Anyone going to play? the F2P MMO market is pretty full right now.
I have to rate this game though, its a pretty awesome WoW-clone with more features. I havent played since before its expansion either, im sure that added more awesome stuff.
I'll probably pick it back up since i can abuse my wifes mountain of gold she had and use my old characters to avoid levelling 1-60 lol.
I do recommend giving it a go. Everything will be F2P apparently too, no restrictions (A la SWTOR)

If they stick to what they are saying and the only 'big' restriction is having to buy storm legion to use the expansion specs it will be fantastic to get back into Rift.

Yeah, i think thats about the only restriction, you get access to all the content apart from the souls from the storm legion expansion.
EDIT: You also get 2 character slots (Like TERA) and 3 "starting bag slots" so assumably you can obtain more. Not much of a problem for me though since i have 2 inactive accounts ready (mine and my wives) and old owners get 6 character slots, 5 bag slots and additional bonuses. Shame we didnt purchase storm legion really.
Shame though, they added some cool souls with storm legion. I read up on it, ranged lightning based warriors, healing rogues with totems, melee mages with interchangable elemental weapons and clerics focused on damage diversion and mitigation as opposed to straight up healing. Sounds very interesting.
Going to download it tonight and screw around with the "RIFT Lite" on my old account before it goes fully F2P, good opportunity to test out the classes and see what i want to level, i know i have a rogue and a mage at 30 / 20 + respectively, can mess around with the cleric and warrior for a couple weeks XD

I hadn't bought storm legion either, but there is a way to get it for free. If you use the Raptr service, like xfire, and play about 16 hours you get a code for it. I happened to macro my way through 12 hours yesterday while I was at work. Should have the code today.

Because running a virus scan on the software is that hard? It's not malware but to each his own. I guess not everyone wants free things.

I like free things. I just don't think running a virus scan on the software will mean much for any potential future security risks should they arise. If other people use it and nothing has happened(yet) then good for them.

Its endorsed by the RIFT devs like propelled said, along with many other companies / games.
And you literally have to use it for 14 hours to get your free shit, then you can uninstall.
Also, you dont get these things unless you purchase RIFT + Storm legion, which i think is something like $50 (?) right now and likely to become unavailable once the game goes F2P (Like TERA) so that people buy the patron subscription for the bonuses instead.
14 hours and your save yourself alot of money, whats the problem?
Pretty awesome for people looking to play RIFT again if you ask me.
Also, i urge people to try RIFT when its F2P (or now on RIFT LITE) its literally the best WoW-clone to date with a shit-ton of extra features that make it superior (IMO) and i played Pre-expansion like i mentioned above, it could only have gotten better. Now its F2P, i can easily see it becoming wildly popular, other popular F2PMMO's like TERA arent the standard hotbar like WoW, RIFT is the best of this "niche" in the F2P world.
Some features RIFT includes that WoW doesnt (or WoW implemented following RIFT)
-RIFT's (lol.) randomly spawning events across the world, ranging from solo to raid level (casual raids, serious are kept to instanced like WoW)
-Instant Adventure - click a button and be sent on a random objective with others for rewards
-Chronicles 2-man dungeons basically.
-200v200v200 PvP
-"Artifacts" basically hidden gems to find while questing (some worth $$$) with lore etc, usually for titles.
Then they have all the standards from WoW, Dungeons, Raids, PvP (Lots of interesting PvP BG's) and queues for them all.
Game is definitely worth a try and best of the F2P "standard" MMO's out there.

With the f2p edition you have access to everything except the expansion souls.
To put that in perspective, there are 8 souls for each class and each class has one expansion soul.
Other then that its character and bag space. (I think you can get more bag space in-game too.)
You dont lose alot really.

Hoping to give this game a shot, been years since I played rift though, apparently I cant remember my password for it, have to talk to support tomorrow to get access. Not sure what is going to be available to me with the LITE version however, my character is over level 20.

Just a heads up to anyone doing the Raptr thing the 30day game time doesn't work for existing accounts and can only be used on new accounts. You still get the expansion for free though.

Glad it worked for other people! There were 3000+ left when I finished my time. I also uninstalled Raptr when I was finished. I doubt there is anything malicious with their software. Many companies, blizzard included, have promotions with them.
Rift is definitely a game worth trying when it goes f2p.

Its a shame my internets on a download cap for 18 hours a day, i couldnt sit idle / play on RIFT because of the background downloads to get my time finished.
Only expansion souls for me though, so no biggy. ^^

Or you could just look into Raptr? Lots of people have used it in the past with zero problems including me. Though it looks like it is too late for the deal with Rift.
