This is cRAzi: On top of Natural Selection's alpha release (Starcraft in FPS form) on July 26th, BlackCatGames, working from within VALVe, is bringing their reinvented "Alien Swarm" to steam, for FREE.
This is sick siCK SICK. Alien Swarm was a coop mod from 2004. Back then there were no cool coop games, much less good ones. The original was IMO better than Left4Dead, more intense, more cooperative options, all that good sh**t. I've been waiting for their for-money indie debut since then, but I guess the team got hired by Valve 2 years ago.
Anyway it's free, the original kicked copious amount of azz, and it'll be downloadable in 3 days. NS2 on 26th, SC2 on 27th, too much good stuff in the next 2 weeks xO
That game looks like a lot of fun. I am going to agree with you on the " better than L4D " part, it looks like more fun. Left 4 Dead didn't expand in the second, they made a few adjustments, but overall it was nothing.
The original was what "alien" would be in game form. There was wielding doors shut, there was setting mines for trap, there was marine being infested by chest-busters, 360 degree radar, hacking computers, big chain guns, alien surround like zerglings, it even had cooperative bullettime for when it got too intense.
If this thing plays like the original, it'll beat out the $60 games out there.
I absolutely hated the regular NS mod for HL. It had great graphics (back then) and the concept was nice, but I thought the maps as well as some gameplay aspects were whack.

First of all, NS was amazing. Secondly, that is completely off-topic as the games aren't even similar.
Alien Swarm Infested is going to be available for FREE?
Like, not just Alien Swarm the original, but the game they've been working on forever? Fuck yeah I'm pumped :D I'm definitely going to be playing this.
Alien Swarm is definitely one of my favorite games of all time.
On July 17 2010 08:54 Durak wrote: No news forever and now finally a gigantic announcement. Alien swarm was great but very challenging.
FA (Jinro) is probably as pumped for this as I am. Game on!
God damn right :D
<- Flamer marine. 'Cause accidentally blowing up friendlies who carry ammobags is fun.
The original campaigns for Alien Swarm were pretty good, but the fanmade ones just elevated this game so high... I forget which one it was where you had to trap those giant spider aliens in the constantly rotating research facility.... Escape From Rhea maybe? I remember being stuck on that mission for like 3 hours together with Malmis
I am sooooooo hyped for this game. The community mods are gonna be awesome.
I'm wondering what the catch is though - it's free. Maybe they're working on a similar or vastly upgraded edition they'll reveal in a few months? The only other catch I can see is that you have to get Steam to use it.
Saw this at work today and I was like "where the hell did this come from?" Looks great, I never played the mod but me and some friends are definitely gonna play this!
On July 20 2010 03:38 lerremweird wrote: Like 15 minutes ago it told me "approximately 1 hour till download", now it's back up to 3, anyone else seeing this?
I saw it too, I was like fuck yeah it's unlocking at 3pm! I guess there was a problem or something
Dang I can't download, says servers are too busy. I'll try again in 30 mins or so, I hope it doesn't lag in game tho. Tell us how it is for people who are playing!

You can try changing your download region in 'settings' to see if that helps your download speed. I found one that not many people are using and I'm downloading the game at my max speeds.
On July 20 2010 05:55 Liquid`Tyler wrote: Is there some way to get it without getting Steam too? Or is it better to get both anyway?
To get this you need Steam. In my opinion, Steam is great. There are always great deals on games. Also, you can access a Steam overlay with shift+tab in-game. In this overlay you can talk to Steam friends, and also access the web all without needing to alt-tab.
If you add a non-steam game, you can use this overlay as well, plus it shows your Steam friends what game you are playing.
on topic: looks fun, will def give it a try (im too much of a sucker to not do so), also anyone else see that 'shitload of weapons' on that trailer and rewind to see that it actually said shipload?

Thanks for showing the group. Didn't know there was one on Steam
By the way, we're 3 people downloading from Latvia, all on different ISPs and we all have very low speed at the moment. So it's not just NY. It's server overload.
EDIT: Try switching different servers, at the moment GER - Frankfurt is somewhat ok and US - Dallas.

