And the escape sequence after that was bone-crushingly difficult for me as a kid. Left me with sweaty hands after it was done, and usually a little teary.
I was just going to post this. He had so many forms.
Oh boy this list could go on forever, but I will list the main games I refused to put down until I beat them and these were the bosses I loved (some are repeats):
And of course the game I spend the most of my time still to this day.. Counter-Strike 1.6
Forever am I locked into the battle of planting or defusing this damn bomb....
I always loved the video game bosses that had different forms that made the battle more than just one-dimensional. That being said my list is mostly of newer games that I can remember where I truly enjoyed the boss battles.
1). Bongo Bongo
This guy was seriously so cool, especially because he took up the entire screen for most of the time. It was seriously fun to beat this guy and I definitely enjoyed it.
2). Yiazmat
Again, another creature that takes up the entire screen to fight. There is alot of hate for this guy which I don't seem to understand because to me, he was truly fun and exciting (especially towards the end to fight).
3). Chronos
That little speck is your character, and you have to kill that titan. Such a bad ass fight in GOW III. Whether you are upside down sideways or running away from his sweeping hands, this fight is a sure treat on the eyes. For sure a boss that I will never forget.
4). Darth Vader (Star Wars TFU)
Seriously, who doesn't love Darth Vader? Special mention to the fact that you can use the force to stop an entire space station from pummeling you. So sick.
5). Ultimecia
FF VIII best FF ever imo. And this was the best final boss from a FF series imo also. I don't care if you disagree.
6). Barthandelus
Cool battle and really good music.
If that is too many images for one post I can spoiler them.
I'm in school for game design so I'm going to be more analytical than most posts in this thread
generally I'm not a huge fan of bosses that are purely pattern-based (such as most bosses in Ninja Gaiden) or just require X weapon to beat (like most "bosses" in half-life that just requre you to shoot with a rocket launcher a few times). I generally enjoy boss fights most when they also blend in puzzle-elements that require you to think as you fight and figure out the "secret" to beating them (this is another reason why shadow of colossus is one of my favorite games of all time lol).
so some of my favorite bosses include:
warhawk (final boss helicopter guy from twisted metal black): such a great boss because not is it a very hard fight, you are forced to fight an enemy in a way you never had to before in the game (by blowing up the tankers when he got near).
hydra from God of War 1: I love how you have to come to realize that you must kill the tiny heads 1st before tackling the big head (also love the way you have little scuffles with it 1st throughout the 1st level. It was so awesome back then. I wish god of war 2 and 3 didnt totally copy that formula VERBATIM :\).
almost every colossi from shadow of the colossus lol
The End from MGS3: epic hour-long sniper battle unlike anything else in the game. tons of tools and routes you can take to beating him too.
for some reason I've suddenly caught writes block and cant think of more boss fights :\. ill post again later when I can think of em.
