However, in its core it is similar to GW1 with teamwork playing a huge part and well coordinated splits and convergences will make a good team. The position game is something every high level GW1 pvper learns. the core gameplay of gw2 is much more similar to wow then it is to gw1. the way you "split and converge" in gw1 really doesnt resemble gw2 at all.
Well great because I enjoyed WoW PvP 500 times more than Guild Wars 1 pvp! :-)
WoW had some amazing PvP back in Vanilla ^^ good times
I didn't care for Guild Wars 1 too much in general, but I'm looking forward to Guild Wars 2 sooooo much it looks amazing

Just saying. We tried the whole "invite every joe-blow" concept. It went horribly. I'm sorry, it just did. We had to have some sort of process.
Thats where moderation comes in, and you just remove the bad eggs. Still allowing for a fair go / chance for anyone part of the community to join, while keeping the guild to this mix of nice people you have currently.

There's a reason that system is broken, and I'm way too tired to type a wall-o-text about it. We are not a zerg guild, and will not fall to the peer pressure of becoming one.

The difference of course being that giving someone a job costs you money and firing someone is a difficult process... unlike a guild where inviting someone and then kicking them takes 2 seconds of effort.

Yeah that metaphor doesn't even make sense in the context.. as pointed out by Tobberoth.
I think it's completely fine if you want to have an invite only guild, however this seems rather at odds to your claim that this is a guild for the community (when you are defaulting to not accepting people from the community you are creating the guild for).

We'll agree to disagree.
Everything in the guild was voted on since 2010 (check the OP date), including that decision. The majority of the 100+ members felt that way (by a large margin). It was voted on, the decision was made. It will not change.
There's nothing saying that this guild will be the only US guild. I would suggest forming another (more open/casual) and do it that way. If you need, I could help promote it. I'm sure there's plenty of people looking for a free ticket into a TL guild.

I think it's a little bush league to leach off TL so much for the popularity of your guild but not give TL members auto-join into the guild.

I suppose we should be just another zerg guild with no reputation and common sense and recruit every skilled player and troll under this roof we call Team Liquid as well. No MMO experience? No problem! No common sense or aptitude? No problem!
We've been down this route before, please refer to pages 30 something, and 80 something for moderator responses on the matter.
This is far from just a Team Liquid-only guild. Apparently you didn't read the thread. We started in 2010 with all Team Liquid community members from the Eve/Wow/GW1 communities, and started as a "Team Liquid Anyone-can-join-guild". Over time we recruited experience and maturity from all over the competitive MMO scene, ArenaJunkies, Team Quitter etc. Where in 2010 we were 100% TL, we are nowhere near that anymore. We've become a melting pot from a lot of different competitive communities. We kicked off an amazing democratic process, evolved the guild to the prominence it's at now, and here we are.
We still keep in contact with many of the mods here, take advice and criticism in development of www.teamlegacy.net. We still share the strict moderation policies of Team Liquid as well, because like it or hate it, Team Liquid mods have their job down pat. Most importantly, we share the drive that the Team Liquid community shares as a whole - to promote eSports, especially in the case of GW2. That's why we have 2 podcasts, that's why we've already started organizing our first tournament.
Did we start out TL community only? Of Course. Were we all idra fans? Hell no. MarineKing was our guild mascot. Did we open the doors for top arena players and GvG players? Sure did. Even non-TL members. Did we promote the rules and regulations of Team Liquid on our guild? Many bans later, yes. We still have trolls bitching at us for that. Do we encourage our non-TL members (and other GW2 community members) to idolize Team Liquid like we do? Hell yes. If your in the guild joining from somewhere outside Team Liquid, you're going to know who djWHEAT is, your going to know who ryan.rushia is. Your going to know who GTR is, and many others. They all helped organize the site and realistic goals. Now, in 2012, is the guild all Team Liquid-only community members? Absolutely not. The founders/original members still are.
So please save the song and dance for someone else. If you truly want a more open/recruit everyone guild, create your own. Even if we wanted to mass-recruit everyone with less than 1k posts on these forums, we wouldn't be able to.