I don't think selecting a download region matters at all. I've tried everything, including Africa. My brother came in, asked what I was trying to download, tried it on his computer, and it worked. I think you just need to get lucky and get a spot.
Edit: Spam tried three more times after this and got a spot. I still believe my hypothesis.

It does matter, for me it changed things quite drastically.
By the way, where does your nickname come from? Do you know what it means in Russian?
Is there no way to control more than 1 character now? I'm playing with 2 friends and obviously we still want to be 4 players... But I see no way to choose more than 1 -_-
In the first game you could just control however many you wanted t.t
I'm kinda really disappointed so far by this game - I hate to be "that guy", but the original is 10x as good :[ Which still makes this game good.
Anyway, feel free to add me on steam - I'm JFWW89
EDIT: Tho honestly, all this game has made me want to do is replay through all of the originals campaigns :/ There's like 5 of them, and it's not quite as super bright.
PS: cuz I cover our ass with an autogun and people walk in front of it... told them every mission I'm covering out back dont get shot and they just walk right in front of the fire.
"Hey guys let's do this for real this time"- nitrogen and elemenope proceed both to rush ahead as fast as possible and weld doors shut, getting me then alv killed. then elemenope continues on to die due to another FUCKING DOOR, and nitrogen's game crashes from not catching said falling door.

unweld your own doors. i dont want the aliens following me, yo.
I've played through about half of it I think. I'm just playing with random team mates but so far its been a blast. There isn't anyone retarded that I've met yet. All the groups wanted to talk about strategies on how to win so it was actually really fun. Just be patient.
My steam id is Pooks if anyone ever wants to play.
This was pretty fun - I played it online with a few buddies this afternoon. We all died halfway through a mission and one of them was a hero and Ramboed his way to the finish alone.
I'm easily entertained and games that give weapon and item upgrades regardless of genre somehow make me super happy, so this was an easy sell. Oh wait, it was free.
Played through the entire campaign with friends... the server crashed on the last level just as the ship was picking us up, argh. This game is pretty fun except there's always an x-man in our group who is trying to secretly get us all killed D:<
Also kind of off-topic, but TL badly needs a reworked steam group with at least somewhat active leaders that can post events/announcements on stuff, like TF2 events etc. Maybe Kennigit and some other people can make a new one?
I played a little bit today on a friend's computer but it was really laggy. Can't wait for my new comp to arrive so I can try this out. Looks promising.
The game is pretty fun, but I'm stuck on the last mission on hard, can't find any random groups to beat it with (not mention that there are literally 0 games on insane going on). Steam is spazzing out and doesn't let me add any friends, so I guess no cake for me yet. Managed to promote myself once, I wonder how many times you would be able to do that, leveling to 27 goes pretty fast, and there's an experience bonus at the more difficult modes of the game >_>
One of the achievements is bugged for me for some reason, the one where you give out ammo, should've gotten it ages ago just due to normal gameplay but it's still 0/10 D:
'Ey man, Jimmy here. If someone is looking for an extra player for Coop, just send me a PM, alright? Will be nice to play more of a coordinated game you know.
steam come on... I have college and I wanna graduate with honors and you tease me with these enticing offers which I will eventually fall prey to due to my growing frustrated desire to enjoy life outside of parties and social interaction... a time alone should be for studying yet I am here posting on TL and waiting for you to download instead of doing my financial report on an entrepreneurial fund raiser... each day you tease me, each day you call me, each day I click you, each day...
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL...

