If justin plays more than one team in a tournament I don't think he can lose, people might start to figure out his wolverine/storm/akuma team, or his shehulk/ammy/tron, but when he whips out both or 3 different teams, theres no time to adjust.

Do you guys think anyone can stop Justin now? I know there must be some candidates for it, I just wanna know who.

In like a First to 15, I don't think anyone can beat Justin right now. I think there are several people who have a chance to win a BO3, given that other players are using teams with level 3 darkphoenix/sentinel.

Final Round is this weekend, so we should know on Sunday whether anyone can take him down a notch yet.

I doubt anyone we've seen on the WNF streams can do anything, because he still hasn't touched the loser bracket over there. Hopefully Dnyc doesn't get worn down by a team tourney and drop out at FR, I would've loved to see him play a straight set (though I think it actually helped him to have other matches between him & justin playing at Winter Brawl).

I'm really just looking forward to seeing some players that I wouldn't expect to be on point this weekend. I think Ryry has as good a chance as anyone in the US that I know of, but I'm hoping someone random, like one of the Florida marvel players or something, shows up and is an absolute monster.

I'd love to see a big classic mvc2 player like sanford, yipes, desmond, etc tear it up but I don't think many mvc2 players have really put in the work to get that good yet.

Personally, I'm hoping to see people like Zucco, the brawl player that took 2nd at one of the NY tourneys spooky streamed. I think he would have even won the tourney he took 2nd in, but he got iced by a pretty large gap between winner's finals and grand finals, and I think Chris G smashed him because Chris G had been playing nonstop up through the loser bracket.

So hyped for this weekend!

Random matchup stuff Ive been finding: you should absolutely 100% always pushblock spidey swing from taskmaster. If you don't, his followups are not just overheads, but also crossups on certain chars (storm being one of them) if he started the spidey swing close enough to you. Obnoxious to block =(

Final round will be cool since like, east coast players really do play some different characters and it'll be nice to see the mix. Socal's got too many wolvies trons and ammy's.

I mean if I were a betting man I'd have to put money on Wong just because I do think he has an over 50% chance to win, but he's never going to have 100% just due to stuff like the fact its BO3 with level 3 xfactor. He's smart enough to handle it, its just a matter of how many randoms he's going to run in to.

Outside of that, I do think Ryry and Josh Wong and a few other east coast players should compete for other top 8 positions, along with maybe marn. Not sure how Mike Ross will do since I don't think he's even top 5 in socal, will be interesting to see how the 2nd tier of socal stacks up against all of east coast.

he hits like a brick too. like day 2 combos do upwards of 600k with just 1 meter. airthrow leads into into his arrow super, he can switch around between rushing down and laming it out. solid character

man in sku atm T_T i wanna see how to DHC into aerial supers. while playing a random online, he did DHC'd into hard drive somehow. i guess TK the motion?

i still like ryry out of any american player to have the best chance at giving justin a run for his money.

Justin Wong is just too clutch. The thing about him is, he seems to figure out a style very very quickly. Other players rarely seem to adapt. For example, Ryry has a very good gameplan out of the gates. He's a great player but if you watch him play, when he's behind, he just does what he's always been doing and hopefully it works out. This really gets illustrated in his games against Wong because Wong took awhile to figure him out but afterwards, Ryry just never changed it back.

If someone has a sent/phoenix team and wong isn't able to snap out phoenix before 5 bars thats like, the only time i've seen him really get bugged, it happened against clockwork, happened against dnyc, thats pretty much the main situation i'd ever think wong would be in real trouble, but he's sick good at snapping out phoenix

I think early on he was having trouble but he seems to be confident against Dark Phoenix now. Keep in mind, if Dark Phoenix activates, you lose FIVE meters. That's quite a blow to the team as you're looking to bank on the equiv of five meters to even out and I think Wong realizes that. You'll notice he makes lot more risky plays because he knows the punishment isn't too big when the other team won't burn meter (Which is a mistake IMO on the other team's end)

yeah but if you've watched people who play darkphoenix right, like clockwork has been, he just sets the high trap so that it hits when the next person tags in, then teleports behind for the crossup, then unleashes the BNB air combo that generates enough super meter to do the firebird super, and in level 3 xfactor that 1hkos EVERYONE. Then he does it again, set the air trap, teleport, bnb, its pretty dirty how stupid good that is right now.

That's level 3 Xfactor AND against people who aren't Justin Wong. My point is Wong mostly figured out how to play against the generic D. Phoenix play lately.

wouldn't the best way out of that be to activate an air-hyper combo that has inviincibility on startup then DHC if possible into a full screen? not only wasting 4-5 seconds of x factor but potentially catching pheonix if she got greedy and input teleport.

I dunno, I think Marn himself has NO confidence against justin, and by the looks of it he hasn't even been playing in much since WNF #1. Tokido could be a dark horse due to execution but does he have the marvel mindset after just a month? I'm just finding it hard to find someone who I'd say has a better than 25% chance of beating justin.

I don't even think Japanese players can touch even the top American players let along Justin. Their marvel experience is just too limited IMO.

Well, other than Sentinels Hard Drive I don't know of many people who can just pull out an air super with more invincibility frames than vulnerability, thats just one way to get out of that trap, but usually by the time dark phoenix is out you only have 1-2 guys left and if you have 2 meters to spend on DHC out of a hard drive assuming you have sentinel, then by all means do i, if you can pull it off then yeah i think you'd be in good shape but its very situational.

Yeah I mostly agree, but I don't sleep on top Japanese players lol, especially Tokido, who CAN play every fighter, I mean the guy top 4'd like every event at SCR last year, which was like what, Super, ST, 3rd strike, HDR, T6, GG, BB, he's just got skills overall

In the first game between Clockwork and Floe yesterday on WNF in losers bracket it was a close match down to last characters between dark phoenix and sentinel.

Clockwork dark phoenix lvl3 xfactored, and Floe had sentinel left as well. Floe predicted Clockwork's teleport and Plasma stormed... during the super animation, phoenix was looking dead (about to eat a full super) but her jab came out the frame before plasma storm could come out and sentinel died.. everyone including floe was like WTF??!?!!

the thing is, i feel like teams with dark phoenix anchor is such a crap shoot with level 3 xfactor

the team is very volatile and in tournament play, it doesn't serve too well, compared to a solidly played team that can be adaptive

if you are a better player than someone else, why take unnecessary risks and play coin-flip-ish... it's like in sc2, if you're obviously better than someone else, you play longer macro games as opposed to 1 base coin flip all ins

Yeah there are only like 8 characters. but still better to know that is an option rather than get stuck in the trap and just lose a character you don't have to.

Skrull
Sentinel
Magneto
Spider Man
Viewtiful Joe
Hsien Ko (doesn't need meter)
and a couple others i can't think of.

EDIT: also LOL at reading your quote of me and realizing a typed THC instead of DHC. >.> something else on my mind i guess.