There's no need to get upset about how Team Legacy runs things. There are just limits to how guilds run and they should not just randomly invite people. Being a professional guild that has a huge emphasis on PvP and others mean that things have to be taken more seriously. Also, there are just so many people on team liquid making this more or less of a forum where people can come and go rapidly. However, a guild in a game works differently. I don't even know the cap for number of players in a guild, but I doubt that a single guild in Guild Wars should have thousands+ members. I am just saying that there is absolutely nothing stopping others from making a similar/ or more casual TL guild. I mean there's this guild and the European one so far, and there's nothing wrong with spreading the name of TL through multiple guilds. Heck, you can make a team called Team Liquid Terrans with subgroups called: Marines, Marauders, Ghosts, or whatever. It just goes to show that there's multiple ways to represent a community.

Coming from someone who isn't even in Team Legacy, I think the people wanting everyone allowed in are being totally ridiculous. The guild leader can run HIS guild the way he wants to... the guild does NOT belong to you guys... if you don't like it go make your own guild and run it the way YOU want to...

That wouldn't be an issue if he wasn't riding the coattails of TL so hard.

I feel the same way, I'm not part of the guild either but why do you feel entitled to join their guild? It actually doesn't even seem that hard to get into their casual guild if you're willing to go through a small screening to make sure you're civil and a nice addition to the guild. TL is a cool site but there are plenty of trolls and A-Holes like any other community, they do a pre-screening in order to keep them out instead of kicking them out after the fact. Since they put in the time and effort to build the guild up from what it was, run it, make the site etc etc they can run the guild the way they see fit. If you want to make a TL guild that anyone can join go for it.

I don't have a problem with your guild per say, just the way you titled it a "TL Guild".
Because it's not.
Honestly this thread is more of a discussion of GW2 mechanics and release info, so it's hard to see what will happen down the road. Turning this into a simple discussion thread rather than plugging a non-TL guild wouldn't bother me though.

Someone didn't do any reading of the thread whatsoever. Which frankly I stopped being surprised about that 40 pages ago.
You got me. It's not a Tl guild. It's main members are actually ponies. This is a circus, and all of the events and interviews we've done a complete fabrication. Matter of fact, if you click the Tl website, you'll be sent to be rick rolled.
The cake was not a lie, we just claimed we all were TL fans to get within reach of "said" cake. Otherwise since we've done no work ourselves and hung on the "coattails " of this community were obviously not a part of, we should thank you guys - the true TL representatives, for calling that out.
I'll be sure to pass this to the ponies, and give them some sort of identity crisis. To all of the members of the guild who were not originally a part of TL, this will be their reminder of exactly why we don't mass recruit from TL, while they ponder the "true" definition of a "Tl Guild"
BTW. The cake was frigging awesome. And I'll be sure to let the moderators know your disapproval of their renaming of my original thread title. IT's been nearly two years, but I think Mango titled it that way. He eats cake too, so when you message him, offer some.

Alright, I've decided to make an actual TL guild. We'll call it "Team Lithium" for now. Requirements to join: 10+ posts. I just want a guild where I can play with people who share similar interests and have fun. Personally I am a competitive PvP player but enjoy PvE as well and I'm sure the guild will be very diverse and have players who enjoy all parts of the game. There will be no divisions and A teams/B teams bullshit and if you end up being a huge dick I'll just kick you so w/e. If this sounds like something you are interested in PM me and I'll see if there is enough interest.

+1. So you know, you can name it Team Liquid. The permission was given to us. We never did having invested a lot of time into the community under the Team Legacy name, plus after a year into it we were a lot more than just Team Liquid members.
I dont know if your trolling or serious, just being helpful.

If there is a teamliquid guild I will definitely join is my plan ^_^.

Not trolling. Not sure how many people are left still looking to join a guild or if they have already joined team legacy but I figured I would give it a shot.

Also if someone with 10 posts wanted to join I would at least look at their posts to make sure it's not spam. And then hey, more people joining TL so that's cool. And even if it was a new account I wouldn't care because maybe it was just a lurker. I lurked for a long time before I started posting. But if you're a poster or a lurker, the one thing in common is you love TL,