Yeah i totally agree, I'd love to be able to play tf2 with people from TL, maybe do some scrims.
I played with a friend last night and we almost cleared it on easy with only two of us... until we reached the second to last level and there was like 5 infestors and one immediately leaped on me when I had like no health and I died.
He wasn't long for this world given I was the medic hahahha. ;x

Even with a medic gun and the group heal you burn through your heals so fast if people carelessly get infested. 3 people get infested and your done for your medic gun and have to rely on just group healing which is a pain at times because monsters blitzing at you keep people moving around so if anyone gets infested you better hope everyone else can cover well =P.
Tried it out a bit, and its definitely keeping my interest. I'm hoping maybe that the idea of having TL groups for this would be nice, perhaps some people can add me?
divinelyinspired
I have a few friends to play with, but I know we'll have at least one person missing sometimes, or other ways around.
Theres a really easy sim-city trick on the cargo elevator map, you can just place a sentry in front of the panel while everyone sits behind it. The monsters cant get through since the sentry blocks off the entire tile. You only need to worry about is the monsters climbing up the walls.
If its old news oh well, figure it would work better than have everyone frantically shooting each other.
Started playing earlier today, already level 22 or 23. Tried easy, too easy, tried normal, too easy, tried hard, too easy but insane is alllllright. Of course that depends entirely on your team. I like to keep my guys simple, usually I shotgun/ammo/armour although I should really try out all the other stuff but I just think -20% damage on insane is far greater than doing a bit more damage with crazy spray rockets and what not

This is what i did with my group ^.^ We should definitely have a TL TF2 event :D
I joined the TeamLiquid.net group although didn't see any games up at the time, if someone wants to organise a few sessions later today that would be cool and sorry but I just want to say this: SHOOTAN FLAMEN INFESTEN FRIENDLY FIREN
Just played quite alot of this today. Have to say it's a great game!
Got to the level before the last on insane difficulty. Also am around lvl 14 now and have that star thingy which you get if you reach max lvl 27 and then click on promote =]
I need a serious business team to beat this game on Insane. It is impossible to get a good team for insane... Somebody is always an idiot or picks a flamethrower.

Since the Flamethrower isn't good as long as you're not a teamshooting retard amirite?

Should we make a new teamliquid group, more oriented towards playing together? And then maybe make a new thread for it then?
EDIT: Ok I just made the group, if you guys want in either message me through steam: <bdf92>, PM me, or reply in this thread with your steam ID so we can get this rolling
every single time i try to join a public game it times out
ok i finally got in one lol guy complained that i sucked of course i suck, its my first time playing this im playing on easy and i have no clue wtf is going on
can anyone help me, i was able to play last night but now i get an error that says the game is unavailable please try again later anyone know how to fix this?
too bad im never into games which involve playing against ai cooperatively. left4dead was just meh for me and i can't stand playing through campaigns in any multiplayer game.
but alien swarm's 3rd person shooter style makes me like it a little more

Yes PLEASE!! I need some new people to TF2 with. All my RL friends got bored and moved onto other things. I'm still obsessed with TF2 and been playing it like crazy while SC2's down.
Ok so for all the people who want to play TF2/Alien Swam/other valve games together(since the current TL group is somewhat disorganized and is more for people who are just part of TL and aren't interested in playing games together) here's the URL for the group,

I can't get away from shotguns myself, they are just SO good. I go pump action with the tech/medic because I can't have the vindicator and I'm the guy that holds the rear and blasts through waves of those zerglings when they come at you. I usually have the medigun/ammo because I don't have a fancy playstyle I just like to bust things and carry on which is why I use the armour as a third. Now that I know the maps a little better I sometimes sentry gun too. I tried out the last sentry gun, some kind of uber 25 ammo blastin' gun on the elevator but it really is bad. Took over 3 shots on just one of the lings crawling on the ceiling and I don't even know if it died, the machine gun one seems much better and the flamer one seems best for that bit due to it's more ammo and flamin' awesomeness
Why wrong? Good medics are priceless, same as good sharpshooters
But here, it's mostly about people playing properly, I spent like 70% of my med gun on one guy who constanty lost health and he died in the end still in some random place. I'm a bad medic for him, but objectively he ruins all teamplay and doesn't leave me with enough resources to heal others.
Guns are overrated. Get Vegas and punch the shit out of people. I think it might be actually good if you learn to dodge alien melee attacks because Vegas one shots everything. It is also very hilarious to kick an alien and watch it explode.
God insane is ridiculously hard haha Just fiished it a couple of times in hard and it's pretty easy if you know what to do but insane is just another level. Need 4 guys who know how to play and trust each other.
Natural Selection blends first-person combat with real-time strategy. It features intense "marines vs. aliens" teamplay, where one marine can become Commander. The Commander plays from a top-down perspective and leads live players.
The aliens can evolve upgrades like "Cloaking" and "Scent of Fear", and can change lifeforms to run on walls, fly, and even devour marines whole.
NS has atmospheric indoor sci-fi environments full of steam and smoke, and features custom orchestral music from the award-winning Jeremy Soule.
It is a freely-available Half-life modification, and since its release in October of 2002, has had over 2 million downloads, and had been played for 2 billion player-minutes.

