
Edit 2: For people who haven't reached the minimum playtime for the 30days Storm Legion stuff: Mostly it's enough to just idle in Game with Raptr on

My opinion of Rift, from a few months after it launched, for people who are interested:
It's basically an unpolished WoW. Which might sound like an insult, but I mean it as a compliment, IMO it's the only MMO that has gotten close to WoW in modern times. The combat is kinda sluggish, the graphics has some issues etc, but gameplaywize it felt a lot like WoW and was even better in a few areas. I personally didn't care for the Rift events etc, but the instances I tried were challenging and fun.
If you've never tried, you definitely should when it goes F2P, because IMO until WoW goes F2P (if that ever happens), Rift is the best option for people who don't want to pay subscriptions IMO.

Exactly. Only it improved tenfold from release to when i played it late 2011-early 2012.
And its over a year and one expansion after i played too, so it could only have improved.
Give it a go :D

You know why WoW was so succesful? Not because it totally reinvented gaming, because it didn't, it copied from its predecessors. It succeeded because Blizzard produced quality, at their own pace. Last few years all we get is rushed out products that maybe stand on their feet for half a leveling experience, if even that, and the survivors of that hurdle die to lack of end game.
On topic on Rift again. They really do produce quality over quantity. They have steadily improved and added to their game, fixing bugs / issues and adding unique content for years.
Its probably the one thing that makes RIFT stand out from the rest of the MMO crowd, they arent shoving crap out at 10 patches a month.

champion changed a lot since I played last =[

I just completed my 16 hours of RIFT for the Raptr rewards, confirming again its completely legit.
I added the code to an existing account so i recieved only the storm legion expansion.
I assume the 30 days gametime is tied to the original game, like it usually is with MMO's.
I didnt want to give up my account as i have a 24 slot starter bag, free mount and +10% currency trinket on it :D + a lvl 35 rogue, but thats meh.
No problem, 2 weeks and its going f2p!
Ive seen alot of interest in this in other threads and stuff but not alot here, is anyone interested in starting a TL guild?
Poll: TL Guild? Will you join?Yay. (12) 100% Nay. (0) 0% May. (0) 0% 12 total votes Your vote: TL Guild? Will you join? (Vote): Yay. (Vote): Nay. (Vote): May.
I wont actually go further with this unless i get like 50+ votes.

I remember when titan strike stunned and champs had hamstring =[ now champ is just aoe.

I gotta say, trion customer service is the best ever. my account was hacked in like 2011, and they managed to restore it, unban it and give me 30 days for free on top of that in like an hour. now i picked up the expansion from that raptr giveaway and on I'm my way to 60 for the f2p launch
I'm playing as Aroused on Bloodiron-EU, which is the only english-speaking pvp server. If TL guild is to happen we should make sure everyone rolls on the same server, to avoid what happened in Tera (they split roughly 50/50 on PvE and PvP, although some of it may have been due to pre-f2p)
|
So the game is apparently on a free week, everything is free, you can use over level 20 characters and access all content etc. It was unannounced and i cant find any info on it.
Im not sure if its just for previous subs however, so people without an old account might not be able to access it.
Im looking forward to leveling my 35 rogue before it goes fully f2p on the 12th :D
I also pre-emptively transfered to BloodIron EU, the only active PvP server atm. Hopefully it can build up a nice community as it died off pre-F2P.
If not, only 1 week between free transfers anyway
|
^ In regards to this, all existing accounts are now F2P. They extended it to june 12th so we basically get the F2P access early.
Anyone playing on bloodiron? :D
Really feel like this MMO fills a niche in the market, a good traditional MMO on a F2P system, the only other "good" f2p games i can think of are TERA. Thats it. Which has a very different battle system and game mechanics.
Also, something else others "might" be invested in is GW2, without its subscriptions, which again, isnt traditional.
|
I want to know how is free to play will work.Is this going to be totally free or do I still need to buy game (like GW2).I am interested in starting new MMO but I cant afford to pay anything.
|
i think all major content is free, but you have to pay for some vanity items and also buy the expansion for the expansion classes (which are kinda cool...especially harbinger and the defiler, defiler is really fun.
