Yea combat in Tera is so punishing if you stay in one position and take all the hits. No more button bashing. Different strategy for all different characters for each different monsters as they have their own pattern.

so happy so very happy. so sick of wow type mmorpgs that consist of brainless button mashing. this is going to be more skill based <3

Good news everyone: "Yes, there will be PvP and PvE servers, details about PvP will be released at a later point. ~Raven" Taken from their twitter.
EU will also have another test today: "From 2 till 6 pm we'll have another special test. Read all about it right here: ow.ly/8Ww5p ~Raven"
With pvp servers confirmed game seems more interesting every day and the test yesterday was pretty enjoyable.

Hey im from europe and did the IGN thing do get a beta key for this weekend and im downloading the game right now.
I wonder if i would be able to play the european test today with the version of tera im dling right now or there is only one version for NA and EU ?

I love the combat system in this game.
This game just feels so amazing starting it off.

Potentially, archers and mages may be the WORST PvP classes if you suck. You can possibly miss everything. but if you are good and aim really well, the burst DPS i think is top notch.. Probably will be rolling an archer. I played tank in L2 and Aion but lancer pve looks painful... lol
Btw, race i heard is important. I heard that human is a must on an archer because of knockback/stun resist and similar skill cds... apparently knockback and stuns are archers' bane.so yall study well beforehand and pick properly!

Races are rather unimportant, actually. The passive bonuses are the biggest bonus, but I believe even the best passive bonuses are only 10%. The active skills have very long cooldowns (30m, 1h, 2h) so you can't really rely on them.
The human active is good but it has a 1 hour cooldown and their passives aren't very good.
|
Barakas's "lay on hands" is pretty huge to be honest even if its 2 hour cooldown.Or the x% more crit chance of the Castanic race. So I dont think races are unimportant when you try to maximize your dps or survability in PvP.

The 1% crit from behind is probably one of the best there is. But none of these compare to Perception, Escape Artist or WotF.
It's designed for aesthetics first.

this game looks so damn cool. I use to play runescape back in the day not runescape 2 ... runescape classic. This seems like what runescape 2 should of been.

Don't know man, I haven't looked into it in detail. I just got it from the general consensus of the max lvl archers in korean servers.
They say Human passive of -10% pvp dmg under 30% hp is insane as well as the 3m active skill which also has half the cooldown time? Longevity/survivability is the top priority in PvP, I'd prefer this over any other skills. They also mention high elf mana skill is quiet useful too, but its so so and every other race is pretty much the same.
edit: Researching more, it seems they don't think race really matters much... everyone's recommending popori cuz its so cute when laying traps... loool
|
from what ive seen its all about hitboxes , for example its easier for the popori or the whatevercalledlittlegirls to target someone with the crosshair but since i dont play the game i dont really know how it is ...
|
dafnay, thats what im reading too. Elin and castanic i am seeing most on the threads in inven korea cuz theyre smaller and quick to the motion.. i dunno how that affects anything. they talking about whole bunch of stuff, like how castanic's crit is nice but round house kick is slow... and how high elf mana is really nice and should be played for boob's sake but its too clunky or something... dunno...

About races:
Like Jibba said, races are rather unimportant. They're mostly designed for the aesthetics, and the passive/active bonus are so minimal it won't make much different late game. But for those people who wants the most out of every possible option, you can choose a race tailored to your class. For example, Castanics are considered to be the best race for Berserkers and Slayers since they always hit from behind, the 1% Critical chance is probably the best passive in terms of race differentiation. Amans have strong armor/defence so techinically they would be most beneficial for tanks. Elfs are good for Sorc/Mystic/Priest however, the passive/active bonus is so minimal it really doesn't make much difference. The thing about Elins and Poporis, they pretty much have same active/passive bonus which are completely useless. However, the reason why Elins are so popular in Ktera other than the loli factor is their overwhelming advantage in small hitboxes. Their hitboxes makes it difficult for opponents to target you in PvP, also the mobs have harder time focusing you (reason why you see so many Elin Lancers). Note: Poporis really have no superior advantage over any other race other than hitbox advantage however, Elins are better in that context. There were some known issues with Popori and the animation. For example, it is recommended you don't play Popori Berserker because there used to be an animation bug that got you stuck after a certain skill. (This should've been fixed). Many people usually play Popori just for the "cute" factor. However, these are all very minimal and most people in KTera choose their race based on visual appeals. I've seen and known top players in Ktera using variety of race/class combination. Technically, Castanics are the best race for Berserkers however, in my server one of the best and most well-known Berserker used Human. Warriors are a very iffy and tough class, reason being they're very skilled oriented and in high level dungeons it is almost impossible to get a party unless you have godlke controls and you're known among the server. (This could and will be a LOT different in North American Tera since I heard there was going to be a major change to Warrior class just before I quit which was after Dark Awakening patch, so I don't know if this already happened or they're banking on it). Castanics, Amans and Humans are most popular among Warriors, however, the single best Warrior in my server known for godlike controls used High elf which isn't the most optimal choice. Passive/Active bonuses are pretty much cherry on top, if you're in for aesthetics, go for it. However, if you want that 1% of extra advantage, you might consider a race tailored to your class as well.
Someone asked me about PvP in Tera over PM to explain on the thread so I'll give a brief explanation:
This is how it is/was on Ktera, I'm not entirely sure why North American Tera is getting two separate servers PvE/PvP? I think this defeats the whole purpose of guild political system. In KTera there is world PvP, meaning you are able to PK (Player Kill, aka Hostile someone) anyone in the open map and kill them IF that area (continent) has PK on. Each continent is governed by a guild voted by general player population. Voting usually happens 2-4 weeks. Advantages of governing continent is that your guild earns gold from taxes from shops in the continent. Then that governing guild has the power to put active PK ON or OFF. And depending on those, you might or might not be able to opening PK someone in certain areas. There is also a PvP Arena which you can go with 5 of your guild members. It matches you against another 5 players from any servers (it's across all servers).
There is TONS of guild wars in Tera, you will hear and see guild wars among top guilds everywhere. And every so often, if you're in top guild you will be PK'd by your opponent guild (Roaming as 5, they always roam as 5) while training and your guild will have to patrol the area to protect you. Guild wars can be hostile or it can also be friendly (just for fun) and usually it ranges fro 20-50 vs 20-50. There is a LOT of teamwork involved in PvP. The 1vs1 PvP is so imbalanced that it's almost a joke, however, given 5+ players it becomes a totally new concept. Warriors and Slayers are probably the single best 1vs1 PvP class, however. Archers, Lancers, Mystics and Berserkers are KEY players in guild wars. For example, Lancers are used to pull onto one of your opponent (Some skill that chains your opponent and brings them towards you) and the slayers stun them on spot and the Berserker lands a huge charged up hit on the spot that Lancer just grabbed your opponent in, one hit ko.
I'll post more information later, I hope this helped!