Yes SO TRUE! Did the campagin on Insane... quite difficult.
Then we tried speed runs.... so fucking hard! Literally they must be some of the hardest game achievements I've ever tried. Managed the first 2 then we lost patience on the third after about 8 attempts some only 1 second too slow.
I'm pretty sure we're the only people to have done them since it said 0% had the achieve then 0.1% after we got them. The 3 we haven't done still say 0%.
I really hope they don't nerf it.... and btw there is a trick you need to know to do any of them. + Show Spoiler +
If you use adrenaline as you are hacking, it allows you to hack whilst the timer is in slow motion.

Yeah, those speed runs we did klive were on NORMAL to, imagine what it would be like on hard or even insane O.o
With only one campaign it's getting worn out quite fast, but I guess there's already bunch of guys working on their own.
I think there was a deathmatch map/mod thing under work too, might have a vid in youtube.
Also, did they fix the bug that let you reload the ammo box to replenish the boxes you carry? People were asking me how to get so many packs when I just kept dropping them.
So far finished it with hard with some friends, guess we'll take on the insane next, when they're online.

We'll they would be impossible of course. The achieves say normal or harder but it basically means normal. It's like they calculated the mathematically perfect time and added 1 second. There is no breathing room at all.
To me this game was a bit like Shadowgrounds (Not a bad thing) but with coop and nice ranking system this is much better. I just love leveling up and getting better equipment.

We used a heavy with autocannon on point. Engineer with tesla behind him (no friendly fire). Medic with medigun. Officer with vindicator covering the back.
It worked reasonably well without being "gimmicky".
Pretty fun game, I can only play the single player level because I get stuck at "Establishing connection to games" when trying to public games, but I enjoyed the first level at least.
Just did the last level on insane. We lost a guy half way through but it was pretty easy, easier than hard. Maybe those two guys using tesla as imba...
Running to the ship was a doddle
joining games is getting pretty annoying, I do not want Landing Bay again! The patch didn't fix it at all
Me and my friend and two pubs just played Landing Bay on normal about 100x, trying to do it as fast as possible for quick exp, around 1000 for 2mins work
It took about 20 tries to get the achievement of completing it in 1m25 But if others are after this, what we did was: 1 tech that can do the hacks quickly (adrenaline helps here) 2 special weps that hold pistols when running and when you're at the final stage and waiting for the final door to break, just use miniguns with damage multiplier and it breaks in seconds The last guy can be whatever but holding pistols or the protectors will be best
Adrenaline seems to help, so puzzles are easier and quicker to solve and so you can dodge aliens easier

Updates to Alien Swarm have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:
Alien Swarm Fixed crash to desktop on certain graphics cards Fixed matchmaking sending you to the wrong mission Fixed not being able to earn the “Ammo Technician” achievement Fixed not being able to open particle systems in the editor
Yay I just completed the insane campaign last night. Btw steam wont let me join group chats or send messages or add friends without first buying a game.

I just found a way to bypass this. Although this is against Steam's intent, I don't see a problem with divulging because a) its easily found anyway and b) TL members aren't spambots. PM me.
I'm gonna be playing this a lot for the next few days, if not the next few weeks. However my internet is kind of slow, so only add me if you're in the East Asia region. Or post your steam id and I'll add you.

