Firstly, the wave system. It is completely ridiculous. It's a total game breaker for me. It made combat grueling rather than fun, every encounter something to be dreaded (and not in the good sense) than enjoyed. Every time I was fighting during the more advanced parts of the game I was just shaking my head and sighing. Also, the frequency of fights is too high. Guy can't take out his trash without being assaulted by 50+ masked bandits who just happened to be prowling the rich part of town. You know, the one where all the nobles and every important person in the city lives. Secondly, the ending. It was a complete and utter sham. Don't let anybody persuade you that it wasn't. I may just have to whip out my rhetorical pickax and deconstruct the entire charade. There's good stuff about it too, but the quality overall is not consistent. I was very disappointed. Even sorry I'd bought it. Also, every time Flemeth appears she goes "yada yada dramatic stuff, look at how dramatic and ominous I am, you should, like, really like me, dramatic stuff - go!"

Yes. One of my last quests involved the choice to kill a very important person (now that is no spoiler as every quest is about killing), being forced to kill a lot of other people and my companion just doesn't care about that. No talking afterwars, where there should have been tears and despair. If this is the quest I think it is there is a reason to it- the quest is bugged, you get the reaction to the event before it happens... left me confused for a bit until I did the actual quest.

![]() In case anyone thought that Blizzards point of view on writing stunk... writing is what makes or breaks a Bioware game, cause it sure it as hell isn't the gameplay, and then this fuck who happens to be the lead writer starts behaving like this. DAII is almost as bad as FFXIII and has nothing good about it.

Having said that its still a pretty decent game, just not the epic we've come to expect from Bioware.

The combat is the only the only thing that hadn't suffered from a major decline compared to DAO, but it'd need to be a lot better to carry the rest of this trainwreck on it's own. plus I take issue with supporting developers who are clearly happy to act as pretentious arseholes who don't even attempt to be subtle.

I much preferred DA:O's combat, the endless waves, your party moving in supersonic speed and mobs in slowmotion, throwing in "assasins" with more health than tanks in order to make combat challenging, throwing a AoE-spell and seeing mobs absolutely explode in blood, lack of isometric wiev, the damn speeed of the combat making it a pain to try to co-ordinate something with your whole party etc etc. Combat was okay as long as you mainly focused on controlling one character, they should have either focus on party combat or scrapped the idea of having a party and just allowed you to take one partner with you. This might have meant that they could have balanced combat without super mega assasins or endless waves of fodder for you to spontaniously explode in blood and gore.

i jsut can figure out the real truth about Dragon Age 2. How much of it is the game sucking and how much of it is just an overreaction by over-entitled PC gamers who complain and bitch about everything? If the game really sucks that hard, then why does ALL the good gaming magazines and websites give the game good reviews?

I've put about 10 hours into the game now and my opinion is that a lot of the critisism is overly exaggerated. With ME2 and DA2 it's clear that Bioware is streamlining their games quite a bit but I don't consider that entirely a bad thing. The game is different than it's predecessor but it stil feels like a dragon age game with all the character developement and choices to be made. Bottom line, I like the game. I don't like the enemies that pop out of nowhere or the character locked camera, but as annoying as they are, they don't make the game unplayable or unenjoyable.

After 10 hours you haven't yet reached the phase of "oh no, not again the same dungeon, let's see which doors are closed this time" for every single quest. That alone was the reason i stopped playing.

This pretty much sums it up for me: http://www.kotaku.com.au/2011/03/let-off-some-steam-dragon-age-ii-reviews/ And far from ALL gaming websites and magazines are giving it top reviews, http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/dragon-age-2/review.html?mode=web&tag=scoresummary;critic-score And i also found the video review on gamespot pretty accurate, he explains the pros and cons of the game and leaves it up to you to decide if the game is something for you or not.

However, the core gameplay is well-paced and the dialogue is worth sitting down for. I'd get it on sale, though, given that it is relatively short.

The story is bland and the quests uninteresting. I find all I'm doing is playing chase the yellow arrow. even reading/listening to everything I still have 0 attachment to any of the characters or their motivations within the story. The level design, something which, in DA:O had you interested and excited to look around is simply a dumbed down and endlessly repeated backdrop to the story you have no attachment to. I actually don't even know my character's motivation for most of the things you do, other then to look for opportunities to be a snide bitch (admittedly I'm choosing primarily the purple options, so I'm probably to blame on that.) Stats you are essentially forced into putting all your points into the 2 stats associated with your class, not even really being able to focus all the points in one due to prereqs of both stats. rogue: cunning/dex warrior: str/stam mage: magic/willpower The other stats never come up enough to want to put points in them. Every levelup so far I put 2 pts in one and 1 in the other, then the level after I reverse it. waves of spawning enemies works when it's done well, and sparingly, like with demons or undead climbing out of the ground. But when I'm fighting a pack of bandits in an enclosed room, and enemies are spawning right on top of me, it stops having even any semblance of tactics involved other then stack up on the tank and aoe everything down. I've loved Bioware's games, with their great storytelling, and interesting worlds. There is none of that in this game and I am extremely disappointed in the Bioware team for making this game. My guess is that EA came down and told them to make it more casual friendly, and then gave them a rushed deadline. I sincerely hope ME3 doesn't flop like DA2 did...