Thanks for the post it cleared many things.
I wonder how the pvp is gonna be outside korea , I heard they gonna apply some debuffs to people who want to PK others , but is this going to be the case in EU/Na Tera version with one server dedicated only to PVP ? It would make no sense to me since PVP should be AT HIS BEST on a PVP server...
But still its risky to do that cuz when you have a large overview of lasted MMORPGs , you can clearly see those which have hardcore pvp have failed , thats why they should find the perfect balance between being able to kill someone in an open world and the fact it doesnt discourage new people getting into the the pvp and who never played Lineage 2 for example.
But Ive one more question to the poster above : when i was playing WoW i loved my priest , is this class pretty much the same in Tera in term of skills : able to heal and deal damage ? Are mystics better than priests in terms of PVP ? ( I read somewhere from a lvl 50 player that PVE : mystics and PVP : priests ; is that true?
Also what bout crafting ? Again from what i read its pretty useless cuz u get better stuff in dungeons?
|
I haven't played WoW much so I can't compare priests from WoW to Tera but I will explain the differences between priests and mystics. Priests are able to heal and deal damage, they have higher damage (bursts) and bigger heals than Mystics. However, mystics are able to drop crystals HP/MP balls which are very useful in dungeon boss battles. Priests also have better party buff skills than mystics however, there is one factor that distinguishes Priests from Mystics and that is the fact that mystics have flash/teleport skill which priests do not. This becomes crucial in high level dungeons on difficult setting (hard mode) and in PvP. In 5vs5 PvP Arena, you always take Mystic instead of Priests because you simple cannot survive in the arena without flash/teleport. In guild wars they're both used but mystics obviously have easier time surviving. In higher level dungeons priests have really hard time surviving in boss battles. Therefore during in-experienced phase (top players that just hit lvl 50 and are grinding Akasha for example) mystics are preferred over priest due to survivability. (But they're both exceptionally viable when people get experienced enough). They sometimes even run 2 healers Mystic and Priest, and bring 2 Berserkers for DPS because priest buffs are so good and sometimes mystics heal burst isn't enough.
Crafting is FAR from useless. It is true that gears you get in dungeons are better but what makes or break the item is the options that come with the item. Those options are very crucial, one of the most crucial option is the 8% Attack speed increase in weapons. When you get double of these option 16% increased attack speed, the price of the item skyrockets even if the base dmg is lower. (This depends on weapon type, attack speed is usually the best for Spears/Swords/Wands). You need different kinds of options for Axe/Bow etc. So a crafted item with good option costs more than dungeon items with okay options. You can make a LOT of money by crafting, I had a friend who just sat on Belika and crafted weapons and armors for hours and hours. She made millions of gold by crafting and selling, there are loopholes within the market and the prices because people are generally lazy so there are big profits to be made if you put effort into learning all the prices/crafting receipts etc.
PS. About PvP, there is no looting or gold drops or exp losses or anything when you get PK'd. You simply get sent back to the town and usually PKing occurs to disrupt others from training and stealing spots. It is very competitive to get training spots in higher level areas that people usually buy off each other. In PvE, when you die, your equitable crystals have a chance to break, but you dont lose experience or anything else. Those equitable crystals can be very expensive though, and in higher level dungeons you need those crystals to even get picked up by a party.

Thanks for the knowledge bombs.

Since EME said in one of their threads that they have total control over what happens in the NA version of the game, I think they should change the race cooldowns to like 1/4 of what they are now, so baraka for example have their full heal once every 30minutes which is a more reasonable amount of time than 2 hours (I havent played any TERA so idk if that helps much or not, I was thinking in terms of a dungeon boss where your healer dies and you need healed)
|
Ive read that if youre CC you can be literally one shoted even at max lvl ( the pvp and pve damage is pretty much the same ) , so yeah it makes no sense being a priest in grouped pvp ...
It has noyhing to do with a WoW disci that u cant even break the shield ^^