As for skills, I can play any class but I like tech a lot. I've beaten the campaign on easy and normal; I haven't tried hard or insane yet. I would likely be a liability on the latter.
On a side note, is the Join game function from the group buggy for anyone else? 90% of the time it only displays internal ip or a 0.0.x.x ip which you can't join - it will only say server is not responding. Only today did I find a guy whose actual external ip was displayed and I could probably join - if the game was not full, made by this guy called VINCE.
FYI: The DeepFreeze map in the pack is the older version.
Will do.
PSA: Download the .vpk file to your C:\program files\steam\steamapps\common\alien swarm\swarm\addons folder, or equivalent depending on where you installed Steam.
Guys, I've learned from experience - link your profiles, works a lot better. Sometimes you just can't find people by search. Especially on accounts which don't have anything money bought on them.
it seems this game doesn't scale according to # of players?
We were able to beat level 2 on normal with 3 people pretty easily, but then I tried yesterday with one of my friends and we had severe trouble with level 3, even after setting the difficulty to easy.
Do you need 3 or 4 people to play, or is there something I'm missing?
Blasius it's the mirracle of team which is playing. Because I felt it enough especially after playing with people like myself (playstyle and attitude wise).
I could make examples, but I'm quite sure you'll get what I mean.

no i don't think it scales to the # of people in the game, unfortunately. although it is fun to type in asw_ignore_need_two_player_requirement 1 into the console and try to solo some levels :D

I know that, I'm on Steam for quite some long time. And it doesn't work every time with every person, why? Don't ask me.
so my friends and I tried to do the speed run with only 3 people for 3 hours...and then we finally got our time down to 1:23, and then we realized that no one can die (we had to let the tech die after downloading to data). Guess we'll wait for a 4th.

Anyone here has a solution that works to solve the problem of Alien Swarm (crashing) going back to desktop while it starts up? I tried some googled answers but to no avail so far.
I presume others have had the problem, saw at least one similar question in this thread but couldnt find a helpful reply.

They might have fixed this in the latest update.
The Vindicator’s grenade explosion effect should no longer crash users running a GTX260 graphics card.
Another annoying bug is that the FPS drops really during the briefing screen of the final mission Timor Station. Makes chatting a pain.

anyone have a problem with the speed runs? this is what happened to us:
1) 3 people, we complete it, only 2 get the achievement. we re-run it, and the 3rd player gets the achievement, even though he should of got it the first time.
2) then next level we have only 2 people. my friend gets the achievement, and i dont.
i think it may have something to do with when you enter the final room. all our screens times matched up, and no one died obviously (since the achievement says 0 deaths). both times i was the last one into the room (by a very small margin) and both times i failed to get the achievement, even though we had 6 seconds to spare

Just throwing this out there in case there's anyone else who would prefer to play a game like this on their 360 controller. I modified it, and included some other commands if you want to change it. All input commands in the game can be found in steamapps/common/alienswarm/swarm/cfg/keyboard_config
I didn't get "cancelselect" to work but I only tried it once. Messing around with the config files is fun.
[Edit]Until I figure out a way to fix the sensitivity for the Right Analog Stick the game is just plain better on a keyboard. Which is a shame, this type of game lends itself naturally to using a controller.
[Edit2] Fixed errors and updated for proper spacing. Huzzah for clean code.
On the one hand, too bad that there is only one campaign, on the other hand, they also released an SDK for it. I thought about mapping for it, but I probably won't finish it anyway as I am really lazy .

We did all speedruns 2 days ago and never had anything like this. If someone was late - everyone missed it. Maybe they fixed something in the latest update but didn't mention it...
One achievement is bugged, the Reactor one (4th level), it says it requires 3:10 but got rewarded for a bit higher time.
Some levels are extremely easy to speedrun, some are quite annoying, like 3rd one. It depends on hacks the most but it requires huge tactical move.
Chaining adrenaline makes the speedruns pretty easy, only hard one is the last, and maybe the 5th(?), where you have to burn the biomass, since you have to split up your whole team.

