I have so much fun with this game. There are some CPMA features missing, but honestly, when I'm in game, just playing, wow, it's so much better than q3 that I don't care. It just flows better... the new weapon balance is my favorite part. It's just spot on.
I can't speak to the european servers, the american ones are pretty good.
I do agree the limited number of new maps really blows :/. There are some new ones coming soon though, some people got banned for telling about them so that pretty much confirms it lol
actually, they're going to release a big update, with several "new" maps, or at least, good old q3 maps like hub, phrantic or overkill, and real new maps. BUT all those features, and the ability to spawn private servers will require a premium account, with a monthly fee
i liked RA3 better than CA, for the simple reason of being able to play 1on1s and 2on2s on specially designed maps with multiple arenas. 1on1 was just so much fun... i never played anything like 4on4 at all, tbh. 1on1 was just the best there was in RA3, but now i'm forced to play shitty teamgames
Yeah, it's true QL is really bad for team games... all pub servers. Nothing more infuriating than a teamwork based game in a pub.

Really? I haven't heard anything about charging for maps, just the private servers.
I recently started to play this, used to play some Quake 3 when I was a youngster and now I've started on this again. a bit mad though that the railgun is so weak now.
account: elation region: europe skill: LOOOW! but it will probably improve greatly to maybe mid-/low+ over the next coming days gametype: Duel or FFA
Quake Live id: CP_Stratos region: Czech Republic skill level: low or low-middle preferred gametype: tdm, ctf, ca, duel, maybe ffa just for fun once a week
The Holy Shit series are pretty good btw. Haven't seen them listed here. It shows exactly what I love about Quake - even on the lower levels you can get such insane frags that it's a delight watching them. How often does such a frag occur in let's say CS - a frag you can watch 50 times and love it still? Perhaps a few wallbangs and GeT_RiGhT's USP hs. And I'm saying that as a player with 10yrs of CS history.
But in Quake it's in every game and you just can't get enough. These frags are also the reason I don't mind losing in the game at all, because I still enjoy it. Unlike in SC where I mostly become frustrated and have to take a break.
Wow. I go 11-0 against the Crash thing for the tutorial, then it goes into super hard hack mode and almost instantly kills me every time and I can't do shit so it 15-0's me.
I wish there would be more Defrag Maps for this Game... Well there are some ported Maps from Q3 but most are Impossible to Solve without Cheating Physics :/
Quake Live id: tRUMR region: EU - Iceland skill level: Baddie (got decent aim just no quake skills :D) preferred gametype: duel and ca to fool around
watching some commentated matches might be good to spark some interest
I'd recommend scrolling down fast on that page though to kind of relive the tournament since people don't respect spoilers in quake it seems (the last two big tourneys were during weekday mornings for the most part :/ and not getting spoiled (from other vod names) while watching is quite the feat.)
Anyways below are vods from dreamhack, not the latest tourney, but it's only like a month or two old. Vods feature some top notch commentary (well most of them, not sure if they all have it.)

Yes the bot has the tendency to do that.
Just jump into playing though, start out with ca or ctf I'd suggest, pretty easy going.
It'll hurt for a while but when you manage to actually fight it feels very satisfying, and then frustrating agains when you get wrecked at the next corner . Kind of like sc. as opposed to playing the easy computer 2v1 aka most recent fps games at least in the pub environment.

The computer is just as bad as the computer in StarCraft. Everyone decent doesn't get killed once by the "super hard hack mode" bot.
does your character affect anything in game besides apearance? like speed health or hitboxes.
also are there headshots?
1. No. And on the topic of appearance, you want to type cg_forceenemymodel "keel/bright" in the console (can enable it in the options.) This is perfectly fine and legal as well.