Yes, we had that problem, only 1 person got the achievement on level 5 (the biomass one) because he was the first into the elevator.
Awesome game, just found out about it! Always thought L4D looked fun but didn't have the longevity to justify the asking price, hope to have some fun with this though.
First mission, ran around killing aliens... Ran out of ammo and got zerg'd, so I trying punching them all to death... Died. Now I know how kerrigan feels.
Just beat Hard today. "Almost" beat the 2nd level in Insane with 3-man. Screw ups are very unforgiving... and encounters are also different. Could use more experienced players for Insane runs. Patience is required for trial and error.
Insane requires a dedicated Faith medic with medic gun + heal beacons or an entire group that is amazing at not getting infested. Other than that you need to keep a fair pace (if you take forever the swarm spawns endlessly so you will never move) and have your team rotate around to make sure the medic stays in the middle away from danger (since the medic has zero weapons and melee is not good in insane without power fist (your medic should go either of the armors, i prefer the electro armor vs infest since im the healer). Your other 3 guys just need to be competent at aiming and conserving ammo and not killing your allies/running off rambo. Strategy of the levels is basically the same on hard as insane, just in insane you need stronger team work/formation so you don't get picked off my super fast rape alien dudes.
As far as chainsaws/hacking doors, a I can generally hack a full health door faster than it can be chainsaw'd down (as Vegas since the puzzles are easier given his tech skill), but those sorts of puzzles are something I'm just ridiculously good at. As people get used to doing them regularly, I think that will be the case.
I personally like the medic's playstyle best, and find that at insane level it works out best if I go Faith with Assault Rifle and Medic gun with electro-armor. Having really strong team mates and a good protocol for who covers what direction and when to change off (for reloads, etc) makes this very viable. Having the extra gun makes not getting overrun much much easier, and you can also toss a team-mate a gun in a pinch. It ultimately comes down to your team comp and what works best for you.
Hard is quite hard. Haven't tried it on insane yet. Was wondering what the consensus is on the best auxiliary item. My group usually carry a mixture of electro shield (for parasite clearing), rockets (clears stuff fast) and ice bombs(great for the tractor aliens).
Hard is pretty easy with basic formation/team movement. After the first play-through of hard your team should be clearing the levels with minimal problems.
also, damage amp + 4x PDW own doors so fast, you can kill any door in under 3 seconds with everyone firing at it. We are using it for speed runs although we haven't used adrenaline yet, will probably do that to make speed runs easier.

L4D2 is an absolutely awesome game and definitely well worth the money. Versus mode is against human opponents so there's always a challenge and the skill cap is surprisingly high. I often play online but the best experience is when we manage 8 guys together on LAN.

After the HUGE Tesla Cannon nerf, I have been obsessed with the Vindicator and the Pump-action. These things are beast when covering the rear.
I've reached lvl27 crimson and I have to say Jaeger is definitely the best character. Vindicator, Assault rifle + Flame/Proxy mines. The Vindicator in his hands oneshots multiple swarms even on Insane and his explosive bonus means the 10 grenades and the mines provide ridiculous firepower when you need it. He's so powerful you can solo large sections of the game without too much trouble.
I found out something else about speed runs that makes them sadly quite a bit easier. If you do them on Hard instead of Normal you get a slight speed bonus. You get a further speed bonus on insane but of course the increased difficulty makes it not viable.
Just take Jaeger, Faith, Wildcat and Vegas. 4*Adrenaline if you want it even easier.
Played this game with some friends when it first came out for a couple days and it's really fun. I can't wait until some awesome maps and mods are released for it.
I've been playing a lot. Beat Insane without too much trouble (had an amazing bunch from a pub..quite weird). I found out that I'm an amazing Faith as well. I haven't found a group I can get together all at once though. You need a really coordinated team for speed runs. Someone help me
Joining these official groups are almost pointless, because there are too many players, basically you can join any game and find someone from that group and that doesn't really give you anything.
Creating own group with people aknowledging the idea could be worth it. Usually it's just like an info chan for a close (not closed ) community.
And I'm gonna brag a bit, everyone is saying how hard "Hard" is and insane needs medics, my friend even said it has to be done slowly clearing things out.
We did all the insane levels with 3 people and no medics. Only level where we needed a 4th person was 3rd Daemia Bridge Station and it was a speedrun! \m/ 8)
On July 26 2010 22:25 tyr wrote: "hard" isn't hard. I dunno why people think it is. Insane without medic is pretty nice though.
Cos it's a steep learning curve. If you're so bad you can't hit the mobs in time then you get raped. Once you're competent enough to shoot everything that attempts to get near you it doesn't really matter how hard the mobs hit since they're dead before they reach you anyway.

Medics are handy for insane speed runs, mostly because Bastille has a bonus to adrenaline length. And being able to heal helps. But for speed runs you NEED 4 people on some levels.
RA, you gotta give me some tips, 'cuz I'm having the hardest time with Insane. I only just got to the sewers (second to last level i think) after playing like 3hrs straight.
I typically play medic, with the semi-auto sniper rifle, healing beacon, and typically adrenaline. My teammates will typically have a sentry, flamethrower, tech rifle, sp rifle, ammo, and shotgun.
The best loadout for speed runs is (I went through last night on Insane with this): Bastille, Flamethrower, Medic Gun, Adrenaline Jaeger, Flamethrower, Chainsaw, Hornet Barage Vegas, Tesla Coil, Chainsaw, Adrenaline Wildcat, Tesla, Chainsaw (Turret on Mission 2), Adrenaline
[edit] Normally I'm Faith because she's faster, but Bastille is a bit tougher which really helps on Insane. If playing Easy/Normal/Hard or Insane-while-not-speed-running Faith is the better choice.
speed runs are actually really easy, but particularly i like going
Medic - standard rifle (the one with 5 frags) heal gun adrenaline Officer - vindicator, flame thrower tesla coils Tech - PDW, flame thrower hand welder Special Weapons - minigun, or shotgun, Flame thrower, and tesla coils.
ADR during hacks, tesla coil key choke points, start everything on fire and run like hell.
Haven't made it through on insane yet (and not sure when I will now that SC2 is out...) but just wondering, why mass chainsaws? So you can run and kill? Or to tear down doors/rocks?
Chainsaws will 1-hit bugs, parasites, shooters, and flies. Tesla+Chainsaw can take down a shield or turret in about 3 seconds, and 3 people with chainsaws is faster than hacking a door. You also never have to slow down for a reload animation and you don't have to worry about ammo. They also break down rocks, so you don't need to bother with the Mining Laser on Timor Station.
Is there any info as to if there are going to be new campaigns? I really like Alien Swarm, because after a long day of study, I can just kick back and shoot aliens without thinking too much ;x

The chainsaw is one of the best weapons in the hands of a good player. With a few good rolls you can solo Insane shield bugs in about 8 seconds. I don't agree that it's great for speed runs though, since you have to slow down to fire it. Except for Timor Station where you use it to break down rocks. Grenade launchers are better at destroying doors, like on landing bay for example.

You don't need 4 people for any speed run. You can do most of them with 2 and even 1 person on Cargo Elevator.
Hey i like this game and played it much during downtine till sc2 was released Its really a cool game and some friends of mine solved it on insane :-) Really funny!
I hope they will make some more campaings in near future
Just a question: What is the viability of the mining laser during the last mission? 3 people, myself and 2 other friends, had a run where 2 of us ended up with the mining laser since we ran out of ammo. When we died, my friend speculates that the reason of our death was that we had "only 1 person with any firepower at all".
Your thoughts on using the mining laser?
According to this friend, the mining laser is only super effective on 2 things: Rocks (inanimate objects), and teammates
